An observation of multiple halo nevi is presented with clinico-morphological analysis. A spontaneous regression of halo nevi is shown to be performed with morphological manifestations of the antitumour immune response. This implies their differential diagnosis with typical nevocellular nevus and malignant melanoma. The diagnostic criteria are discussed.

In order to study the spontaneous regression of the colon cancers of WF Osaka strain rats, laparotomies were carried on 701 rats in sequence at the age of four months. Among them, 260 cases were found having colon cancers at the laparotomy. 107 out of them showed spontaneous regression of the colon cancer in the ascending colon. Complete spontaneous regression of high-grade malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is extremely unusual. In this report the authors describe a complete spontaneous remission after surgical excisional biopsy of a small noncleaved cell malignant lymphoma (non-Burkitt's lymphoblastic lymphoma) of the tonsil in a 12-year-old boy. The diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistologic and immunoglobulin gene analysis. Similar studies were performed on the cervical lymph node excised 2 weeks later when spontaneous remission had occurred. The patient has remained in good health for over 3 years.

A 65-year-old man experiencing chest oppression was admitted to our hospital. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography (CT) showed a 71×52-mm cystic mass with an enhanced wall in the thymus. PURPOSE: To describe a clinical case of an orbital paraganglioma that displayed regression after biopsy alone.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 75-year-old female was examined for a right orbital tumor suspected to be metastatic breast carcinoma. An orbital biopsy was performed with significant hemorrhage encountered requiring extensive cautery. There was apparent clinical regression of the tumor with no signs of proptosis or eye movement restriction two years after this patient's biopsy. Histology was consistent with paraganglioma (glomus tumor).

PROBLEM: Local adaptive cervical regulatory T cells (Tregs) are the most likely direct suppressors of the immune eradication of cervical intraepithelial lesion (CIN). PD-1 expression on T cells induces Tregs. No studies have quantitatively analyzed the Tregs and PD-1+ cells residing in CIN lesions.

Spontaneous remission/regression of cancer is defined as partial or complete disappearance of malignant disease temporarily or permanently in the absence of medical treatment. This event is named as spontaneous regression for solid tumors and spontaneous remission for leukemia. The authors report the case of a girl aged 4 years and 3 months, who presented with mediastinal mass and leukemic findings in the bone marrow both of which reappeared after spontaneous regression and remission, respectively.

Thirteen out of 25 cystic lesions of the infantile skull, radiographically classified as epidermoids or dermoids of the calvarian bones, disappeared spontaneously during early childhood. We report a case of nodular fasciitis of the breast in a 48-year-old woman who presented with a tender rapidly growing right breast lump. Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) of the solid mass was performed. Cytology was reported as atypical spindle cell neoplasm and the patient was referred to a breast surgeon at a tertiary institution for a definitive diagnosis and further management. Follow-up ultrasound showed partial regression and MRI, mammogram after 2-3 weeks confirmed spontaneous and total resolution of the lesion. A 60-year-old lady presented with intermittent headaches. Examination revealed striking marked unilateral tongue atrophy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a cystic lesion in the hypoglossal canal and a provisional diagnosis of cystic hypoglossal schwannoma made. A 28-year-old woman who complained of mild abdominal pain was found to have a large liver tumor. Angiography and needle biopsy established the diagnosis of hepatocellular adenoma. The tumor was felt to be unresectable because of its size, and no treatment was given other than withdrawal of oral contraceptives. Subsequent hepatic scintiscans documented compete resolution of the tumor over a 12-month period.
