OBJECTIVE: Traumatic absence of the proximal urethra is an obstetrical vesicovaginal fistula resulting from obstructed labors in Niger, Africa. Repair by direct reanastomosis was evaluated.
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective case series of 25 women with traumatic absence of the proximal urethra underwent a direct layered reanastomosis of the distal urethra to the urethrovesical junction. Results are based on 21 patients (84%) examined at follow-up.

When synthetic materials are used for the construction of pubovaginal slings, urethral erosions may occur. This complication has not been reported with fascial slings. We present a case of a 34-year-old woman who underwent a pubovaginal sling procedure using rectus fascia. A 20-year follow-up (1975-1994) in urological clinic of 107 males with benign tumors of the urethra (BTU) has determined that most commonly encountered BTU comprise viral papillomas (67.3%), polyps (22.4%), angiomas (10.3%). The findings of a histological study of a rare specimen of a human hypospadias penis are presented. These findings suggest that distal pits are due to arrested development of the glandar urethra. Papillary adenoma of the prostatic urethra is a common cause of hemospermia and hematuria in young men in our country. Between November 1982 and June 1983, 25 such patients have been treated. Mesonephric carcinoma of the female urethra is rare arising from vestiges of the Wolffian duct and is particularly of gynaecological or urological interest. It has been treated once successfully by radical anterior pelvic exenteration. By more conservative methods of treatment such as transurethral resections, radiation or topical application of thio-tepa it is poorly controlled. The diagnosis is established by a histological pattern reminiscent of the mesonephros.
