Inoculation of an established endothelial cell line from transgenic mouse hemangiomas (Py-4-1) into histocompatible mice induced vascular tumor formation at the site of infection with 100% frequency. A leukemoid reaction is a rare condition characterized by an elevation in white blood cell count exceeding 50,000 cells/μL in response to severe medical conditions, which can mimic the presentation of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Distinguishing between leukemoid reaction and CML depends on a thorough clinical history and comprehensive laboratory evaluation. We present a case of leukemoid reaction associated with severe diabetic ketoacidosis, where the patient's white blood cell count returned to the normal range after the correction of hyperglycemia and electrolyte imbalances.

A 52-year-old man with mantle cell lymphoma treated with bendamustine and rituximab developed prolonged severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Despite elevated titers of anti-spike IgG antibody, protracted pancytopenia persisted for more than six months. Finally, the anti-SARS CoV-2 vaccine, BNT162b2, was administered, which improved his blood cell count and eliminated the virus. The increased anti-spike IgG titer and lymphocyte count after vaccination suggested that both humoral and cellular immunity acted in coordination to eliminate the virus.

Plasma cell leukemia is a rare, aggressive form of multiple myeloma. A 35-year-old male presented with backache, generalized weakness, and facial puffiness. His complete blood count showed anemia and a high WBC count with atypical cells on peripheral smear. Bone marrow examination showed more than 90% of atypical plasma cells, confirming a diagnosis of plasma cell leukemia. Patient also had azotemia, hypercalcemia, and hyperuricemia. The patient was started on chemotherapy along with supportive care. Patient improved dramatically and he was discharged on regular follow-up.

A case of pulmonary sarcoidosis and idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia is reported. Pneumocystis carinii was detected in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of a young homosexual man who was asymptomatic without any evidence of congenital or acquired immunodeficiency but with a low CD4+ cell count. A clinical and histological diagnosis of pulmonary sarcoidosis was made. During follow up the patient had oral candidiasis and a CD4+ cell count persistently below 300/microliters. This case is highly suggestive of concurrent pulmonary sarcoidosis and idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia.

Agranulocytosis is a rare but serious adverse effect of sulfasalazine treatment. We present a case of a 51-year-old woman receiving sulfasalazine for inflammatory arthritis presenting with sore throat, fever, lethargy and leucopenia (white cell count 0.9 × 10(9)/L). After 9 days of treatment with filgrastim (granulocyte-colony stimulating factor, G-CSF), her white cell count increased to 77.4 × 10(9)/L. This case highlights the importance of recognising sulfasalazine-induced agranulocytosis and the management of hyperleucocytosis following G-CSF treatment, to prevent harmful sequelae.
