Psychological distress associated with COVID-19 quarantine: Latent profile analysis, outcome prediction and mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mental health of the population during COVID-19 quarantine could be at risk. Previous studies in short quarantines, found mood-related and anxiety symptomatology. Here we aimed to characterize the subtypes of psychological distress associated with quarantine, assess its prevalence, explore risk/protective factors, and possible mechanisms. METHODS: Online cross-sectional data (n = 4408) was collected during the Argentine quarantine, between 1st-17th April 2020 along a small replication study (n = 644). Psychological distress clusters were determined using latent profile analysis on

TRANSMISSION DYNAMICS OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE WITH VACCINE, CONDOM USE, QUARANTINE, ISOLATION AND TREATMENT DRUG.

BACKGROUND: Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has brought the human population, especially the West African race, great losses in so many areas such as economic productivity and human life. During the 2014 Ebola Virus outbreak, the disease devastated and threatened the whole world. EVD symptoms (fever, diarrhea, vomiting, etc) may appear anywhere between two to twenty-one days after infection. Those that recovered from the disease return to being susceptible again and can transmit the virus through semen as research has shown the virus presence in semen even after recovery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Math

Fatal avian polyomavirus infection during quarantine in adult wild-caught red-faced lovebirds (Agapornis pullaria).

An outbreak of avian polyomavirus infection is reported in a group of six wild-caught red-faced lovebirds (Agapornis pullaria), all of which died during quarantine. The birds had not shown any previous symptoms. Histologic examination of the lungs, kidneys, livers, and spleens revealed the presence of basophilic intranuclear inclusions. Avian polyomavirus was isolated from the liver and the spleen. Neutralizing antibodies were detected in the sera from other lovebirds (Agapornis personata, Agapornis taranta) that had contact with the A. pullaria. A serologic comparison showed a close relations

Quarantine, diplomacy, and epidemics: Jean-Étienne-Justin Schneider and the Bubonic Plague of Sīstān in 1906.

The 1906 Sīstān bubonic plague was one of the most significant public health crises of the late Qājār period. This study examines the role of Jean-Étienne-Justin Schneider (1854-1917), head of the Central Sanitary Council (Majles-e Ḥefẓ al-Ṣeḥḥa), in implementing quarantine policies and their impact on the institutionalization of modern medicine and the expansion of public health interventions in Iran. For this purpose, a historical-analytical approach was employed to examine resources from the Center for Documents and Diplomatic History of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as contempor

Effect of Arrival Quarantine on Subsequent COVID-19 Testing in a Cohort of Military Basic Trainees.

INTRODUCTION: Basic Military Training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland implemented several sequential non-pharmaceutical interventions in response to coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). One measure, arrival quarantine, has not been studied as a modern military disease prevention strategy. This study aimed to determine the effect of a 14-day arrival quarantine on symptomatic COVID-19 testing. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study compared symptomatic COVID-19 testing among all trainees who entered Basic Military Training between March 17, 2020, and April 17, 2020, before the im

Achieving Safe, Effective, and Compassionate Quarantine or Isolation of Older Adults With Dementia in Nursing Homes.

Nursing homes are facing the rapid spread of COVID-19 among residents and staff and are at the centre of the public health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As policy changes and interventions designed to support nursing homes are put into place, there are barriers to implementing a fundamental, highly effective element of infection control, namely the isolation of suspected or confirmed cases. Many nursing home residents have dementia, associated with impairments in memory, language, insight, and judgment that impact their ability to understand and appreciate the necessity of isolation

The Biological Threat: The Threat of Planetary Quarantine Failure as a Result of Outer Space Exploration by Humans.

The paper presents the results of experiments with spore-forming bacteria and microscopic fungi performed in the framework of the Russian Research Program outside the International Space Station. It has been found that microorganisms not only survive in this extreme environment, but also retain reproductive ability. Moreover, most microorganisms exhibit an increase in biochemical activity and resistance to antimicrobial agents, specifically antibiotics. These findings are of obvious interest to the developers of both planetary quarantine methods and biomedical safety systems for manned space e

Geospatial analysis of household spread of Ebola virus in a quarantined village - Sierra Leone, 2014.

