2 strains of Entamoeba histolytica, SAW 760 and SAW 408 (non-invasive zymodeme IX and invasive zymodeme II respectively, Sargeaunt & Williams 1979) were administered intra-intestinally to 15 inbred and 3 outbred strains of mouse. The present study was designed to investigate the correlation between the spatial and temporal aspects of immune responses and genetic heterogeneity in the progression of peripheral neuropathic pain. To address this issue, we first screened four inbred mouse strains (C57BL/6J, C3H/He, DBA/2, and A/J mice) to identify high- and low-responder strains to mechanical hypersensitivity induced by partial sciatic nerve ligation (pSNL). Among these strains, the C57BL/6J strain showed the highest vulnerability to pSNL-induced mechanical hypersensitivity, whereas the C3H/HeSlc strain was most resistant.

Mechanisms underlying susceptibility to anthrax infection are unknown. Using a phylogenetically diverse panel of inbred mice and spores of Bacillus anthracis Ames, we investigated host susceptibility to pulmonary anthrax. The susceptibility of inbred strains of mice to pulmonary blastomycosis was studied to derive information relevant to host resistance and genetic background. We have investigated the specific humoral immune response and its correlation to the development of disease after experimental inoculation of B. burgdorferi in different inbred strains of mice. Dorso-ventral vaginal septa were observed in 38% of the recently weaned BALB/cJ female mice in the production colony at The Jackson Laboratory.
