Accuracy of digital impressions for implant fixed dental prostheses in partial and complete maxillary edentulous arches: effect of intraoral scanners and implant position.

BACKGROUND: There is a lack of comprehensive comparative data assessing the accuracy of multiple intraoral scanners (IOSs) across both partially and completely edentulous cases, particularly in the presence of variable implant positions. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of IOSs and implant positions in 4-unit and All-on-4 restorations on the trueness and precision of digital impressions. METHODS: Two maxillary resin models were fabricated: a partially edentulous arch planned for a 4-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) with implants at the canine and first molar sites, and a compl

A structured workflow for adapting stock temporomandibular joint prostheses to custom-fit implants: bridging the gap between off-the-shelf and patient-specific solutions.

Custom-made temporomandibular joint implants provide an excellent anatomical fit for total joint replacement in complex cases, but are associated with high costs and lengthy production times. In contrast, stock temporomandibular joint prostheses offer lower costs and faster availability, but lack the precision fit required for patients with altered anatomy from trauma, congenital deformities, or prior surgeries. This Technical Note presents a structured workflow that enables precise adaptation of stock temporomandibular joint implants by reshaping the patient's anatomy using virtual surgical p

Regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces (RPNIs) and implanted electrodes improve online control of prostheses for hand and wrist.

Objective.Upper limb amputation severely limits daily activities and independence. Current prosthetic control methods often rely on surface electromyography (sEMG), which suffers from low signal quality and limited functionality. This study investigates whether implanted electrodes in regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces (RPNIs) and residual innervated muscles can provide stable and high-quality control signals to improve dexterous prosthetic hand and wrist function.Approach.Two individuals with upper-limb amputation had RPNIs created by suturing free skeletal muscle grafts to peripheral n

Stress distribution in three-unit implant-supported prostheses with different abutment designs: a finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Implant-supported prostheses are widely used in posterior mandibular restorations, where biomechanical factors play a critical role in long-term performance. Abutment design may influence stress distribution within implant-supported systems, potentially affecting both prosthetic components and surrounding bone. This study aimed to evaluate stress distribution in three-unit implant-supported prostheses with different abutment designs using three-dimensional finite element analysis. METHODS: A three-dimensional finite element model of the posterior mandible with two implants (4.1 mm

Reduced Keratin-Based Bioadhesives for Peri-Implant Soft Tissue Sealing around Transcutaneous Metallic Prostheses.

When a percutaneous metallic implant breaches the skin barrier, the lack of peri-implant soft tissue sealing arising from a foreign body reaction and epithelial downgrowth results in delayed wound healing and closure. This facilitates microbial pathogen entry, leading to infection, inflammation, and ultimately, peri-implantitis. Toward this end, bioglue formulations of -human hair keratin (HHK) and chicken feather keratin coupled with polyphenols, dopamine (DOPA), quercetin (Q), and tannic acid (TA) were developed for peri-implant soft tissue sealing. A freeze-thaw gelation mediated by thiol r
