Psychological Factors Applicable to App Development for Overcoming Problematic Smartphone Use: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach.

OBJECTIVE: As the importance of smartphones grows, so too do the negative side effects, such as mental health issues caused by problematic smartphone use. Therefore, to lay the foundation for developing apps that can address problematic smartphone use, we must clearly identify the psychological factors that influence it. To this end, we attempted to identify the psychological factors that influence problematic smartphone use using structural equation modeling. METHODS: We used data from 691 smartphone users (aged 20s to 50s) collected via an online survey from December 8, 2019, through Januar

From Infection to Anxiety: A Sequential Model Linking Latent Toxoplasmosis to Psychological Distress via Health and Stress.

Identifying the drivers of chronic stress is crucial for understanding its impact on mental health. Latent toxoplasmosis, a widespread parasitic infection, has been linked to various psychological changes. The Stress-Coping Hypothesis proposes that at least some of these changes are consequences of chronic stress arising from the infection's negative impact on physical health, rather than direct parasitic manipulation. To test this mediational pathway, we surveyed 1768 individuals previously tested for toxoplasmosis or borreliosis, using the Perceived Stress Scale and the State-Trait Anxiety I

Development and validation of a predictive model for weight loss psychological distress in obese patients: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Obese patients are more likely to experience psychological distress symptoms, such as low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. Approximately 18-55% of obese patients will encounter problems such as abdominal distension, purple skin lines and facial acne due to changes in their body shape and appearance. Establishing a predictive model for psychological distress in obese patients during the weight loss process, early identification of high-risk groups, and the adoption of proactive intervention measures can help reduce the incidence of psychological distress. AIMS: Explore the risk

Psychological detachment in Chinese higher education: a multitheoretical model of academic stress, cultural pressure, and coping resources.

Psychological detachment-the ability to mentally disengage from academic demands during non-study time-remains elusive for Chinese university students, intensified by cultural norms that equate disengagement with weakness and by institutional systems reinforcing constant connectivity. This study integrates the Stressor-Strain-Outcome Model, Conservation of Resources Theory, and Cognitive Appraisal Theory to examine how academic perfectionism, social comparison anxiety, digital burnout, and filial piety stress affect detachment. The mediating roles of resilience, self-esteem, and perceived soci

Research on a machine learning-based adaptive and efficient screening model for psychological symptoms of community correctional prisoners.

Community correction institutions in China frequently employ the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and the health survey brief (SF-12) as primary tools for psychological assessment of community correctional prisoners. However, in practical application, the SCL-90 Checklist faces issues such as complex item numbers, overall low cultural level of the subjects, and insufficient professional level of the administrators. The SF-12 health survey brief, as a preliminary screening tool, although only has 12 questions, to some extent simplifies the evaluation process and improves work efficiency, it is pro

Psychological distress, wellbeing and resilience: modelling adolescent mental health profiles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There has been concern about adolescent mental health during the pandemic. The current study examined adolescent mental health during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. Using indicator of psychological distress, wellbeing and resilience, latent profile analysis was used to identify homogeneous mental health groups among young people aged 13-24 (N = 1971). Multinomial logistic regression was then used to examine which sociodemographic and psychosocial variables predicted latent class membership. Four classes were found. The largest class (Class 1, 37.2%) was characterised by

Examining Individual Differences in Wellbeing, Anxiety and Depression in Psoriasis Using a Clinically Modified Buddhist Psychological Model.

Psoriasis patients can experience a range of psychosocial difficulties, which can lead to issues with wellbeing, anxiety and depression. Mindfulness-based interventions have positive impacts on these outcomes; however, there is a need to identify the mechanisms of action of such interventions. This study attempts to do so by examining individual differences in psoriasis patients' wellbeing, anxiety and depression using a clinically modified Buddhist psychological model (CBPM). Psoriasis patients (N = 285) and (N = 209) completed measures of each CBPM component at time 1 and 2. SEM analyses fou

Multi-Faceted Constructs in Abnormal Psychology: Implications of the Bifactor S - 1 Model for Individual Clinical Assessment.

Burns et al. (this issue) have shown that the application of the symmetrical bifactor model to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms leads to anomalous and inconsistent results across different rater groups. In contrast to the symmetrical bifactor model, applications of the bifactor S-1 model showed consistent and theoretically well-founded results. The implications of the bifactor S-1 model for individual clinical assessment are discussed. It is shown that individual factor scores of the bifactor S-1 model reveal important information

[An integrative research model for child and adolescent psychiatry bringing together biological, psychological and social research approaches].

After some general remarks on the current situation of child and adolescent psychiatric research in Germany, a research concept is presented which in the course of 30 years of testing and further development has proven to be successful both in the inauguration of scientific projects, as well as in the qualification of trainees and co-workers. The nucleus of this concept is a research unit that is to a large extent independent of the daily health care routine. Some of the unit staff members are natural scientists holding permanent positions, complemented by a secondary labour force of young doc
