OBJECTIVES: We analyzed the outcome of patients with implantable left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) at the University of Tokyo Hospital to compare those with centrifugal pumps (CE group: Duraheart and Evaheart) and those with axial-flow pumps (AX group: Heartmate II and Jarvik 2000).
METHODS: A total of 68 patients who underwent implantation of LVADs (Duraheart: n = 15; Evaheart: n = 23; Heartmate II: n = 22; Jarvik 2000: n = 8) as a bridge to transplantation at our institution from May 2011 to April 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Up-to-date information is needed on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) diagnosis, stage, treatment, and survival.
METHODS: Of > 2000 patients with a new diagnosis of HCC in 2023 in the US Veterans Health Administration, a random subsample of 194 confirmed HCC cases were selected for a structured medical record review by expert hepatologists.
RESULTS: Among 194 confirmed HCC cases in 2023, mean age was 73 years, and only 56.7% had cirrhosis diagnosed before HCC, while 12.9% had cirrhosis diagnosed after HCC and 22.2% did not have cirrhosis. Stage at diagnosis was T1 in 17.5%,

BACKGROUND: Bradycardia with poor perfusion is the most common reason for in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in children. To date, validated methods to risk-standardize pediatric survival rates for CPR events in hospitals that includes bradycardia with poor perfusion do not exist.
METHODS: Within Get With the Guidelines-Resuscitation, we identified 8080 children who underwent CPR between 2016 and 2023. Using hierarchical logistic regression, we derived and validated a model for survival to hospital discharge to calculate risk-standardized survival rates (RSSRs) for hospitals.

A two years prospective study was developed, based on the monitoring of 84 patients with cirrhosis and elevated serum creatinine; 33 patients met the diagnostic criteria for the hepatorenal syndrome. Unresectable malignant liver tumors may be treated by LTx. We evaluated the results of LTx for HB and HCC. All patients transplanted for HB or HCC between 1990 and 2007 were included. Alport's syndrome, a hereditary disorder characterized by a combination of nephritis and deafness, was first described in 1927. Herein, we have presented 20 cases of Alport's syndrome in renal transplant recipients. OBJECTIVES: To assess the results of lung transplantation (LT) in children under 17 years of age and identify factors affecting long-term survival.
