[Organization and role of the German public health service].

The article describes the organization and role of the public health service in Germany. Health is not a federal but a state issue; sta-te health regulations are subject to state legislation. The role of the public health service may therefore differ among the federal sta-tes of Germany. In recent years there ha-ve been considerable changes in the main features of the role of the public health ser-vice. Prevention and health reporting have become top issues, as well as hygiene, control of epidemics, medical certificates, and physical and dental examinations for schoolchildren. The public healt

Development of self-care in Spanish community pharmacies.

Spain is a European country with over 47.5 million inhabitants and a public National Health System model (i.e., SNS or "Sistema Nacional de Salud") that provides universal coverage to residents and non-residents. The system is funded primarily by general taxes, and it is managed by the 17 regions that have responsibility for the provision and management of healthcare services in their respective territories. The health system recognizes self-care as an important element where individuals have an important role to play in maintaining their own health and preventing illness. In addition, there a

The Relationship Between Physician Organization and Health Care Use in Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

Publicly funded insurance programs increasingly rely on private health plans to manage care, and physicians have organized into larger groups, many of which are owned by hospitals or health care systems. We examine the relationship between physician organization and health care resource use and whether this relationship differs between traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage. We find that physician group practice is associated with less use of hospital inpatient and outpatient services, but that this relationship is attenuated for patients enrolled in Medicare Advantage. We also find that

[Management of adaptation of medical services to cultural and religious characteristics of patients].

INTRODUCTION: The relevance of this study is due to the fact that, with the growth of medical tourism and increasing migration flows, medical organizations are forced to adapt their services to the cultural and religious characteristics of patients. If staff lack cultural competence, this can lead to communication problems, decreased patient adherence to treatment, ethical conflicts, and reputational damage. OBJECTIVE: To develop a scientifically based model for managing the adaptation of medical services to the cultural and religious needs of patients, including nutritional standards, spatia

[Role of an anesthesiologist-resuscitation specialist in organ donation for transplantation].

There is an annual reduction in the number of donors worldwide. An anesthesiologist-resuscitation specialist is a key figure in the whole system of organ donation. The so-called transplantation, i.e., the organization of the whole process of interaction between a healthy care facility, a local organ donation center, and ancillary laboratory and diagnostic services is one of his/her primary roles in organ donation. The organizational, legal, and ethic issues of organ donation for transplantation are discussed from the viewpoint of an anesthesiologist-resuscitation specialist. There is a paralle

'Only systems thinking can improve family planning program in Pakistan': A descriptive qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Family Planning (FP) program in Pakistan has been struggling to achieve the desired indicators. Despite a well-timed initiation of the program in late 50s, fertility decline has been sparingly slow. As a result, rapid population growth is impeding economic development in the country. A high population growth rate, the current fertility rate, a stagnant contraceptive prevalence rate and high unmet need remain challenging targets for population policies and FP programs. To accelerate the pace of FP programs and targets concerned, it is imperative to develop and adopt a holistic appro

A taxonomy of the scope and organization of local sexually transmitted disease services for policy and practice.

Local health departments (LHDs) and their organizational partners play a critical role in controlling sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the United States. We examine variation in the differentiation, integration, and concentration (DIC) of STD services and develop a taxonomy describing the scope and organization of local STD services. LHD STD programs (n = 115) in Alabama (AL) and California (CA) responded to surveys assessing STD services available in 2014. K-means cluster analysis identified LHD groupings based on DIC variation. Discriminant analysis validated cluster solutions. Differ

Good governance in 'one health' approaches.

The authors discuss 'One Health' approaches for controlling newly recognised and re-emerging diseases of animal origin and contributions towards pandemic preparedness based on enhanced collaboration between Veterinary Services, Human Health Services and Environmental Services. Improved veterinary governance and cooperation with public health managers, social scientists, ecologists and many other stakeholders are important for reducing the risks of potential zoonoses--including foodborne diseases--at their source. Two case studies are presented to illustrate how One Health approaches can make a

Optimizing the Role of Community Pharmacists in Managing the Health of Populations: Barriers, Facilitators, and Policy Recommendations.

The shift to a value-based health care system has incentivized providers to implement strategies that improve population health outcomes while minimizing downstream costs. Given their accessibility and expanded clinical care models, community pharmacists are well positioned to join interdisciplinary care teams to advance efforts in effectively managing the health of populations. In this Viewpoints article, we discuss the expanded role of community pharmacists and potential barriers limiting the uptake of these services. We then explore strategies to integrate, leverage, and sustain these servi
