The development of the ability to record a patient's ECG during a full 24-hour day of normal activities has resulted in improved arrhythmia detection and potential for treatment. Improved methods of ECG data processing, using computer techniques, now allows quantitation of PVC frequency and improved correlation of the arrhythmia with events occurring during the period of recording. Knowledge of the natural occurrence and variability of ambulatory arrhythmias permits appropriate choice and timing of antiarrhythmic therapy.

The utilization of voice spectrography can be an important adjunct to the assessment of vocal cord function by both laryngologists and speech pathologists. It is especially useful in determining the effectiveness of vocal cord Teflon paste injection procedures. Dysphonic characteristics are made visible, and their improvement can be monitored. As such, spectrographic analysis should be considered as a useful tool for the laryngologist.

A within-subject comparison of the effects on the overnight sleep EEG of 1 tablet of Mandrax (containing methaqualone base 250 mg. and diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25 mg.) and 200 mg. Tuinal (equal parts of quinalbarbitone sodium and amylobarbitone sodium) in 14 normal subjects is reported.Mandrax-induced sleep was not significantly different from natural sleep in the duration of light, moderate, deep and REM phases. Tuinal produced a significant reduction in REM sleep (P < 0.01) compared with natural sleep and with Mandrax-induced sleep.

We have compared casual indirect measurements of arterial pressure obtained 1) by the general practitioner (GP) and 2) in the outpatient clinic (OPC) with 24 hour continuous recording of direct arterial pressure in two selected group of unrestricted patients. 1) Eight asymptomatic, untreated patients with suspected hypertension. 2) Eight asymptomatic, treated patients whose indirect pressure readings seemed inappropriately high when considered against a general absence of target organ damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of voice quality deviations in a normal adult population. One-hundred twelve subjects, aged 17 to 80, read a short paragraph aloud into a high-fidelity tape recorder and completed a case history questionnaire.
