Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallbladder dyskinesia: clinical outcome and patient satisfaction.

The clinical outcome of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 63 patients with gallbladder dyskinesia (GD) and 60 patients with proven gallstone (GS) disease was compared. Patients were contacted to determine the extent of symptom relief and satisfaction after surgery. Patients with GD underwent significantly more diagnostic procedures than patients with GS and were found to have higher prevalence of other gastrointestinal motor disorders. Only 47% of patients with GD became completely asymptomatic after surgery, compared with 81% of patients with GS (p = 0.002). This was reflected in the satisfacti

Validating a measure of patient satisfaction with community nursing services.

This study describes an attempt to develop and validate a measure of patient satisfaction with a district nursing service in a south-west London inner city borough. The patients were 126 house-bound elderly people living alone and dependent upon district nursing services. The patient satisfaction measure was derived from an earlier North American questionnaire assessing satisfaction with hospital nursing services. The results indicated that the measure chosen reflected multiple dimensions of patient satisfaction that were differentially sensitive to factors such as the degree of personalizatio…

Patient satisfaction and the LoFric catheter for clean intermittent catheterization.

A pilot study was initiated to determine patient satisfaction with the use of a newly available pre-lubricated, hydrophilic, disposable LoFric* catheter for clean intermittent catheterization. The study population consisted of 16 new patients and 25 experienced with clean intermittent catheterization. Patients were asked questions regarding convenience, ease of handling, comfort and general opinion of the catheters. Four new and 8 experienced patients dropped out of the study. Of the new patients who completed the study 75% found clean intermittent catheterization less troublesome than expecte…

Hidradenitis suppurativa: patient satisfaction with wound healing by secondary intention.

Ariyan and Krizek, in 1976, reported on three patients with perineal hidradenitis suppurativa who, following excision, achieved satisfactory closure allowing spontaneous wound healing by secondary intention. We have used this approach and have considered it very satisfactory from the surgeon's point of view. We now report from the point of view of patients and review the records of 20 consecutive patients with perineal hidradenitis treated by excision and secondary healing. Surgical results and patient satisfaction were assessed 1 year following complete wound closure. All patients reported mi…

Patient satisfaction with tourniquet application and local anaesthesia infiltration in carpal tunnel decompression and the relationship with overall satisfaction.

This was a prospective study designed to determine what effect poor tolerance to tourniquet application and local anaesthesia infiltration in open carpal tunnel decompression has on overall patient satisfaction with the surgical procedure. Fifty patients were recruited into the study. Visual analogue scores (VAS) were recorded postoperatively for pain related to tourniquet application, local anaesthesia infiltration and the surgical procedure overall. In terms of the procedure, poor tolerance to the tourniquet and local anaesthetic showed no significant relationship to the overall patient sati…

Patient satisfaction with HIV service provision in NPMS hospitals: the development of a standard satisfaction questionnaire. NPMS Steering Group.

A self-completion satisfaction questionnaire evaluating the standard of care of HIV outpatient services was developed as part of the National Prospective Monitoring System on the Use, Cost and Outcome of HIV Service Provision in English Hospitals (NPMS). The questionnaire was designed in conjunction with service users and health care professionals, and piloted in three London and three non-London HIV clinics. In addition to testing alternative methods of administering the questionnaire, the pilot provided satisfaction scores on a variety of aspects of service provision for participating clinic

High satisfaction among patients at HIV clinics in Harare, Zimbabwe: a time and motion evaluation and patient satisfaction study.

Patient satisfaction is an important component of health and healthcare utilization, which measures the perceived needs and expectations for healthcare services. Patient satisfaction surveys are effective in improving health outcomes by informing health facilities on service and provider gaps and guiding the development of effective action plans and policies for quality improvement within a healthcare organization. Although patient satisfaction and patient flow analyses have been conducted in Zimbabwe, the combination of these two quality improvement measures in the context of Human Immunodefi…

Preoperative patient expectations and postoperative satisfaction following singlelevel unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar discectomy: Are higher expectations associated with lower satisfaction?

OBJECTIVE: Unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) has gained prominence in the surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) because of its minimally invasive profile. How preoperative patient expectations align with postoperative satisfaction after UBE remains insufficiently characterized. The aim was to evaluate the relationship between preoperative expectations and 6-month postoperative satisfaction after single-level UBE discectomy, while also assessing perioperative safety and patient-reported outcomes. METHODS: Retrospective, single-center cohort of consecutive adults undergoing singl

Materials and Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar between January 2010 and December 2024. Eligible observational studies assessed

Quantitative effects of sex hormones on hair growth and patient satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: Gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) alters hair distribution, a key aspect of gender transition. Transgender women often seek hair reduction, while transgender men typically desire increased hair growth. Previous studies relied on subjective hair assessments, with limited understanding of psychosocial effects. OBJECTIVES: To investigate changes in terminal hair growth in transgender men and women (both lasered and non-lasered) using digital microscopy, and their relation to body image during the first 12 months of GAHT. METHODS: In this longitudinal study, 36 participants (20
