Myoepithelioma of the upper lip: A rare case report with a literature review of diagnostic approaches.

Myoepithelioma is an extremely rare salivary gland neoplasm with diverse histological variants. Understanding myoepithelioma's clinical, radiological, and molecular features is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management. We present a case of a 40-year-old Iranian male with a painless, firm, solitary exophytic mass on the upper lip. Surgical excision was curative, with no recurrence at 36 months. Histopathological analysis confirmed myoepithelioma with spindle and plasmacytoid cell variants. Myoepithelioma's rarity is reflected in epidemiologic studies and its features are mainly recognized

Secretory Carcinoma in a Labial Minor Salivary Gland of a Pediatric Patient.

BACKGROUND: Secretory carcinoma (SC) is a low-grade malignant salivary gland tumor that most commonly harbors an ETV6::NTRK3 fusion. Few pediatric cases have been reported, particularly in minor salivary glands. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 9-year-old girl who presented with a painless, 2 cm, sessile nodule on the upper lip one year after local trauma. Excisional biopsy revealed a well-circumscribed neoplasm composed of microcystic nests filled with eosinophilic secretions that were periodic-acid-Schiff-diastase-positive. Tumor cells showed diffuse positivity for CK7, mammaglobin, and S10

[Favre-Racouchot syndrome: case report].

The authors present a case of Favre-Racouchot syndrome (elastoidosis nodularis cystica et comedonica) in a male mason aged 65, associated with nodular-ulcerative type of basocellular skin neoplasm and seboroic keratosis of the irritative type. A special reference is given to nodular cystic elastoidosis (NCE) with concurrent numerous skin changes characteristic for chronic actinic skin lesions which were clinically evidenced. An objective examination of the patient revealed the presence of multiple follicular comedones, black in colour, the size of a pinhead, and of yellowish follicular papulas

Post-traumatic lip lesion mimicking rhabdomyomatous mesenchymal hamartoma in a pediatric patient.

We report a 7-year-old boy who presented with a nodule on the upper lip. A previous clinical history of mechanical trauma in the lesional area had been noted. After surgical excision, microscopy revealed fibrocollagenous fascicles associated with neurovascular bundles and skeletal striated muscle fibers in diffuse subepithelial distribution, suggesting rhabdomyomatous mesenchymal hamartoma. However, strict clinicopathological correlation favored a healing process with trapped striated skeletal muscle tissue. After three years of follow-up, an improvement in the aesthetic appearance of the uppe

Rhabdomyoma of the tonsillar fossa.

Extracardiac rhabdomyomas are very uncommon tumors comprising approximately 2% of the neoplasms of striated muscle origin. The adult extracardiac rhabdomyoma is generally characterized as a slowly growing, usually solitary lesion, which is nearly always found in the head and neck area of elderly persons. The most common reported head and neck subsites are the floor of the mouth, tongue, palate, lips, and cheeks. We report an unusual presentation of rhabdomyoma that should be included in the differential diagnosis of tumors presenting as a large tonsillar fossa mass. In our review of the almost

Neurilemmoma: an unusual benign tumor of the cervix.

BACKGROUND: A Neurilemmoma (also called Schwannoma) is a benign, slowly growing neoplasm of the Schwann cells which may occur in association with any nerve. Its finding in the cervix of the uterus is extremely rare. CASE: At a routine annual exam, a 47-year-old woman was found to have a tumor on the posterior lip of the cervix. The patient was completely asymptomatic. The tumor was excised using a large electrical loop (LEEP) and found to be a benign Neurilemmoma. Subsequently a CT scan of the pelvis did not reveal any other abnormalities and no further treatment was contemplated. CONCLUSION

Prosthodontic rehabilitation of patient with marginal mandibular resection using attachment supported prostheses: A clinical report.

Marginal mandibular resection to treat neoplasms leads to loss of alveolar bone and teeth at the affected side. Consequently patient suffers with poor masticatory performance and esthetic disfigurement, which we need to restore with the help of prosthodontic rehabilitation. The success of rehabilitation of these patients depends on strategic treatment planning and choice of most suitable treatment modality. In this article, case of a patient has been presented who underwent marginal mandibular resection and reported with many limiting factors like obliterated buccal and lingual sulci, attachme

[Suprahyoid pharyngotomy for surgical therapy of malignant and benign oral and hypopharyngeal tumors].

Many cases of oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal neoplasms without diffuse infiltration of the larynx or mandible cannot be treated effectively by a transoral approach. In such cases a lateral and/or median translingual pharyngotomy can permit effective surgical therapy. However, these surgical techniques require greater effort and violate uninvolved tissues, such as the lip, mandible and floor of the mouth. In contrast to this, a suprahyoid pharyngotomy can be a simple and precise approach to the oropharynx and hypopharynx, and provide the shortest distance to the pathological process. The exce

Oral verrucous Carcinoma on mandibular right alveolar region.

Verrucous carcinoma, a low-grade variant of squamous cell carcinoma, defined as a diagnostically squamous cell neoplasia involving lip, oropharyngeal, and laryngeal mucosa and named as 'Ackerman's tumour' by Ackerman in 1948. It usually occurs in the lower lip region and this is one such case in which a painful proliferative growth was evident over the right alveolar region for the period of 8 months. Radiological investigations, biopsies were performed followed by surgical excision of the lesion.

Clinical features and management of schwannoma affecting the upper and lower lips.

Head and neck schwannomas comprise 25-40% of all schwannomas, with presentation on the lips as the rarest and most surgically complicated site for perioral tumors. A systematic literature review was conducted to include 21 cases of patients with schwannoma of the upper or lower lips. The majority of patients presented with a single, painless, well-encapsulated nodule on the upper or lower lips. The nodules were consistently slow-growing, with an average 29.3 months from symptom onset to clinical presentation. Most cases were complicated by profound cosmetic disfigurement as well as dysphagia,

Comparison of the histologic risk assessment model between lower lip and oral squamous cell carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: The histologic risk assessment (HRA) grading system was proposed as a practical measure to predict clinical outcome and its effectiveness has been shown in several studies. It has been suggested that the HRA model might exhibit differences among various oral subsites. The aim of the present study was to compare this system between squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) of the lower lip (LL) and oral cavity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All primary SCCs located in the LL and oral cavity were retrieved and graded using the HRA model. Data regarding risk score (RS), perineural invasion (PNI), l

Metastatic breast cancer to bilateral mandibular ramus regions.

Metastatic carcinomas to the jaw bones are uncommon and comprise to about 1% of all malignant oral neoplasms. The purpose of this report is to present a rare case of metastatic breast carcinoma to bilateral mandibular ramus regions. The present case report is about a 40-year-old female patient with the complaints of a paresthesia in the right mandibular area of the last month duration. She was referred to our department by her oncologist with the differential diagnosis of osteonecrosis or metastasis. She had undergone modified radical mastectomy for invasive lobular carcinoma of the left breas

Reconstructing carcinoma of the lip commissure and buccal mucosa: an oncosurgical alternative approach.

PURPOSE: To describe a new technique of surgical treatment of the lip commissure or buccal mucosa carcinomas, where we use local flaps (skin, buccal mucosa) of the sliding type. METHODS: According to the current technique, the ectomy ranges horizontally and in a cuneiform shape towards the side of the buccal cavity, and in the whole thickness of the layer (skin - mucosa), where the neoplastic focus is enclosed. RESULTS: The difference in our technique consists of the following: To the vertical bi-cuneiform part of the wound a horizontal cuneiform part (with the top showing upwards) is added,
