Oligosypthomatic ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in a spontaneous uneventful pregnancy. A case report.

Spontaneous hyperstimulation syndrome (spOHSS) is a rare event in pregnancies following natural conception. Only a few cases are reported in the scientific literature and result associated with massive ovarian enlargement with multiple cysts, dehydration, and fluid accumulation in the "third space". We report a novel case of spOHSS in a naturally conceived singleton pregnancy. The spOHSS was characterized by massive ovarian enlargement with multiple cysts. No dehydration and no signs of ascites were observed. The pregnancy uneventful evolved up to term.

Spinal extradural arachnoid cyst: review of surgical techniques.

Extradural arachnoid cysts of the spine are a rare cause of spinal cord and nerve root compression, usually in the mid to lower thoracic spine and at the thoraco-lumbar junction in a posterior position. Local pain and myelopathy occur predominantly in young adults, and MRI reveals a well-demarcated extradural lesion, iso-intense to cerebrospinal fluid. We report a 33-year-old woman with an extradural arachnoid cyst from T11 to L1 and review the surgical techniques reported in the literature.

Hydatid cyst presenting as a breast lump.

Cystic hydatid disease is caused by the parasite Echinococcus granulosus. Indigenous infections are seen among the Indians and Inuit. Man is an occasional intermediate host in whom the disease is manifested by the presence of one or more hydatid cysts, usually located in the liver or lung and rarely at other sites such as the breast, as in this case report. The cyst is usually asymptomatic; in this it case was discovered on routine mammography. On aspiration biopsy, 1 ml of clear fluid was removed, but there was a residual lump which was successfully excised.

Spinal extradural arachnoid cyst in the dorsolumbar region: A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Spinal extradural arachnoid cysts (SEACs) represent <1% of all spinal epidural lesions. They mostly occur in the thoracic region and occasionally are thoracolumbar in location. Typically, patients may be asymptomatic or exhibit pain with/without a neurological deficit. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 44-year-old female presented with a 5-year history of chronic low back pain and intermittent dysesthesia but had no neurological deficits. The magnetic resonance revealed an extradural cyst at D12-L1, isointense to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and displacing the dural sac ventrally. The patient unde

Development of a cyst-targeted therapy for polycystic kidney disease using an antagonistic dimeric IgA monoclonal antibody against cMET.

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is characterized by the development of fluid-filled kidney cysts and relentless progression to renal failure. Current treatments have adverse effects and limited efficacy, enhancing the need for improved therapeutics. Here, we provide a proof of concept for the use of dimeric immunoglobulin A (IgA) (dIgA) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to target epithelial-enclosed cysts, by exploiting their ability to transcytose via the polymeric immunoglobulin receptor highly expressed on renal cyst-lining cells. We engineered an antagonistic dIgA mAb against the cell mesenchym

An anterior mediastinal cystic lesion pathologically confirmed as a mediastinal pancreatic pseudocyst after thoracoscopic resection: a rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Mediastinal lesions have diverse etiologies, with thymoma, cystic teratoma, and lymphoma being relatively prevalent. In contrast, a pancreatic pseudocyst within the mediastinum is exceedingly rare and can often be mistaken for a thymic cyst or teratoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-year-old female presented with a cough and sputum production. Chest CT revealed an anterior mediastinal mass, initially raising the suspicion of a thymic cyst. Thoracoscopic exploration and resection revealed a cystic lesion with a thick wall and brownish fluid. Both frozen section and final histopathologica

Ruptured Parasitic Dermoid Cyst in Blunt Abdominal Trauma.

Ruptured parasitic dermoid cyst is one of the rare conditions that results from auto-amputation and re-implantation following torsion from the ovary and omentum, among other sites. Due to trauma to the abdomen, it may rupture, resulting in spillage of its contents and causing chemical peritonitis. The diagnosis is based on clinical presentation complimented by abdominal ultrasound in low resource settings. A case of a 44-year-old (Iraqw by tribe) who presented with clinical features of acute generalized abdominal pain and distension for two days following blunt abdominal trauma. The abdominal

Bronchogenic cyst with concurrent chronic suppurative bronchopneumonia in a 10-year-old German shepherd dog.

