Values for hair chromium concentration of nulliparous women and parous women who had just given birth to a child were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Mean values for hair chromium concentration of nulliparous and parous subjects were 309 +/- 23 and 117 +/- 10 ppb, respectively. The difference was highly significant (P less than 0.001). BACKGROUND: Psoriasis vulgaris is a common skin disease afflicting 1-3% of the American population. Its pathogenesis remains unknown despite concerted research efforts. Our purpose was to study baseline serum nickel concentrations in psoriasis vulgaris subjects and in healthy control subjects.

Six hundred and thirty-four food samples of six kinds were collected from Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Jilin and Guangdong areas, China and Hg, Pb, Cd contents were determined. The results showed that their levels in the Chinese foods were low; their levels in meat, egg, milk and fish were generally below the national hygienic standard. The average daily dietary intake of Hg, Pb, Cd were 7.25 micrograms, 103.77 micrograms and 30.72 micrograms respectively and they were all less than the ADI established by WHO.

A method of seven elements analysis by A FAAS in Chinese traditional medicament Huanjingjian oral liquid and their elementary exploration in resistance to senility is described. A lot of K and Fe, and considerable amounts of Zn, Rb and Mn are found, but Co and Cu exist in small quantities. The reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) by glutathione (GSH) in vitro resulted in the formation of two different GSH-chromium complexes with an approximate molecular-weight of 10,000 and 5000, respectively. Both complexes exhibited strong fluorescence. The molar ratio between oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and chromium was calculated by determining the chromium content of the two isolated complex species by flameless Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS).
