Retrospective study on the management and results of treatment of acute cholecystitis in elderly patients. From 1965 to 1985, 147 patients over 74 years of age were treated, 38 conservatively, 76 by cholecystectomy, 32 by cholecystectomy plus exploration of the common bile duct and one by cholecystostomy. There was a high mortality in male patients (19.3%) after emergency operations (17.3%) and after choledochotomy (21.8%) compared to an overall mortality of 12.9%. We tried to determine the incidence of Reye's syndrome (RS) in Denmark in a retrospective study. As RS is often preceded by influenza B, we chose the year 1979, where an epidemic of influenza B was registered in Denmark. All children aged 1 month to 18 years, who died, were identified, excluding children who died from accidents or malignant diseases. Two hundred and forty-two children died in hospital. Cryptosporidiosis was diagnosed in 81 guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) from 1979 through 1985 at a research animal diagnostic laboratory. Among the most challenging patients seen for evaluation by a health care practitioner are those suffering from the atypical facial pain syndrome. They have almost inevitably been subjected to extensive treatment which either has had no effect on the symptoms or has aggravated them. In this retrospective study the results of trabeculectomy in 21 patients with open-angle glaucoma and no previous eye surgery who were followed up for at least 1 year were analysed. In 10 patients sodium hyaluronate had been injected during the operation to cushion the anterior chamber; the other 11 patients served as controls. A retrospective study of 134 patients with Types I, II, and III acromioclavicular separations was carried out. Over a period of 20 years, 1,109 operations were performed for peptic ulcer. The site was duodenal in 873, gastric in 161 and marginal in 75. Eighty-three closures of perforations resulted in eight deaths and 28 second operations. A retrospective series of 365 orbital floor fractures was studied and many variables were analyzed. Some type of ocular or orbital adnexal damage was present in 32% of the patients. Schistosomatidae is a family of trematodes that generally have an indirect life cycle, with snails as intermediate hosts in avian schistosomiasis and aquatic birds as definitive hosts. Bhutan is a tropical country where snakebite is supposedly common, but official data are scanty and unmethodical. Deaths from snakebites were reported from areas where snakebites are common. Four-year (2018-2021) data of snakebite from 45 Bhutanese hospitals were collected and analysed to describe the burden and map by districts.
