Pretibial pruritic papular dermatitis: A distinctive cutaneous manifestation in response to chronic rubbing.

We describe the clinico-pathologic features of 44 patients with a peculiar pretibial pruritic papular dermatitis (PPPD). Clinically, PPPD co … rmis. The clinical picture of PPPD closely resembled that of lichen simplex chronicus/circumscribed neurodermatitis or lichen amyloidosus. Histologically, the absence of uneven psoriasiform epidermal hyperplasia, marked compact orthokeratosis, hypergranulosis, and coarse bundles of collagen arranged in vertical streaks in the papillary dermis distinguished PPPD f …

Psychopathology Associated with Chronic Pruritus: A Systematic Review.

There are no previous studies of the psychopathology associated with different aetiologies of chronic pruritus. A systematic review was performed of cohort and case-control studies comparing healthy controls with patients with chronic pruritus related to primary dermatoses, systemic diseases, psychogenic pruritus, idiopathic pruritus, prurigo nodularis and/or lichen simplex chronicus. The review was registered in PROSPERO and performed according to the PRISMA statement, which allowed the inclusion of 26 studies. The quality of eligible studies was assessed using the modified Newcastle-Ottawa S

Epidemiology of Prurigo Nodularis compared with Psoriasis in Germany: A Claims Database Analysis.

Prurigo nodularis is an itchy skin disease with unknown epidemiology. This study aimed to describe the epidemiology of prurigo nodularis compared with that of psoriasis. The German sickness fund claims database, with 2,783,175 continuously insured patients, included 1,720 patients diagnosed with prurigo nodularis and 51,390 with psoriasis. Patients with prurigo nodularis were averagely 8 years older than psoriasis patients and more often were women (p < 0.001). Annual incidence was a constant 0.02% in prurigo nodularis, and decreased steadily from 0.53 to 0.42% in psoriasis; cumulative inciden

Grape Cells (Multinucleated Keratinocytes) in Noninfectious Dermatoses: Case Series and Review of the Literature.

Multinucleated keratinocytes (also known as multinucleated epidermal giant cells) are a frequently overlooked histological finding in noninfectious inflammatory dermatoses. They are sometimes found in conditions characterized by chronic rubbing and pruritus, such as lichen simplex chronicus or prurigo nodularis, and may be a helpful clue in making the clinical diagnosis. This finding must be differentiated from other conditions characterized by multinucleated keratinocytes on histopathology, specifically herpes simplex, varicella zoster, or measles viral infections. The authors present a case

[Arthrogenic ear canal tumor].

We report our findings in two female patients (aged 56 and 64 years) who complained about slight hearing loss that varied during jaw movemen … a in the other.
