Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm is a rare and aggressive hematodermic neoplasia with frequent cutaneous involvement and leukemic dissemination. We report the case of a 76-year-old man with a 2 month history of violaceous nodules and a tumor with stony consistency, located on the head, and mandibular, cervical and supraclavicular lymphadenopathies. Multiple thoracic and abdominal adenopathies were identified on computerized tomography. Flow cytometry analysis of the skin, lymph node and bone marrow biopsies demonstrated the presence of plasmocytoid dendritic cell neoplastic precurs

Hidrocystomas are relatively rare cystic skin tumors. The precise histogenetic derivation and the cellular differentiation of these tumors has been largely debated. Usually, the mean age at diagnosis of the patients with eccrine hidrocystomas (EH) is 51.6 years, 54.0 years for females and 32.5 years for males. EH develop predominantly in females (sex ratio 1:6.5). Most patients are asymptomatic; predilection sites are the lower eyelids, nose and lateral canthus. The authors report a rare case of EH of the lower face in a 57-year-old Caucasian male patient presented with mandibular asymmetry du

INTRODUCTION: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the sixth most frequently diagnosed malignancy, typically metastasizes to the lungs (55%), abdominal lymph nodes (41%), long bones (28%), and brain. Metastasis to the oral cavity, particularly the mandible, is an exceptionally rare phenomenon occurring in <1% of cases. In this case, the patient was presented as metastatic jaw malignancy without preceding any clinical symptoms or diagnosis of the primary intrahepatic tumor. Because these metastatic neoplasms lack pathognomonic clinical or radiological distinctions, they are frequently misdiagnosed a

BACKGROUND: Metastasizing ameloblastoma is a rare, distinct entity under the World Health Organization classification. It is a unique tumor in which metastasis can occur but remains benign. Incidence is considered to be around 2% of reported cases of ameloblastoma, but it could be much lower.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old South Indian woman of Dravidian ethnicity presented in the year 2020 with swelling over the right side of the face. She had a history of recurrent ameloblastoma on the left side of the mandible, for which she underwent multiple surgeries in the past 8 years. A right hemim

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Central giant cell tumor (CGCT) of bone is an uncommon yet locally aggressive neoplasm originating from undifferentiated mesenchymal cells in bone marrow. This case report explores a rare presentation in the maxilla extending to the mandible, emphasizing the complexity of CGCT management and the need for a multidisciplinary approach.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old female presented with a progressively enlarging non-tender, firm swelling on the left maxilla and a similar mandibular swelling. Paraesthesia of the left lower lip and chin accompanied the mandibular s

BACKGROUND: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma starts in the salivary glands and accounts for 5%-10% of all salivary gland tumours. Its intraosseous occurrence is rare and only accounts for 2%-3% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas. This neoplasm often follows a long and indolent course. Also, given its ambiguous presentation and similarities to other dental pathologies, it often has a late diagnosis. In this instance, we present the case of a patient with an asymptomatic mandibular lesion, who underwent mandibular resection and reconstruction with fibula free flap.
CASE REPORT: A 32-year-old male patient

Intraosseous myofibroma is a rare tumor of benign nature, slow growth, and low morbidity. The aim of this article is to report a case of pathologic fracture associated with the incidental diagnosis of myofibroma in the mandible of an adolescent. A 15-year-old girl reported that she experienced a physical assault resulting in facial injuries 1 month previously and had since experienced severe pain, malocclusion, and chewing difficulty. The cone beam computed tomographic examination revealed multiple features suggestive of pathologic fracture associated with a hypodense lesion with lobulated lim

Cancer metastasis to the oral and maxillofacial region is uncommon, and metastasis to the mandibular condyle is considered rare. We present a case of a 56-year-old woman with a history of invasive ductal cell carcinoma of the right breast, 10 years in remission, presenting with a 6-month history of symptoms typical of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Imaging revealed an osteolytic lesion of her right TMJ and subsequent open biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. Despite the rarity of metastatic cancer to the head and neck region, it is still important for clinici

