Research on informed choice in modern contraceptive method acceptance by young married women is pertinent in the broader context of individual freedom and reproductive rights, especially in countries where women continue to have limited control over their reproductive and contraceptive choices. This study in India asked: (1) is young married women's acceptance of specific modern contraceptive methods an informed choice? and (2) what are the enablers and barriers to informed choice? The study used data for currently married women aged 15-24 (N = 20,752) from the fourth round of the National Fam…

This Series paper provides a summary of what is known about the funding, cost, and cost-effectiveness of sexual and reproductive health and rights interventions, interrogates the likely impacts of increasing or reducing future sexual and reproductive health and rights funding, and provides recommendations for policy and regulatory changes from an economic perspective. Interventions that target HIV and sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive interventions, and abortion care are among the most cost-effective health interventions worldwide, but their funding is under severe duress. In 2023

King v. Smith, the first welfare case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, overturned the Alabama substitute father law. Such laws directed or allowed welfare officials to use the sexual behavior and reproductive capacity of poor African American women to alienate this population from "cash-money"; to reassert political and bureaucratic control over the intimate relationships of African Americans, demonstrating that this population was unprepared for civil rights and full citizenship; and to shore up white supremacy in the civil rights era. The context for this case which originated in Selma, Alab

INTRODUCTION: Contraceptive access is a critical component of sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as an indicator of health system performance and broader commitments to gender equity. While global frameworks like Family Planning 2030 emphasize the need for equitable and rights-based access to contraception, Libya's centralized yet fragmented health system, compounded by political instability and weak national monitoring, has contributed to gaps in contraceptive service delivery and limited understanding of how women navigate access in practice. This study examines women's contr

BACKGROUND: Infertility affects an estimated 1 in 6 adults worldwide, yet access to assisted reproductive technology (ART) remains highly inequitable, underscoring the need for policy action. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) constitutionally recognizes reproductive rights and ART. However, public ART services are virtually nonexistent, highlighting a critical gap in reproductive health services.
METHODS: We conducted a mixed‑methods study combining quantitative analysis of 146 women presenting for infertility care at Elikya Clinic (Kinshasa, 2020-2024) with a normative review of Con…

Women living with HIV are stigmatized and discriminated against. They often wish to have children, but they are subjected to the practice of forced (involuntary) sterilization in at least 27 countries under the guise of protecting maternal health and preventing the birth of infected infants. Some women are not asked to give consent, or a third party consents on their behalf. Others are given insufficient information or fed misinformation. The circumstances under which such women have been asked to sign consent forms for sterilization include fear, coercion, intimidation, and undue influence. C

Article 14(2)(c) of the Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women enjoins States Parties to take appropriate measures "to protect the reproductive rights of women by authorising medical abortion in cases of sexual assault, rape, incest, and where continued pregnancy endangers the mental and physical health of the mother or the life of the mother or the foetus." This paper considers the implications of Article 14 for access to safe, legal abortion. It is submitted that Article 14 has the potential to impact positively on regional abortion law, policy, and practice in 3 main areas. …

Current bioethical reflections on social egg freezing appear to be dominated by a rights-based perspective, as illustrated by the recent publication by Gao and Liu in this journal. We argue that, to avoid theoretical blindness in this debate, a more reproductive justice-oriented perspective is necessary. In this article, we critically address two interrelated points in response to Gao and Liu's analysis. First, alongside their discussion of reproductive freedom, we introduce a reproductive justice framework to illustrate how intersectional forms of oppression may inhibit individuals from genui

It concludes that, instead of limiting single women's reproductive rights, Kosovo should provide access to IVF while ensuring that children are granted the opportunity, at an appropriate age, to obtain information about their biological fathers.

BACKGROUND: Fertility preservation helps individuals to retain reproductive potential. Linked to human rights, it can raise complex issues before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This research aims to ethically analyse ECtHR fertility preservation cases.
METHODS: Fertility preservation cases from the ECtHR (2000-2025) were searched in the Human Rights Documentation (HUDOC) database. Three cases were identified. As a team with ethics expertise, we analysed the cases using the four principles of bioethics.
RESULTS: The principle of autonomy highlighted the complexity of posthumous r