A 10-year-old spayed female German shepherd dog was transferred for acute respiratory distress and a bulla-like pulmonary lesion identified on referral radiographs. Computed tomography (CT) imaging identified a bronchiole from a dilated left cranial lobar bronchus terminating into a partially fluid-filled, cyst-like pulmonary lesion and surrounding multilobar pulmonary hyperattenuation. After failure of medical management, a left cranial lung lobectomy was done. Histopathology was consistent with a bronchogenic cyst and chronic, suppurative bronchopneumonia of the remaining parenchyma. Broncho

Ectopic expression of Cux1 is associated with reduced p27 expression and increased apoptosis during late stage cyst progression upon inactivation of Pkd1 in collecting ducts.

Polycystic kidney diseases (PKD) are inherited disorders characterized by fluid-filled cysts primarily in the kidneys. We previously reported differences between the expression of Cux1, p21, and p27 in the cpk and Pkd1 null mouse models of PKD. Embryonic lethality of Pkd1 null mice limits its study to early stages of kidney development. Therefore, we examined mice with a collecting duct specific deletion in the Pkd1 gene. Cux1 was ectopically expressed in the cyst lining epithelial cells of newborn, P7 and P15 Pkd1(CD) mice. Cux1 expression correlated with cell proliferation in early stages of

A rare case of large epididymal cyst in androgen insensitivity syndrome removed laparoscopically.

Androgen insensitivity syndrome is a disorder of sexual differentiation with 46XY karyotype. The gonad is at risk (33% by 50 years of age) for development of malignant tumors. Hence, gonadectomy is warranted. We present a case of a 22-year-old woman diagnosed with androgen insensitivity syndrome during investigation of primary amenorrhea. Ultrasonography showed intraabdominally-located gonads, with a large, nontender cyst of 9.2 x 5.6 x 5.4 cm size, with limited mobility, to the right of the midline. There was also a partial septum, with a wall thickness of 1 to 2 mm and containing clear fluid

[Treatment of a compressive bronchogenic cyst by computed tomography-guided needle aspiration].

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cysts are benign tumours of the posterior or middle mediastinum. Treatment usually consists of complete surgical resection. We report the case of an elderly woman presenting with an inoperable bronchogenic cyst causing tracheal compression which was treated successfully using computed-tomography (CT)-guided needle aspiration. CASE REPORT: A 92 years old woman was admitted for inspiratory dyspnoea associated with stridor. She reported the incidental discovery of a right paratracheal mass, 2 years previously. Thoracic CT scan and bronchoscopy revealed a large mediasti

Percutaneous aspiration-injection-reaspiration (PAIR) for the treatment of abdominal cysts: Initial report in sheep and goat.

Percutaneous aspiration-injection-reaspiration (PAIR), also called sclerotherapy, is a minimally invasive, inexpensive and safe technique for the treatment of abdominal cysts in humans. A study was planned to evaluate the feasibility of this procedure in the management of abdominal cysts in sheep and goat. Adult ewes (n = 5) and one doe (n = 1) found to have abdominal cysts (one cyst/animal) on repeated survey ultrasonography (USG) were included in the study. The animals were restrained in standing position. A hypodermic needle (G-18) securely attached to a 10-mL Dispovan syringe was carefully

Multiple epithelial cysts of the spleen and on the splenic capsule, and high serum levels of CA19-9, CA125 and soluble IL-2 receptor.

