We evaluated the effect of sucralfate in patients with early gastric cancer in endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)-induced gastric ulcers, and in rats with acetic acid-induced ulcers, by measuring concentrations of aluminium adhering to mucosal lesions. METHODS: Seventy-seven chronic duodenal ulcer patients (50 male) were entered into this study. Treatment was started with sucralfate suspension (2 g b.d.) for 8 weeks. After 2 weeks the patients also received 750 mg amoxycillin t.d.s. plus 500 mg metronidazole t.d.s. for 12 days. The aim of this study was to compare the healing capacities of sucralfate and cimetidine in gastric ulcer. Twenty-nine patients were randomly assigned to active sucralfate (1 g qid) and cimetidine placebo, or to cimetidine (300 mg qid) and sucralfate placebo.
