BACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in domestic cattle is an economically significant malignant neoplasm and has been documented primarily in ocular and periocular tissues, vulva, and perineum. SCCs are often slow-growing and locally invasive, but metastasis is uncommon. Increased risk of developing SCC has been predominantly associated with high levels of sunlight exposure and hypopigmentation (skin and conjunctiva). Esophageal cancer (ESCA) is the seventh most frequent and deadly neoplasm. Due to the lack of early diagnosis and high invasion/metastasis, the prognosis of ESCA remains very poor. OBJECTIVES: We report an unusual case of undifferentiated carcinoma in situ with osteoclast-like giant cells (UC with OGCs) in a 68-year-old Japanese woman.
METHODS: Preoperative examinations revealed an unidentifiable mass lesion within the main pancreatic duct (MPD) in the pancreatic head, accompanied by a dilated MPD distal to the mass lesion, which was suspected to be an intraductal papillary-mucinous neoplasm of the main-duct type with acute pancreatitis because of an increased serum amylase level.