We performed a spatial-temporal analysis to assess household risk factors for Ebola virus disease (Ebola) in a remote, severely-affected village. We defined a household as a family's shared living space and a case-household as a household with at least one resident who became a suspect, probable, or confirmed Ebola case from 1 August 2014 to 10 October 2014. We used Geographic Information System (GIS) software to calculate inter-household distances, performed space-time cluster analyses, and developed Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE). Village X consisted of 64 households; 42% of househol

Quarantining women: venereal disease rapid treatment centers in World War II America.

Concern about the infection of servicemen and essential war workers with venereal disease led the U.S. Public Health Service, with the cooperation of state and local health officials, to set up a national program of venereal disease quarantine hospitals during World War II. Although some of the hospitals eventually accepted men, the initial purpose of these facilities was to detain and treat venereally affected prostitutes and "promiscuous women" who were considered a threat to the war effort. Using quarantine powers, officials forcibly detained venereally infected women and treated them for t

Breastfeeding, Breastmilk Feeding and Formula Feeding Within the Closed, Temporary Accommodation of Australia's COVID-19 Quarantine.

During 2021-2022, families with infants and young children were among the > 450,000 people who spent 2 weeks in Australia's institutional COVID-19 quarantine. Given pre-existing lack of emergency planning for children, there were concerns about whether parents would be adequately supported in this temporary accommodation. This paper reports on research considering the breastfeeding, breastmilk feeding and formula feeding of infants and young children in Australia's COVID-19 quarantine. Two-hundred and sixteen parents who quarantined with children aged 0-36 months completed an online survey wit

Characteristics of Tuberculosis Tests Performed during Postimport Quarantine of Nonhuman Primates, United States, 2021 to 2024.

Screening nonhuman primates (NHPs) for tuberculosis (TB) is important to protect the health of NHP colonies and people who interact with them. Screening is especially important for imported NHPs from countries where TB is prevalent and biosecurity practices may be lax. There are a variety of testing methods available for TB screening and diagnosis in NHPs; all have limitations, and their performance in different settings is incompletely characterized. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collects TB testing results as part of its regulatory oversight of NHP importation. We c

COVID-19 Transmission among Healthcare Workers at a Quarantine Facility in Thailand: Genomic and Outbreak Investigations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand implemented a quarantine program at approved quarantine facilities for every international traveler. Here, we report an epidemiological and genomic investigation of a COVID-19 cluster consisting of seven healthcare workers (HCWs) at a quarantine facility and its partnered hospital in Thailand. Outbreak investigations were implemented to obtain contact tracing data and to establish chains of transmission. Genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 with samples within the cohort was performed. Investigations of 951 HCWs and staff with quarantined travelers were imple

Glycemic control in type 1 diabetes mellitus and COVID-19 lockdown: What comes after a "quarantine"?

Highlights A stable or even improved glycemic control was found in adolescents with T1DM using hybrid closed loop system not only during COVID-19 lockdown but also in the weeks after, when daily activities slowly resumed. Although the slowing down of routine daily activities might still have an influence, we believe that the continuation of the health care professional assistance through telemedicine during lockdown might have led to a "dragging effect" in these patients also after its suspension.

The impact of COVID-19-related anxiety on obstetric complications and mental health in quarantined pregnant women.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic heightened anxiety among pregnant women, raising concerns about its impact on maternal and fetal health. Although prenatal anxiety is linked to adverse outcomes, the specific relationship between COVID-19-related fear and obstetric complications in quarantined populations remains understudied. This study investigated the association between COVID-19-related fear, obstetric complications, and mental health disorders among quarantined pregnant women in Tehran, Iran. METHODS: This cross-sectional study (June-December 2020) 52 quarantined pregnant women were re
