Anti-inflammatory effects of gallic acid on chronic bacterial prostatitis: involving target tissue distribution.

Gallic acid (GA), also known as 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid, is a polyphenolic bioactive component in pomegranates, grapes, tea leaves, and gallnuts. This study employed LC-MS/MS to systematically analyze the pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution of GA in rats. Our findings demonstrated that GA accumulated most prominently in kidney and prostate tissues. Based on these targeted distribution characteristics, chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) was chosen as a target tissue inflammatory model to explore the anti-inflammatory effects of GA. The results showed that GA exerted a direct anti-infl

Intestinal microbiota in adults with cholangiocarcinoma identifies the dysregulated Blautia species and bile acid metabolic pathways.

BACKGROUND: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) represents a significant global health concern. The gut and bile microbiota, which can influence the gut-liver axis and disease progression, have not been thoroughly characterized in CCA patients. METHODS: We selected two clinical centers at our hospital and collected stool samples from CCA patients and healthy controls (HC). These samples underwent whole-genome metagenomic shotgun sequencing, followed by analysis using both marker gene-based and assembly-based methods. Additionally, KEGG pathway enrichment was performed using the cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL)

Nutritional Management of Patients with Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders.

Treatment of fatty acid oxidation disorders is based on dietary, pharmacological and metabolic decompensation measures. It is essential to provide the patient with sufficient glucose to prevent lipolysis and to avoid the use of fatty acids as fuel as far as possible. Dietary management consists of preventing periods of fasting and restricting fat intake by increasing carbohydrate intake, while maintaining an adequate and uninterrupted caloric intake. In long-chain deficits, long-chain triglyceride restriction should be 10% of total energy, with linoleic acid and linolenic acid intake of 3-4% a

Distinct skin microbiome modulation following different topical acne treatments in mild acne vulgaris patients: A randomized, investigator-blinded exploratory study.

The effects of topical non-antibiotic acne treatment on skin microbiota have rarely been demonstrated. In the study, we randomized 45 mild acne vulgaris participants into three treatment groups, including a cream-gel dermocosmetic containing Aqua Posae Filiformis, lipohydroxy acid, salicylic acid, linoleic acid, niacinamide and piroctone olamine (DC), retinoic acid 0.025% cream (VAA) and benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel (BP). At months 0, 1 and 3, skin specimens were swabbed from the cheek and forehead and sequenced by targeting V3-V4 regions of the 16 S rRNA gene. QIIME2 was used to characterize bac

Vaccenic acid suppresses intestinal inflammation by increasing anandamide and related N-acylethanolamines in the JCR:LA-cp rat.

Vaccenic acid (VA), the predominant ruminant-derivedtransfat in the food chain, ameliorates hyperlipidemia, yet mechanisms remain elusive. We investigated whether VA could influence tissue endocannabinoids (ECs) by altering the availability of their biosynthetic precursor, arachidonic acid (AA), in membrane phospholipids (PLs). JCR:LA-cprats were assigned to a control diet with or without VA (1% w/w),cis-9,trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) (1% w/w) or VA+CLA (1% + 0.5% w/w) for 8 weeks. VA reduced the EC, 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), in the liver and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) relat

Acylcarnitines in fibroblasts of patients with long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency and other fatty acid oxidation disorders.

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation disorders cause hypoglycaemia, hepatic dysfunction, myopathy, cardiomyopathy and encephalopathy. Despite their recognition for more than 15 years, diagnosis and treatment remain difficult. To help design rational diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, we studied the pathophysiology of accumulating metabolites in a whole-cell system. Acylcarnitines were quantified in cells and media of cultured fibroblasts after incubation with L-carnitine and fatty acids. Following incubation with palmitate, long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (LCHAD)-deficient fibrobl

Hyperlipidemia and reproductive failure in captive-reared alligators: vitamin E, vitamin A, plasma lipids, fatty acids, and steroid hormones.

