[Challenges for Urologists in the Care of Patients with Lynch Syndrome: Example of A Patient with Muir-Torre Syndrome, A Subtype of Lynch Syndrome].

The Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is a subtype of the Lynch syndrome (hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer). In addition to tumours typically related to LS, MTS is associated with tumours of the sebaceous gland or keratoacanthoma. MTS is mostly characterised by a mutation of MSH2. In contrast to LS-associated tumours carrying a mutation of MLH1, MSH6 or PMS2, the frequency of urological neoplasms seems to be higher in Lynch syndrome patients with MSH2 mutation. Urological implications for the care of patients with LS or MTS include the early diagnosis of a possible hereditary background in pa

Intraepithelial growth pattern for eyelid sebaceous carcinoma: a cohort of 214 patients from a single institution.

AIMS: To determine the distribution of three different intraepithelial growth patterns (pagetoid, bowenoid and papillary) in eyelid sebaceous carcinoma (SC) and correlate them with the clinical characteristics and prognosis. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study. The medical charts and pathological sections were retrospectively reviewed. All eligible patients were followed up for recurrence, metastasis and tumour-related mortality. The clinical significance of each intraepithelial growth pattern was determined by Cox regression. RESULTS: Of the 214 patients, 67 (31%) presented with intraepit

Toxicology and carcinogenesis studies of coconut oil acid diethanolamine condensate (CAS No. 68603-42-9) in F344/N rats and B6C3F1 mice (dermal studies).

UNLABELLED: Coconut oil acid diethanolamine condensate, a mixture of fatty acid diethanolamides of the acids found in coconut oil, is widely used in cosmetics, shampoos, soaps, and related consumer products. Because of the lack of information about potential risks associated with long-term exposure, coconut oil acid diethanolamine condensate was selected as a representative of the diethanolamine chemical class for evaluation of toxicity and carcinogenic potential. Male and female F344/N rats and B6C3F1 mice received dermal applications of coconut oil acid diethanolamine condensate for 14 weeks

Eccrine Spiradenoma of the Lower Back: A Surgical Case Report.

Spiradenoma is an uncommon benign neoplasm originating from eccrine sweat glands, typically characterized by a solitary tumor. Its diagnosis poses a challenge due to its morphological similarity to other solitary swellings. This report highlights the case of a 28-year-old male who presented with a solitary swelling on his right lower back. On ultrasonography, it was initially diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst. However, surgical excision and histopathological analysis revealed a well-defined grey-white nodule composed of basaloid cells organized in an alveolar and tubular pattern. This confirmed th

Sebaceous adenocarcinomas of the major salivary glands: a clinicopathological analysis of 10 cases.

AIMS: Sebaceous carcinomas are uncommon malignant cutaneous tumours originating from the pilosebaceous unit. Although its occurrence is mostly common in peri-ocular glands, other anatomical regions of the head and neck may be affected, including major and minor salivary glands. METHODS AND RESULTS: We describe a series of sebaceous adenocarcinomas of the parotid and submandibular glands. The mean age was 62.1 (range = 31-90) years. Two patients (20%) presented regional or distant metastasis to mandible and lungs. All cases were positive for cytokeratins (AE1AE3 and CK-5), epithelial membrane

Masquerade syndrome.

A 52-year-old man experienced chronic blepharoconjunctivitis of the right eye of the three years' duration that was unresponsive to medications. Conjunctival cytologic examinations suggested carcinoma and this was confirmed. However, only a full-thickness eyelid biopsy established that the tumor was a sebaceous carcinoma. We discuss the importance of considering this condition in all cases of unilateral, persistent, or recurrent eyelid inflammation resistant to the usual therapy; the diagnostic value of conjunctival scrapings and full-thickness lid biopsy; and the necessity of interpretation o

Sebaceous lymphadenoma of parotid gland in a child.

Sebaceous lymphadenoma is a rare tumor presenting predominantly in the parotid gland. Most sebaceous lymphadenomas are composed of variably sized sebaceous glands admixed with salivary ducts in a diffuse lymphoid background. The treatment is complete surgical excision, and this tumor is rarely recurrent. Reported here is a case of sebaceous lymphadenoma of the left parotid gland in a 16-year-old boy. A left superficial parotidectomy was performed.

[Sebaceous gland carcinoma of the eyelids].

Sebaceous gland carcinoma is considered a relatively rare tumor and represents approximately 1 and 5% of all eyelid tumors. These tumors usually arise in the Meibomian glands of tarsus, in the Zeis glands, and the sebaceous glands of caruncle or eyebrow. In some instances it had multicentric origin, while in other cases the initial location was unable to be determined. It occurs more frequently in women than in men and presentation age varies from 50 to 90 years. Clinical diagnosis is difficult because is can be confused with chalazion, blepharoconjunctivitis, conjunctivitis, and basocellular

Aggressive sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid: an elusive diagnosis.

Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid, an extremely rare neoplasm, can resemble blepharitis, conjunctivitis, or chalazion, as in the case presented here. A biopsy specimen should be examined if these conditions fail to respond to therapy, especially if the lesion is unilateral. The tumor can be multifocal, and pagetoid proliferation is common. Therefore, recurrences are common after conservative surgery, even if frozen sections are obtained from the margins. Orbital exenteration may be necessary to prevent metastasis.

Cutaneous adnexal differentiation and stromal metaplasia in palate pleomorphic adenomas: a potential diagnostic pitfall that may be mistaken for malignancy.

Cutaneous adnexal differentiation is well-recognized in benign mixed tumors occurring in cutaneous sites. The incidence of this histologic finding in salivary gland sites is not known. We sought to describe the incidence of cutaneous adnexal differentiation in benign mixed tumors of the palate, lip, and parotid gland. Benign mixed tumors of the palate (n=30), lip (n=13), and parotid gland (n=37) resected between 1980 and 2009 at a single academic medical institution were reviewed. All hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections containing neoplasm were reviewed by all authors including one dermatop

[Establishment of standardized diagnosis and treatment of eyelid sebaceous carcinoma in China].

Eyelid sebaceous carcinoma is a malignant tumor originating from Meibomian glands, Zeis glands, and other glands surrounding hair follicles. It is the second most common eyelid malignancy, following basal cell carcinoma, in China. Considering its diversified clinical manifestations and strong tendency for recurrence and metastasis, standardized cancer staging, surgical excision with frozen section control, and postsurgical follow-up has been internationally adopted with the aim to considerably reduce the risk of recurrence and metastasis. However, the lack of standardized and normalized stagin

An immunohistochemical study of sebaceous carcinoma with anti-keratin monoclonal antibodies: comparison with other skin cancers.

Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimens of six cases of extraocular sebaceous carcinoma were studied immunohistochemically with eight anti-keratin monoclonal antibodies, 34 beta B4, 35 beta H11, Ks13.1, Ks19.1, PKK1, LP34, KL1 and AE1. The staining patterns of sebaceous carcinoma were compared with those of normal sebaceous glands and other skin cancers which should be distinguished from sebaceous carcinoma histopathologically. The other skin cancers compared were eccrine porocarcinoma, malignant clear cell hidradenoma, extramammary Paget's disease with underlying adenocarcinoma,

Sebaceous Carcinoma of the Face Treated With Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) for sebaceous carcinoma (SC) may reduce local recurrence rates, but published case series have small cohorts and limited follow-up. Mohs micrographic surgery is particularly suitable for sensitive functional and cosmetic locations, such as the face, because it facilitates tissue conservation using complete peripheral and deep margin assessment before reconstruction. Coordinated care between Mohs and oculoplastic surgeons has not been described. OBJECTIVE: To assess rates of local recurrence and metastasis after MMS of facial SC and to describe coord

Extraocular sebaceous carcinoma: a report of 2 cases.

Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare, aggressive adnexal tumor of unknown etiology; 75% of these tumors arise in the periocular region while 25% arise at extraocular sites. This cutaneous tumor is a diagnostic sign of Muir-Torre syndrome, a disorder associated with visceral malignancies and gene abnormalities. Patients with sebaceous carcinoma should therefore be carefully evaluated; a detailed personal and family history of cancer, a thorough physical examination, additional tests where appropriate, and close monitoring will all be required. We report 2 cases of extraocular sebaceous carcinoma and r

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma of the orbit mimicking pagetoid sebaceous gland carcinoma.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare malignancy of sweat glands that has been reported most often on the face in the form of a cutaneous lesion, with the potential for deeper invasion. The synonyms of MAC include sclerosing sweat duct carcinoma, syringomatous carcinoma, and malignant syringoma. Clinically, MAC in the periocular area has been misdiagnosed as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or even chalazia. We report a case of MAC presenting clinically as sebaceous gland carcinoma with pagetoid spread for the first time in literature.

Expression of the Wilms' tumour gene and its association with PPARβ/δ in healthy skin and melanoma of horses.

The Wilms' tumour gene (WT1) has previously been described as an oncogene in several neoplasms of humans, including melanoma, and its expression increases cancer cell proliferation. Recent reports associate the expression of the PPARβ/δ gene (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta/delta) with the downregulation of WT1 in human melanoma and murine melanoma cell lines. The aim of this work was to analyse the expression of WT1 and its association with PPARβ/δ in samples of healthy and melanoma-affected skin of horses by immunohistochemistry. WT1 protein expression was detected in healthy

Juvenile sclerosing polycystic adenosis cytologically mimicking Warthin tumor.

Sclerosing polycystic adenosis (SPA) is a rare salivary gland disease. Histologically it resembles a low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ or sclerosing adenosis of the breast, characterized by lobular proliferation of ducts with apocrine cellular features surrounded by fibrosclerotic stroma. Although SPA is typically benign, recurrence is not uncommon, and cases with a malignant component have been documented. Thus, complete excision is desirable but preoperative diagnosis is challenging. A 12-year-old boy presented with a painless mass in the right neck. We identified a well-demarcated mass in
