Vision-Language Models for automated quality control: a benchmarking framework and comprehensive study.

Automated object detection systems require robust quality assessment mechanisms to maintain performance when deployed in environments that deviate from training distributions. While traditional monitoring relies on statistical drift detection, these approaches lack semantic understanding necessary for triggering appropriate model adaptations. This paper presents the first comprehensive benchmarking of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for semantic-level quality assessment of multi-domain object detection outputs. We systematically evaluate nine state-of-the-art VLM models across five diverse domai

Normative human brain volume growth.

OBJECTIVE While there is a long history of interest in measuring brain growth, as of yet there is no definitive model for normative human brain volume growth. The goal of this study was to analyze a variety of candidate models for such growth and select the model that provides the most statistically applicable fit. The authors sought to optimize clinically applicable growth charts that would facilitate improved treatment and predictive management for conditions such as hydrocephalus. METHODS The Weibull, two-term power law, West ontogenic, and Gompertz models were chosen as potential models. N

Statistical approaches in the development of clinical practice guidelines from expert panels: the case of laminectomy in sciatica patients.

BACKGROUND: Variation in expert opinion and lack of a systematic methodology hinder the development of reliable clinical practice guidelines. However standardized protocols have been defined to quantify, combine, and summarize expert judgments. In addition, statistical methods may help to outline guidelines based on simplified models of these judgments. METHODS: To test this hypothesis, stepwise logistic regression (SLR) and classification tree pruning (CTP) were used to predict the results of two expert panels (USA 1992 and Switzerland 1995) on laminectomy in sciatica conditions. Both panels

The relative risk of spatial cluster occurrence and spatiotemporal evolution of meningococcal disease in Niger, 2002-2008.

Meningococcal disease is a major public health concern in Sahelian Africa, where over half of the cases reported worldwide occur. In an effort to find annual spatial clusters of meningococcal disease and in order to study their evolution in Niger from January 2002 to June 2008, a prospective study of routine national surveillance data was conducted pertaining to patients with suspected bacterial meningitis. The diagnoses were obtained by analysing patients' cerebrospinal fluid, using polymerase chain reaction or bacteriology. SatScan using Poisson's model was used to calculate the relative ris

Metabolic profiles of dystrophin and utrophin expression in mouse models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Metabolic profiles from (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy have been used to describe both one and two protein systems in four mouse models related to Duchenne muscular dystrophy using the pattern recognition technique partial least squares. Robust statistical models were built for extracts and intact cardiac tissue, distinguishing mice according to expression of dystrophin. Using metabolic profiles of diaphragm, models were built describing dystrophin and utrophin, a dystrophin related protein, expression. Increased utrophin expression counteracted some of the deficits associated wi

Comparison of time-series models for predicting physiological metrics under sedation.

This study presents a comprehensive comparison of multiple time-series models applied to physiological metric predictions. It aims to explore the effectiveness of both statistical prediction models and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic prediction model and modern deep learning approaches. Specifically, the study focuses on predicting the bispectral index (BIS), a vital metric in anesthesia used to assess the depth of sedation during surgery, using datasets collected from real-life surgeries. The goal is to evaluate and compare model performance considering both univariate and multivariate scheme

Generalized pairwise comparison methods to analyze (non)prioritized composite endpoints.

In the analysis of composite endpoints in a clinical trial, time to first event analysis techniques such as the logrank test and Cox proportional hazard test do not take into account the multiplicity, importance, and the severity of events in the composite endpoint. Several generalized pairwise comparison analysis methods have been described recently that do allow to take these aspects into account. These methods have the additional benefit that all types of outcomes can be included, such as longitudinal quantitative outcomes, to evaluate the full treatment effect. Four of the generalized pair

Testing for associations with missing high-dimensional categorical covariates.

