Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare process in which there is an inflammation of the mesenteric adipose tissue due to unknown causes and mechanisms. It evolves with abdominal pain and/or mass, among other symptoms, generally with a chronic and bening course. The concomitant tests are generally non-specific, the diagnosis being anatompathological. We present the case of an old woman who died hours after starting an episode of abdominal pain. The autopsy showed the presence of mesenteric panniculitis. The sudden onset of the clinical signs, without other justifying cause than the panniculitis itse

Mesenteric panniculitis is an aseptic inflammation of mesenteric fat. Before the age of ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT), mesenteric panniculitis was rarely diagnosed, but today the disorder is more commonly encountered, often as an incidental imaging finding. Its exact cause remains unknown. This review illustrates the characteristic US and CT features of mesenteric panniculitis and discusses its differential diagnosis.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a relatively common condition encountered on cross-sectional imaging and is mostly asymptomatic. We present one such case where an underlying malignancy was brought to forefront due to associated mesenteric panniculitis presenting as acute abdomen.

A 38-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with a history of thoracic pain and anorexia for 1 week. Thoracic CT scan showed bilateral pleural effusion, a thoracentesis was performed revealing a transudate liquid with polymorphonuclears and predominance of eosinophils. After admission, the patient developed abdominal pain and the abdominal CT scan showed densification of the mesenteric fat characteristic of mesenteric panniculitis (MP). The patient went through investigation for secondary causes of panniculitis including infection, neoplasia and autoimmune diseases, and no abnorm

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a rare chronic disease characterized by inflammation and subsequently fibrosis of adipose tissue of the omentum. Only recently it has been associated with IgG4-related disease. Cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) is a high-molecular mass glycoprotein, traditionally associated with ovarian cancer, although it can be elevated in other conditions. Herein we describe a case of a 56-year-old man with IgG4 related mesenteric panniculitis associated with very high levels of CA-125 at the onset of disease. The CA-125 levels corresponded to clinical disease activity and improved

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a benign fibroinflammatory process characterized by the presence of fat necrosis, chronic inflammation and fibrosis in the mesentery. Although various causal factors, such as malignancy, chronic inflammatory conditions and autoimmune processes, have been identified, the precise etiology remains unknown. We herein report a rare case of MP accompanying Sjögren's syndrome in which a mass lesion and intestinal stenosis were observed simultaneously. This condition led to ileus, which was effectively treated using prednisolone.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon benign inflammatory condition of unknown etiology that involves the adipose tissue of the mesentery and for which an extremely varied terminology has been used, causing considerable confusion. It can be evaluated as a single disease with two pathological subgroups: Mesenteric Panniculitis (MP), representing the very large major subgroup where inflammation and fat necrosis predominate and Retractile Mesenteritis (RM), much rarely found, where fibrosis and retraction predominate. In histo-pathological terms the preferred terminology is sclerosing mesenterit

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare idiopathic inflammatory disorder that can lead to sclerosis. We describe a patient with mesenteric panniculitis presenting with abdominal symptoms and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. The symptoms remitted after splenectomy and gradual steroid taper. This may suggest an autoimmune component in the aetiology of mesenteric panniculitis.

A case of mesenteric panniculitis in a 55-year-old female was reported. Image diagnosis of this rare clinical entity, which is characterized by a nonspecific inflammatory process involving the adipose tissue of the mesentery, was considered. We treated this patient conservatively and this led to remission.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an extremely rare disease in which the normal fatty architecture of the mesentery is replaced by fibrosis, necrosis and calcification. One hundred twenty-four cases of mesenteric panniculitis have been described in the literature; only five of these involved the sigmoid mesentery. The following case report is of mesenteric panniculitis confined to the sigmoid colon. Symptomatology, pathology, treatment and outcome of this disorder are discussed. It seems that this disease is a well established clinical entity of unknown etiology with a benign course and favorable out

Mesenteric panniculitis is an extremely rare disease in which the normal fatty architecture of the mesentery is replaced by fibrosis, necrosis, and calcification. Grossly, the mesentery is massively thickened and rubbery, with irregular areas of reddish-brown to pale yellow foci resembling fat necrosis scattered throughout. Microscopically, inflammatory involvement of the fibroadipose tissue shows round cells, foam cells, and giant cells. Macrophages that have ingested fat, also called lipophages, are the hallmark of the diagnosis. One hundred twenty-two cases of mesenteric panniculitis have b