Blood samples were collected from 26 captive-reared alligators (25 females; one male) and 12 (seven females and five males) wild "nuisance" alligators collected by wildlife personnel in south Louisiana in May 1995. The captive alligators, hatched from artificially incubated eggs in 1972-1973, had received vitamin E supplements during the 3 weeks before the blood sample was collected. Each sample was analyzed for vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), vitamin A (retinol), total lipid, triacylglycerol, phospholipid, cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, free fatty acids, steroid hormones and a standard clinica

Effect of fatty acids on bilirubin conjugation.

The effect of fatty acids on bilirubin conjugation has been studied. Unsaturated fatty acids containing 18 to 20 carbon atoms decreased the rate of conjugation in rat liver slices and microsomes, probably by inhibiting glucuronyl transferase. Since fatty acids may be an important source of energy for the young infant, the relation of these findings to breast milk jaundice is discussed.

Integrative network analysis revealed the molecular function of folic acid on immunological enhancement in a sheep model.

We previously observed the beneficial role of folic acid supplemented from maternal or offspring diet on lamb growth performance and immunity. Twenty-four Hu lambs from four groups (mother received folic acid or not, offspring received folic acid or not) were used in the current study, which was conducted consecutively to elucidate the molecular regulatory mechanisms of folic acid in lambs by analyzing blood metabolome, liver transcriptome, and muscle transcriptome. Serum metabolomics analysis showed that L-homocitrulline, hyodeoxycholic acid, 9-Hpode, palmitaldehyde, N-oleoyl glycine, hexadec

An integrated meta-analysis of peripheral blood metabolites and biological functions in major depressive disorder.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental illness, characterized by high morbidity, which has increased in recent decades. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying MDD remain unclear. Previous studies have identified altered metabolic profiles in peripheral tissues associated with MDD. Using curated metabolic characterization data from a large sample of MDD patients, we meta-analyzed the results of metabolites in peripheral blood. Pathway and network analyses were then performed to elucidate the biological themes within these altered metabolites. We identified 23 differentially e

Changes in Vitellogenin (Vg) and Stress Protein (HSP 70) in Honey Bee (Apis mellifera anatoliaca) Groups under Different Diets Linked with Physico-Chemical, Antioxidant and Fatty and Amino Acid Profiles.

Honey bee colonies are often subjected to diseases, nutrition quality, temperature and other stresses depending on environmental and climatic conditions. As a result of malnutrition, the level of Vg protein decreases, leading to overwintering losses. The Vg values must be high for a successful wintering, especially before wintering. If good nutrition is not reached, the long winter period may cause an increase in colony losses. Supplementary feeding is essential for colony sustainability when floral resources are insufficient, as in recent years with the emerging climate changes. Furthermore,

Dietary Intake and Serum Selenium Levels Influence the Outcome of HTLV-1 Infection.

Human T cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1)-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), as the most common neurological emersion related to HTLV-1, is a debilitating and lifelong treating disease with no definitive treatment. Furthermore, it has been determined that dietary compositions (inflammatory and anti-inflammatory) and some micronutrients (such as vitamin D and selenium) have an effect on inflammatory and immune processes and with this background; the study was done to compare the nutritional status between age- and sex-matched with infected and non-infected HTLV-1. Barrier function regulates epidermal lipid and DNA synthesis.

The stratum corneum, the permeability barrier between the internal milieu and the environment, is composed of fibrous protein-enriched corneocytes and a lipid-enriched intercellular matrix. The lipids are a mixture of sphingolipids, cholesterol and free fatty acids, which form intercellular membrane bilayers. Lipid synthesis occurs in the keratinocytes in all nucleated layers of the epidermis, and the newly synthesized lipids are delivered by lamellar bodies to the interstices of the stratum corneum during epidermal differentiation. Disruption of barrier function by topical acetone treatment r

Sensitivity of tumour cells to heat and ways of modifying the response.

In our view, the initial effect of hyperthermia on cells is the disorganization of the membrane lipid. Such disorganization alters the membrane's biophysical properties leading to passive changes in transmembrane permeability, shifts in surface charge, and altered stereoorganization of macromolecules associated with the membrane. For example, the passive permeability changes could account for the observed increase in the association of non-histone proteins to chromatin. Surface charge changes resulting from relative changes in the phospholipids could shift the concentration and types of membra
