Adams-Oliver syndrome (AOS) (MIM 100300) was first described in 1945 as a condition of terminal transverse limb defects and aplasia cutis congenita. PURPOSE: To assess the reproducibility of determining whether an eye has developed optic disk deterioration by the Optic Disc Reading Center (ODRC) in the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS).
DESIGN: Test-retest reproducibility study.

A 43-year-old woman presented with painful visual loss and optic disk edema in the right eye (OD) diagnosed as optic neuritis. Initial non-gadolinium-enhanced fat suppressed cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was normal. Three months later, the disk edema persisted and a gadolinium-enhanced MRI scan of the brain and orbits with fat suppression showed enhancement of the optic nerve OD, most consistent with an optic nerve sheath meningioma. The diagnostic difference between optic neuritis and optic nerve sheath meningioma is discussed.

A Heidelberg retina tomograph II was used to examine 35 (55 eyes) patients with intracranial hypertension caused by brain tumors. The suggested quantitative method for the assessment of the microcirculation in the anterior segment of the optic disk in the patients with primary open-angle glaucoma has revealed reduced local and total fluorescence of the optic disk vascular net, this reduction augmenting with the disease progress and indicating an ischemic type of the optic disk impairment. Rationale for the use of the suggested method for the diagnosis of open-angle glaucoma is given.
