Chlorpromazine may induce abnormal skin hyperpigmentation in exposed areas, described as slate-gray, purple, or blue-grayish discoloration. A 58-year-old man with schizophrenia, had been taking chlorpromazine for 5 years, and his sun-exposed skin areas exhibited a blue-grayish color. Low voltage transmission electron microscopy (LVTEM) was employed to examine biological tissues with accelerating voltages as low as 5kV. Detergent-unextractable structures of synaptic plasma membrane of rat cerebrum were observed by whole mount electron microscopy. The globular structures were identified as postsynaptic densities (PSDs) from several criteria and appeared to consist of folded strings, to which a number of other molecules might be attached. Some of the globular structures were attached with subsynaptic webs. The structures contained a number of finely striated small strips (10-20 nm wide, 60-100 nm long), parts of which were peeled off from PSD cytoskeletal base by N-lauroyl sarcosinate.

Black-and-white and colour transmission electron micrographs of three DNA viruses (infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus, bovine adenovirus type 5 and Molluscum contagiosum) are comparatively presented. The colour images have been obtained by an original method of computer-assisted analogic processing of black-and-white micrographs, using the Romanian electronic device OPTIMISCOP. A comparative analysis of the two types of images demonstrates the variety of additional information provided by the new processing technique.
