The resistance status against deltamethrin, cypermethrin, coumaphos and ivermectin was assessed of Rhipicephalus microplus from five districts of Uttarakhand, through adult immersion test and larval packet test. Current bed bug, Cimex lectularius L., control usually involves insecticide applications that pose a high risk of insecticide exposure to residents and applicators. To minimize these risks and the amount of insecticides used, we designed and evaluated a dust band treatment technique. Deltamethrin in emulsion concentrate was applied in doses of 12.5, 25.0 and 50.0mg/m2, in households near the littoral of the State of Paraíba, where sporadic cases of visceral leishmaniasis were reported. There was a remarkable decrease in populations of several arthropods, including Lutzomyia longipalpis. This insect, however, was found again in some treated walls, 14 and 21 days after spraying. Statistical analysis indicated significant control for only two four-weeks periods, with extreme irregularity in the quantity captured.

Bacillus cereus SM3 was isolated on a mineral salts medium with Tween 80 as the primary carbon source. It was able to hydrolyze second- and third-generation pyrethroids, thereby generating noninsecticidal products. The enzyme responsible for this hydrolytic reaction was named permethrinase for this study. A synthetic pyrethroid, cypermethrin (NRDC 149), showed activity in killing lice (Damalinia ovis) in the fleece of sheep at concentrations as low as 1 ppm in a dip. In addition concentrations of 5 and 10 ppm showed a persistent effect and prevented reinfestation from contact challenge sheep for 7 and 19 weeks respectively.
