68 human enteroviruses are responsible for many acute viral diseases. An economic diagnostic procedure is discussed and documented by the author's own findings. Virus isolation is regarded as the method of choice, for epidemiological reasons and in view of the fact that enteroviruses are often isolated within a few days.

OBJECTIVES: Hematophagous terrestrial leeches are common in rainforest habitats and widely regarded as pests. Despite limited research, circumstantial evidence raises the possibility that, beyond being an annoyance, terrestrial leeches could potentially transmit diseases.

This study aimed to compare the virology and epidemiology of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC), pharyngoconjunctival fever (PCF) and acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) outbreaks worldwide caused by the human adenovirus (HAdV) from 1953 to 2013.
