Minimally Detectable Change and Minimal Clinically Important Difference of a Decline in Sentence Intelligibility and Speaking Rate for Individuals With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the minimally detectable change (MDC) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of a decline in speech sentence intelligibility and speaking rate for individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We also examined how the MDC and MCID vary across severities of dysarthria. METHOD: One-hundred forty-seven patients with ALS and 49 healthy control subjects were selected from a larger, longitudinal study of bulbar decline in ALS, resulting in a total of 650 observations. Intelligibility and speaking rate in words per minute (WPM) …

Evaluating the clinical effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases using minimal clinically important difference: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are promising candidates for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). However, their effects in non-diabetic populations, independent of metabolic confounding, remain unclear. We evaluated the effects of GLP-1RAs on cognition, clinical outcomes, biomarkers, and safety in non-diabetic individuals with PD, AD, and mild cognitive impairment. We assessed the clinical meaningfulness of these effects using minimal clinically important difference thresholds. Relevant studies were retrieved from PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from …

Minimally Clinically Important Difference of the Clinical Assessment Scale in Autoimmune Encephalitis.

The Clinical Assessment Scale in Autoimmune Encephalitis (CASE) tracks disease severity in autoimmune encephalitis (AE), but no threshold for significant change exists. We aimed to determine the minimally clinically important difference (MCID) for CASE. Using our AE cohort, receiver operating characteristic analyses were anchored to ≥ 1-point improvement in mRS over 3-month intervals. Among 222 AE patients (65 NMDAR, 49 LGI1, and 108 seronegative AE), a 30% CASE reduction showed good discriminatory performance for mRS improvement in the first 6 months, particularly in NMDAR and seronegative su

Assessment of the minimal clinically important difference for the Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index in patients with arthralgia at risk for progression to rheumatoid arthritis.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with arthralgia at-risk for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) experience considerable functional disability, though generally less than at RA diagnosis. Secondary prevention trials have shown that treatment can improve disability in patients with arthralgia. However, interpreting the clinical relevancy of the improvements in Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ-DI) is hampered by the lack of a defined minimal clinically important difference (MCID) in this disease stage. Results from other disciplines than rheumatology suggested that the MCID depends on absolute …