Understanding how long-term clinical outcomes relate to short-term response to therapy is an important topic of research with a variety of applications. In HIV, early measures of viral RNA levels are known to be a strong prognostic indicator of future viral load response. However, mutations observed in the high-dimensional viral genotype at an early time point may change this prognosis. Unfortunately, some subjects may not have a viral genetic sequence measured at the early time point, and the sequence may be missing for reasons related to the outcome. Complete-case analyses of missing data ar

Standardized estimates from categorical regression models.

We consider the problem of interpreting categorical regression models, such as the polytomous logistic model, the continuation-ratio model, the stereotype model, and the cumulative-odds model. We present a method to convert categorical regression coefficients into estimates of standardized fitted probabilities, probability differences and probability ratios. We use a delta-method approach to estimate standard errors. We then present a small simulation study to compare different transforms for setting confidence limits, and provide an illustration of our approach in an observational study of dr

Association between the interleukin 17F rs763780 polymorphism and immune thrombocytopenia risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The literature on the Interleukin 17F (IL-17F) rs763780 polymorphism and its association with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) risk remains inconsistent and controversial. These uncertainties underscore the urgent need for a meta-analysis to objectively synthesize the heterogeneous findings, mitigate bias, and improve statistical power. This study strictly adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement and guidelines. A systematic literature search for original studies was conducted across the CNKI, Wanfang Data, Cochrane Library, Web of Scien

Evaluation of a multiphasic parasite clearance profile after treatment of experimental human infection with the investigational anti-malarial M5717 using segmented mixed effect models.

BACKGROUND: Evaluation of parasite clearance patterns in experimental human infection trials helps increase understanding of drug action. In a previously reported phase Ib trial of a new investigational anti-malarial drug M5717, parasite clearance showed a biphasic linear pattern: slow removal phase with a near flat clearance rate followed by a fast clearance phase with a steep slope. In this study three statistical approaches were implemented and compared to estimate the parasite clearance rate for each phase and the time point corresponding to the change of clearance rates (changepoint betwe

Predicting macrosomia and low birth weight with interpretable machine learning.

Abnormal birth weight, including macrosomia and low birth weight, constitutes a significant global health burden associated with both immediate neonatal risks and long-term metabolic complications. However, accurate prediction remains challenging due to fragmented clinical indicators and a lack of model interpretability, limitations often inherent in traditional statistical approaches that struggle with complex, high-dimensional data. This study developed interpretable machine learning models that integrate multifaceted maternal and fetal characteristics to enhance prediction accuracy and faci

Novel atlas of fiber directions built from ex-vivo diffusion tensor images of porcine hearts.

Cardiac MR image-based predictive models integrating statistical atlases of heart anatomy and fiber orientations can aid in better diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, a major cause of death worldwide. Such atlases have been built from diffusion tensor (DT) images and can be used in anisotropic models for personalized computational electro-mechanical simulations when the fiber directions from DTI are not available. In this paper, we propose a framework for building the first statistical fiber atlas from high-resolution ex-vivo DT images of porcine hearts. A mean geometry that represents the av

Predicting adverse drug reactions through interpretable deep learning framework.

BACKGROUND: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are unintended and harmful reactions caused by normal uses of drugs. Predicting and preventing ADRs in the early stage of the drug development pipeline can help to enhance drug safety and reduce financial costs. METHODS: In this paper, we developed machine learning models including a deep learning framework which can simultaneously predict ADRs and identify the molecular substructures associated with those ADRs without defining the substructures a-priori. RESULTS: We evaluated the performance of our model with ten different state-of-the-art fingerpri

Macro- and mesomorphology of frontal sinuses in humans: noisiness models relating to their ontogeny.

The debate about the role of the frontal sinuses remains unresolved. In this paper, I explore several statistical and fractal features of the frontal sinus outlines in order to better assess the spatial models of supraorbital torus formation. Although the analyses are restricted to a suite of techniques dealing with two-dimensional projections of the frontal sinuses, here I report many features that explain why it is so difficult to describe the spatial models. I show how the outline circumference scales with enclosed area, how the fractal dimensions of the outlines are distributed, how the me