An 18-year-old woman with abdominal pain was diagnosed as having splenic cysts by computed tomography scan. She had high serum levels of CA19-9 (2886.8 U/mL; normal value, <35 U/mL), CA125 (131.1 U/mL; normal value, <35 U/mL) and soluble IL-2 receptor (1490 U/mL; normal range, 220-530 U/mL). The resected spleen weighed 1050 g, was 14 x 28 cm, and had more than 10 macroscopic cysts up to 10.3 x 9.5 cm. There were numerous microscopic cysts in the spleen and several on the splenic capsule. The levels of CA19-9 and CA125 in the cyst fluid were 2165550 U/mL and 160400 U/mL, respectively. After the…

Clinical evolution of cerebral coenurosis from invasive to chronic infection in sheep and a goat.

This survey describes the evolution in vivo of Coenurus cerebralis in small ruminants. At presentation, neurological signs and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) features were suggestive of multifocal or diffuse inflammatory reaction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) captured the transition between the invasive and quiescent phase of the infection, revealing the concurrent presence of meningitis and small cysts. During the quiescent phase, in all animals, neurological symptoms disappeared, and cerebrospinal fluid was unremarkable while cysts grew progressively. Subsequently, the onset of neurological s

The natural history of osteochondral lesions in the ankle.

Most osteochondral lesions (defects) of the talar dome are caused by trauma, which may be a single event or repeated, less intense events (microtrauma). A lesion may heal, remain asymptomatic, or progress to deep ankle pain on weight bearing, prolonged joint swelling, and the formation of subchondral bone cysts. During loading, compression of the cartilage forces water into the microfractured subchondral bone. The increased flow and pressure of fluid in the subchondral bone can cause osteolysis and the slow development of a subchondral cyst. The pain does not arise from the cartilage lesion bu

A rare aneurysmal bone cyst of the maxillary sinus: a case report.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a non-neoplastic expansile bone lesion that is common in the long bones; only 2% occurs in the head and neck. We present a case of ABC in a 23-year-old male and describe the clinical and radiological features, histopathology and treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated multiple internal septations, cysts with fluid-fluid levels of varying intensity, and an intact rim of low-intensity signal completely surrounding the lesion. The tumor was removed by enucleation with resection of the lateral nasal cavity. Histopathologic diagnosis was ABC and fibrou

The pathology of Cysticercus tenuicollis infection in goats.

The pathology of Cysticercus tenuicollis in goats was studied on Days 7, 15, 30 and 60 post-infection. The characteristic gross lesions on the 15th day of infection included accumulation of a large quantity of serofibrinous fluid in the peritoneal and thoracic cavities and a large number of small-sized cysts floating in the fluid of the peritoneal cavity. Large circular brown to red areas with alternate areas of haemorrhages also appeared on the liver surface and in the parenchyma due to migrating C. tenuicollis. The microscopic lesions in the liver included cyst-like channels with a mass of f

Encephalocraniocutaneous Lipomatosis Associated with Orbital Cyst: A Variant or New Entity?

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL), also known as Haberland or Fishman syndrome, is an extremely rare congenital neurocutaneous disorder that characteristically involves ectomesodermal tissues such as the central nervous system, eyes, and skin. The etiology of the disease remains unknown. Here we present a rare case of ECCL associated with bilateral eye involvement and orbital cyst from Sub-Saharan Africa. A 3-year-old boy presented with cystic right eye swelling since birth. Physical examination showed alopecia on right side of the scalp, ipsilateral ocular cyst, and microphthalmia w

A new heterozygous mutation of the FOXL2 gene is associated with a large ovarian cyst and ovarian dysfunction in an adolescent girl with blepharophimosis/ptosis/epicanthus inversus syndrome.

Blepharophimosis/ptosis/epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES), an autosomal dominant syndrome in which eyelid malformation is associated with (type I BPES) or without premature ovarian failure (type II BPES). Mutations of a putative winged helix/forkhead transcription factor FOXL2 account for both types of BPES. We report on a 16-year-old adolescent girl with blepharophimosis and ptosis. Subsequently she developed oligomenorrhea, secondary amenorrhea for 6 months, and an extremely large cyst of one ovary. The cyst contained 8 l of cyst fluid and histopathology displayed a large corpus luteum cys…
