Tuberculosis and syphilis are often missed by ophthalmologists. The remedy is to perform complete PPD and FTA-ABS testing in all cases of uveitis in which the diagnosis is not apparent. Ocular toxoplasmosis should never be treated with corticosteroids alone but should be covered by at least one antitoxoplasmic agent. From none to four systemic medications may be used depending on the position and severity of the retino-choroiditis. We determined the incidence of immune complex increases, the nature of immune complexes, and the correlation between the immune complex level and clinical uveitis status in patients with chronic iridocyclitis and chronic diffuse uveitis. Ten of 16 patients with chronic iridocyclitis had increased levels of immune complexes, and this correlated with disease activity. We have studied the antigen frequencies in a group of adult patients with acute and chronic iridocyclitis and chronic, cyclitis. In patients with iridocyclitis a statistically significant increased incidence of HLA-B27 was noted, even in those patients without joint or systemic disease. Patients with chronic iridocyclitis also were noted to have an increased incidence of B27; however, those patients with chronic cyclitis did not. On the basis of HLA-B27 studies there appears to be a fundamental difference between adult and juvenile iridocyclitis.

Seven patients with anterior uveitis due to leptospirosis are presented. The diagnosis was based upon serologic tests and exclusion of other etiologic possibilities. Six patients came from a well-known endemic area of leptospirosis during the time of epidemics and one case came from an area which was not known to be endemic at the time. In 5 patients the uveitis was bilateral. The disease was mild in all but 2 patents who needed systemic administration of steroids. The posterior part of the eye was not involved in any of the cases.

PURPOSE: To report the clinical and fluorescein angiographic (FA) features of demyelinating plaque-associated uveitis (DPU), a subset of uveitis in which patients have demyelinating plaques on the brain/cervical magnetic resonance image (MRI) but do not meet the criteria for multiple sclerosis (MS).
METHODS: In this retrospective observational study, Persian Patients were diagnosed with DPU and included if (1) they never satisfied the MS criteria, (2) all other possible etiologies were excluded, and (3) they were followed for at least 2 years.