The aim of this study was to evaluate and discuss the long-term outcomes of patients with condylar osteochondroma managed through 3 different surgical techniques. Seven patients with condylar osteochondroma treated in the author's department from May 2012 to January 2019 were included in this retrospective study. Clinical evaluations (visual analogue scale for TMJ pain, jaw function, symmetry, and quality of life), maximum interincisal opening (MIO) and radiological findings were collected pre- and postoperatively. Other parameters assessed included tumour size and location; complications and

The purpose of this pictorial essay is to illustrate the radiologic appearances of diseases involving the maxilla and mandible. The high prevalence of dental disease results in inflammatory, infectious, and reactive processes that must be distinguished from more serious conditions with similar radiologic features. Because of their association with odontogenic tissues, lesions of the maxilla and mandible may have radiologic findings not seen in other bones. Furthermore, nonodontogenic cysts and tumors that occur elsewhere in the skeleton may exhibit unique radiologic characteristics when associ

Oral fibrosarcoma is a highly invasive tumour with local recurrence rates of up to 57.9% following surgical excision. The optimal surgical margins for long-term local control of oral fibrosarcoma have not been ascertained, especially when tumour invasion into the mandibular canal is present. The objective of this study was to evaluate the recurrence of mandibular fibrosarcoma in dogs following mandibulectomy procedures based on the presence or absence of mandibular canal invasion. Medical records of dogs that underwent a mandibulectomy for fibrosarcoma between January 2005 and December 2023 at

Feline oral histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an exceptionally rare malignancy with limited clinical characterization and a poor prognosis. This report describes a case of mandibular HS in a 6-year-old Ragdoll cat that achieved a favorable local control following surgical management alone. The cat presented with left mandibular swelling, and diagnostic imaging revealed a poorly demarcated mass with extensive osteolysis of the mandible. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings supported the diagnosis of a poorly differentiated malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with histiocytic differentiation.

Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) is a rare, aggressive epithelial neoplasm of the jaw first described in 1985 by Hansen and classified as an odontogenic malignant tumor in the 2005 WHO classification. To date, only 117 cases have been reported in the literature written in English. In this paper, we report the atypical presentation of a pericoronal localized tumor in the right mandibular wisdom tooth discovered during a routine radiologic examination. The patient, a 44-year-old healthy female, was referred by her general dental practitioner for examination of temporomandibular dysfunctio

BACKGROUND: Chronic mandibular hypomobility is characterized by a long-standing limitation of the mouth opening related to multiple etiologies, including elongation of the coronoid apophysis. Unlike the most frequent pathologies that cause coronoid elongation, such as hyperplasia, osteoma (OM), and osteochondroma (OC), the accessory mandibular condyle (AMC) is a rare entity. Clinical Presentation: The AMC shows a configuration similar to a normal mandibular condyle with an articular surface covered by fibrocartilage that articulates with the temporal wall of the zygomatic bone, and histologica

With this research, we aimed to evaluate the effect of condylar osteochondroma (OC) resection through an intraoral approach on the masticatory functions. Resection of condylar OC was carried out via an intraoral approach with the help of three-dimensional (3D) design, endoscope, and navigation system. The T-Scan III computerised occlusal analysis system was used to evaluate the occlusal force distribution, recorded at pre-treatment (T1) and post-treatment (T2) intervals. Records of the clinical examination of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), including maximal interincisal opening, mandibular

OBJECTIVE: To report long-term outcome in a mare that had extensive rostral mandibulectomy to remove an ameloblastoma.
STUDY DESIGN: Clinical report.
ANIMALS: A 21-year-old mare.
METHODS: An ameloblastoma, located in the rostral aspect of the mandible, was removed by complete en-bloc resection of the tumor, removing most of the mandibular symphysis.
RESULTS: The day after surgery, the remaining mandibular symphysis (<5 mm) fractured causing marked instability of the hemi-mandibles. Partial wound dehiscence occurred 5 days after surgery; however, the mare was able to eat well and the incisi
