A novel and efficient oxygenation approach to trisubstituted oxazoles via a copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative annulation of amines, alkynes, and O2 has been developed. This transformation combines dioxygen activation and oxidative C-H bond functionalization and provides a practical protocol for the preparation of oxazole derivatives, which are privileged units found in various bioactive compounds or other natural products. 18O-labeling experiments were conducted to reveal that oxygenation was involved in this chemistry.

The aging midface has long been overlooked in cosmetic surgery. Our understanding of facial aging in terms of 3 dimensions has placed increased importance on volume restoration. Although an "off-label" indication for most fillers in this facial region, volumization of the midface with injectable fillers is usually a safe and straightforward procedure technically. Injectors, nevertheless, need to have an excellent understanding of facial anatomy and the characteristics of the injected products should problems arise.

Small pieces of jejunum with an intact blood supply were explanted to the anterior abdominal wall in rats. Six weeks after explantation the mucosa appeared totally flat in many areas, both histologically and under the dissecting microscope. The structure of the flattened mucosa was shown to be identical to that in coeliac disease with hypertrophied intervillous ridges. A dynamic study with tritium-labelled thymidine demonstrated a considerably increased turnover in the flat mucosa with some disorganization of cell production and migration.

Oxidation of D-glucose-C(14) by bovine thyroid slices was stimulated by cysteine, 2-aminoethanethiol, and cystamine. Amino acids tested, other than cysteine, were not stimulatory, except tyrosine and arginine to a slight degree. The pattern of stimulation resembled that brought about by thyroid-stimulating hormone. Stimulation of labeled CO(2) production was greater when glucose-1-C(14) rather than glucose-6-C(14) was the substrate.

Lactose intolerance is common, so accurate detection of lactose in supplements and pharmaceuticals is critical. We validated an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (U-HPLC-MS/MS) method with high sensitivity and specificity for trace lactose in products labeled "lactose-free." Fate and proliferation of gastric mucosal cells during hyperplasia of Taenia taeniaeformis eggs inoculated Wistar rats were investigated using PCNA immunohistochemistry, BrdU labeling and other histopathologic staining techniques. Results revealed marked cell proliferation in gastric corpus and antral mucosa of infected rats as evidenced by increased lengths of proliferative zones and indices of BrdU labeling. The gastropathy in corpus was characterized by massive accumulation of precursors, neck and intermediate cells following significant decreases in numbers of parietal and zymogenic cells.

Presented is the analysis of four cannabinoid-based products. These products were part of a case involving visual and auditory hallucinations that precipitated the commission of a felony and subsequent arrest. The products were labeled to contain ∆8-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆8-THC) or THC acetate (THC-O-A). Primary reference materials were not available for ∆8-THC-O-A, ∆10-THC-O-A, cannabidiol di-acetate (CBD-di-O-A) or respective deuterated internal standards.
