Improving the Integration between Palliative Radiotherapy and Supportive Care: A Narrative Review.

Palliative radiotherapy (PRT) is known to be effective in relieving cancer related symptoms. However, many studies and clinical practice show several barriers hindering its use and worsening the quality of patient support during PRT. Various solutions were proposed to overcome these barriers: training on PRT for supportive and palliative care specialists and training on palliative care for radiation oncologists, and introduction of pathways and organizational models specifically dedicated to PRT. Evidence on innovative organizational models and mutual training experiences is few and sparse. Th

Covering traumatic news stories: Factors associated with post-traumatic stress disorder among journalists.

The current study examined personal and environmental factors that placed 167 U.S. journalists from diverse media organizations at risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after covering work-related traumatic stories. These factors included exposure to traumatic stressors in their personal lives, work-related traumatic stressors, and general organizational stressors. Further, personality attributes and coping styles associated with risk and resiliency were examined. Regression analyses identified avoidant emotional coping, higher levels of perceived organizational stressors, intensity o

The Best Practice Spotlight Organization® Model: An integrated guideline implementation methodology.

Sustained integration of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines into routine practice and education remains inconsistent across health systems. While implementation science offers robust theoretical explanations of determinants of success, published reports often under-specify how theory is operationalized through governance, knowledge mobilization, and measurement systems that support accountability and learning over time. This limits interpretability, replication, and cumulative learning across contexts. This paper presents the Best Practice Spotlight Organization® (BPSO®) Model, an int

Leveraging a Large Language Model in Competency Development: Advancing Standardization and Optimizing Operational Efficiency.

NPDPs leverage AI to optimize practice efficiency. NPDPs lack the resources and tools to quickly standardize and align orientation competencies for scalability across hospitals and health systems. Partnering with the advanced technology team, a large language model was developed. Postimplementation metrics demonstrated substantial efficiency gains. The workgroup achieved a 76% reduction in manual standardization efforts. NPDPs leverage a large language model to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and enhance operational efficiency.

Does real estate bubble affect corporate innovation? Evidence from China.

With the rapid increase of downward pressure on China's economy, the stability of the property market, as an important part of the economic transformation process, also has a far-reaching impact on enterprises' R&D investment. We select the data of Chinese large and medium-sized industrial enterprises from 1998 to 2015 as our research sample and propose a new combination measurement model based on closeness degree to measure the real estate bubble level in China accurately. The structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) theory is utilized to empirically test the dynamic relationship between the r

Identifying single points of failure in your organisation.

Single points of failure may spell disaster for businesses that have not adequately identified and mitigated these critical risks. A single point of failure audit will identify the single points of failure in all functional areas that may negatively impact organisational processes and process flows. This paper provides a holistic approach to constructing a successful single point of failure audit and identifies the systems that are frequently the sources of single points of failure. It also examines the internal and external risks that may spawn single points of failure and provides various mi

Taking the business continuity programme to a corporate leadership role.

The paper discusses a process to raise the awareness and value of your continuity programme to higher levels by leveraging existing data. It gives examples of how to utilise the structure of the Business Impact Analysis tool to develop an enterprise level of information capture, and then utilise that data to generate an enterprise level 'group think' which results in incorporation of business continuity as a part of the business-as-usual model.

Harnessing Potential: A Systematic Investigation of How and Why Learning Happens in a Health System.

BACKGROUND: The ability to learn is central to innovation and performance across industries, and it is the hallmark feature of the rapidly growing movement toward Learning Health Systems. While learning drivers-such as experimentation, risk-taking, participative decision-making, dialogue, and interaction with the external environment-are well defined, they have received little attention in healthcare contexts. AIM: This study explored the nature of organizational learning within Trillium Health Partners (THP), one of Canada's largest community-based teaching hospital systems. METHODS: Formal

Factors Associated with Working During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Intent to Stay at Current Nursing Position.

The pandemic exacerbated job stress and burnout among nurses, increasing turnover and intentions to leave, in a workforce struggling with severe shortages. Shortages and turnover are associated with decreased quality of care, poor nurse health, and increased costs. This article reports the findings of a study that sought to identify characteristics of the job, work environment, and psychosocial health outcomes that may predict nurses' intent to stay at their current nursing position within the next year. Utilizing a cross-sectional design, we electronically surveyed working nurses (n = 629) du

Organizational Justice and Health: A Survey in Hospital Workers.

In complex systems such as hospitals, work organization can influence the level of occupational stress and, consequently, the physical and mental health of workers. Hospital healthcare workers were asked to complete a questionnaire during their regular occupational health examination, in order to assess the perceived level of organizational justice, and to verify whether it was associated with occupational stress, mental health, and absenteeism. The questionnaire included the Colquitt Organizational Justice (OJ) Scale, the Karasek/Theorell demand-control-support (DCS) questionnaire for occupat

How organizational commitment shapes IPC execution through job satisfaction among infection prevention and control professionals.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections underscore the critical role of infection prevention and control (IPC), a concern sharpened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although organizational commitment and job satisfaction are recognized drivers of IPC compliance, their combined association with IPC execution and the mechanism linking them remain insufficiently understood. This study quantitatively examined the association between organizational commitment and IPC self-reported execution (SR-execution), with job satisfaction as a mediator. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 394

Tyrannical leadership predicts psychotropic use over time: a longitudinal study of healthcare workers in Chile.

INTRODUCTION: Healthcare workers are exposed to intense organizational pressures and demanding interpersonal dynamics that may undermine psychological wellbeing. Tyrannical leadership-characterized by hostile, controlling, and humiliating supervisory behaviors-represents a particularly harmful organizational stressor in healthcare settings. Under such conditions, psychotropic medication may be used as a coping response to sustained psychological strain. This study examined whether exposure to tyrannical leadership predicts subsequent psychotropic drug use among healthcare workers. METHODS: A

Interdisciplinary management of epidermolysis bullosa in the public setting: the Netherlands as a model of care.

An interdisciplinary team approach, in which the treatment can be individualized to each patient and his or her family and tailored to the severity of the disease, is most beneficial to the patient with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In the Netherlands, the Center for Blistering Diseases in Groningen provides a large interdisciplinary EB team that performs at a high level to provide the best EB-patient care for both children and adults. The possibility of rapid diagnosis, the efficient carrousel-like clinics, and the continuity in care are typical elements of the Dutch method of delivering interd

Letrozole treatment of pubertal female mice results in activational effects on reproduction, metabolism and the gut microbiome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in reproductive-aged women that is comprised of two out of the following three features: hyperandrogenism, oligo- or amenorrhea, or polycystic ovaries. In addition to infertility, many women with PCOS have metabolic dysregulation that increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Changes in the gut microbiome are associated with PCOS and gut microbes may be involved in the pathology of this disorder. Since PCOS often manifests in the early reproductive years, puberty is cons
