OBJECTIVES: To describe prospectively the normal abdominal and pelvic ultrasound features within 24 h following uneventful Cesarean section.
METHODS: Transabdominal ultrasound examination was performed between 1 and 3 h, and again at 24 h, following lower-segment Cesarean section (LSCS). The myometrium, endometrium, and amount and distribution of free peritoneal fluid were studied in 30 women with singleton pregnancies who underwent LSCS delivery.

A 74-year-old woman developed capsule contraction associated with hypotony and choroidal effusion 18 months after uneventful phacoemulsification with 3-piece poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lens implantation. Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed ciliary body detachment and stretched zonules. A radial neodymium: YAG anterior capsulotomy was performed, resulting in the resolution of the ciliary body detachment and choroidal effusion as well as in normal intraocular pressure over 4 days.

Our objective was to study a cohort of women by various means to detect sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and to correlate the presence of mucopurulent exudate (PEX) on Papanicolaou (Pap) smears with pregnancy outcome. Bacteriologic cultures taken from swabs for chlamydia and gonorrhea were correlated with Gen-Probe results. The common preventive therapy in our department for newborns' eyes is tetracycline ophthalmic ointment. Due to temporary shortage of tetracycline ophthalmic ointment for one week in December 1991, the preventive therapy given to seventy-one newborns was gentamicin sulfate ophthalmic ointment. We compared the effects of an anti-ulcer agent, benexate hydrochloride betadex (BHB), on prostaglandin (PG) levels in gastric tissue and inflammatory exudate in untreated and indomethacin-treated rats. OBJECTIVE: To define the clinical, ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with painful snapping of the hip secondary to transient subluxation of the iliopsoas tendon.

We reviewed the charts of 15 patients having had an operative suprachoroidal expulsive hemorrhage (SEH) at least 5 years prior to the time of review. In all cases the eyes were glaucomatous. All SEH occurred in close association with the surgery, with 14 cases occurring at the time of surgery and 1 case developing within 2 days of the procedure. Three eyes were markedly worse following the SEH, losing six or more lines of vision; in all cases this loss was due to retinal detachment. The effect of anti-inflammatory drugs on cytokine production at local inflammatory sites was investigated in a carrageenin-induced rat pleurisy model. Exudate volume and leukocyte number in the pleural cavity at 3 h after the carrageenin injection were significantly reduced by the pretreatment with indomethacin or dexamethasone. Both drugs also reduced the prostaglandin E2 level in the exudate. However, production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-1 in the pleural exudate was significantly enhanced by the pretreatment with indomethacin, whereas the interleukin-6 level was reduced.
