Estimation of stature is one of the principal elements in practical forensic casework involving examination of skeletal remains. Nocardiosis is a rare infectious disease due to Nocardia infections. In this report, we present a rare case of cutaneous nocardiosis with involvement of the trachea, anterior mediastinum and sternum. The strain of Nocardia has been isolated from bacterial culture of infected tissue. 16s rRNA sequencing confirmed that it contained the Nocardia genus. The patient was successfully treated with Co-SMZ.

We report our result of the reinforced sternal closure in 51 consecutive patients. We applied a new type of absorbable radiopaque pins (Super FIXSORB) composed of poly-lactide acid and hydroxyapatite, in addition to conventional stainless steel wires. The risk scores of our patients were calculated from the simplified risk scoring system for major infection based on the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Cardiac Database. Sternotomy in a patient with an aneurysm in the ascending aorta adherent to the sternum after cardiac surgery can result in fatal hemorrhage or brain damage unless the distal ascending aorta can be identified and secured immediately. A left anterolateral thoracotomy was used in three patients with adherent aneurysms. The distal ascending aorta was isolated, and dissection was performed between the aneurysm and the sternum. There was no complication. This method was safe, and blood loss was minimized.

The author proposes an original method of determination of the degree of deformation in angular values on the basis of his experience in the treatment of 27 patients with infundibulum-like deformation of the chest. In case of surgical treatment the method of thoracoplasty after N. I. Kondrashin is preferable. The design formula of the size of the resected rib area is proposed. To stabilize the framework of the chest fixation by crossing wires on the ring support after G. A. Ilizarov is suggested. Submerged crossing wires with bent supporting ends were used for more continuous fixation.
