In the presented case extensive tooth damage has been caused by an eating disorder (bulimia nervosa coupled with frequent vomiting). Although the patient's premised disorder has been treated successfully, palatal and occlusal surfaces of the upper teeth were profoundly damaged due to previous acidic erosion. There was also a significant hypersensitivity of upper teeth, and the patient was dissatisfied with the aesthetics of the upper teeth as well. In order to treat pain symptom, replace lost hard dental tissues, and restore aesthetics, porcelain covered zirconium dioxide crowns of upper teeth

This study evaluated fracture resistance in class II slot packable composite restorations with and without the use of a flowable composite liner. A conventional microhybrid composite was used as a control. Thirty-six sound, caries-free human mandibulary molar teeth were used. Separate mesio-occlusal and disto-occlusal class II slot cavity preparations were made in each tooth. The prepared teeth were randomly divided into three groups of 12 teeth. Two packable composites (Surefil, Filtek P60) and one microhybrid composite (Filtek Z250) with their respective manufacturer's bonding agents were us

Tooth replacement often leads to inadequate vertical volume in the recipient site bone when a tooth has been extracted because of a vertical root fracture (VRF). This case report presents the autotransplantation of a mandibular third molar (tooth #32) with the attached buccal cortical plate to replace a mandibular second molar (tooth #31) diagnosed with a VRF. After extraction of tooth #31, the recipient socket was prepared based on the size measured in advance with cone-beam computed tomographic imaging. The precise and calculated osteotomy of the cortical bone of tooth #32 allowed for the ex

BACKGROUND: Maxillary growth in patients with clefts is highly variable. The authors' aim was to investigate whether severity of maxillary hypoplasia is associated with the presence of permanent tooth agenesis in children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate.
METHODS: Fifty children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate were divided into two groups of 25 children. One group had tooth agenesis of the cleft maxillary lateral incisor, whereas the other did not. Panoramic radiographs, lateral cephalometric radiographs, and dental casts were available for all children in the mixed

AIM: To compare the accuracy of three electronic apex locators in the measurement of the root length of primary teeth with the radiographic and direct visual techniques.
METHODS: The sample of the in vitro study was 102 root canals of primary molars. For the direct visual technique, the root canal file was introduced into the canal until its tip passed the apical foramen, then it was moved back to the limit of the foramen or root resorption and the measurement was made with a millimetre ruler. For the radiographic measurement, a calibrated and blinded researcher (κ > 0.87) measured the root c

BACKGROUND: Tooth wear is a non-pathological loss of hard tissues on the incisal and occlusal tooth surface. In archaeology, the loss of dental tissue through attrition is associated with living opportunities and habits, availability, characteristics and methods of food preparation. In forensics, tooth wear is used to estimate the dental age on cadavers.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: For this study, we used an archaeological sample from two sample collections. In this study, tooth wear was compared in archaeological samples of well-preserved maxilla and mandible specimens (n=392) from Croatian coasta

Class 4 invasive cervical root resorption (ICRR) presents a treatment dilemma in endodontics. The widely accepted treatment options for a class 4 ICRR are to leave these teeth untreated for as long as they are asymptomatic or extraction. This report presents a conservative approach for the management of class 4 ICRR. A 28-year-old woman was referred for root canal treatment of tooth #26. The patient had a history of orthodontic treatment. Radiographic evaluation showed class 4 ICRR that had perforated the root canal space, a radiolucent crestal bony defect, and a periapical lesion. Clinically,

AIM: To report the repair of an extensive periapical lesion of endodontic origin, following nonsurgical treatment.
SUMMARY: Clinical and radiographic examination revealed an extensive periapical lesion related to tooth 22, extending from the distal surface of tooth 21 to the mesial surface of 26. The patient reported a previous history of dental trauma involving this quadrant and had been under orthodontic treatment for a year. Intraoral examination revealed an asymptomatic bony hard swelling, mainly confined to the palate. During root canal exploration irregular walls associated with 3 mm of

A 6-year-old spayed female poodle dog weighing 5 kg was presented with a fractured right upper canine tooth (#104). Dental examination using an intraoral camera and radiography confirmed a tooth fracture with an exposed pulp, resulting in the loss of ~2/3 of the crown. Tooth #104 was diagnosed with a complicated crown fracture. Consequently, root canal therapy was undertaken, involving root canal preparation with hand files and subsequent canal filling with appropriate filling materials. After the root canal therapy was completed, part of the filling material was removed to facilitate post pla

UNLABELLED: Esthetics is a prime concern for a young lady. Any anomaly in the anterior tooth may create anxiety and depression. This anxiety and depression may hamper her married life and overall personality. This case report reveals an unerupted right central incisor situated in a strange position, creating space in the maxillary anterior region and giving an unesthetic appearance. Autotransplantation is a method of choice for a strangely positioned impacted central incisor in a new appropriate site. This method offers a new treatment option for some clinical situations if orthodontic approac

Dentin consists of several identifiable structures: tubules with cell processes and fluid; highly mineralized peritubular dentin; and intertubular dentin consisting mainly of collagen and deposited apatite. The structural organization and microstructural variations reflect formative influences, such as tooth size and shape, and alterations caused by age, insult, and disease. However, details of structure-chemistry-property relationships for this anisotropic biologic composite are limited. Materials scientists are focusing on an array of new spectroscopic, analytical, and imaging techniques tha

Dens invaginatus (DI) is a developmental anomaly that affects teeth. This case report demonstrates the successful endoaesthetic management of a Type II DI in the maxillary right lateral incisor (Tooth 12). A 12-year-old female patient presented with pain and swelling in Tooth 12, which had previously been diagnosed with DI and accessed endodontically. The patient was also concerned about the aesthetic appearance of her anterior teeth. Clinical, radiographic, and tomographic findings confirmed Oehler's type II DI, with root perforation and an apical abscess in Tooth 12, as well as pulp necrosis

UNLABELLED: Autotransplantation is the surgical repositioning of a tooth within the same patient. It can be thought of as a controlled avulsion and re-implantation of a tooth in a new, surgically prepared socket. The indications for its use are discussed, as too are factors affecting the success and the clinical procedures. The preservation and regeneration of the periodontal ligament is the key to success of this treatment. A case involving the transplantation of a premolar tooth into the central incisor location in a child is presented to show the different stages of the process.

Careful management of fused teeth is essential as abnormal morphology can predispose a tooth to caries and periodontal disease. In this paper, a rare case of successful endodontic management of unilateral mandibular third molar fused to a distomolar is reported. Caries was removed from the tooth complex under local anaesthesia. The pulp chambers of the third molar and supernumerary tooth were accessed and the root canals were prepared using rotary instrumentation and copious irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. Obturation using the lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha and AH26
