The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a 4-week balance training program on specified functional tasks. Thirty-six subjects (age = 22.7 +/- 2.10 years; height = 168.30 +/- 9.55 cm; weight = 71.15 +/- 16.40 kg) were randomly placed into control (C; n = 19) and experimental groups (Tx; n = 17). The Tx group trained using a commercially available balance training device (BOSU). Postural limits (displacement and sway) and functional task (time on ball, shuttle run, and vertical jump) were assessed during a pretest (T1), a posttest (T2), and 2 weeks posttraining (T3). Nondissociative carpal instability is instability of an entire carpal row and can lead to vague ulnar-sided wrist pain as well as a clunking wrist. The etiology of this process is most often generalized ligamentous laxity; however, it can infrequently occur as a result of trauma or malalignment of the radiocarpal joint. Whereas treatment remains controversial, the literature supports nonsurgical management and includes patient education, dynamic placement of orthoses, proprioceptive therapy, and extensor carpi ulnaris strengthening. If extensive nonsurgical therapy fails, surgical intervention

Thallotoxicosis is described in an adult Pit Bull Terrier. The dog exhibited anorexia, emesis, weakness, conscious proprioceptive deficits, and a hemorrhagic diarrhea before death. A severe, acute necrotizing enterocolitis was evident upon histological examination, as was a multifocal to coalescing pulmonary edema. Liver and kidney thallium concentrations were 18 and 26 ppm, respectively. The source of the thallium was determined to be thallium sulfate obtained by a person with the intent to harm family members. Although thallium has not been produced in the United States for 20 years, this re

Women's soccer participation is becoming a trend in sport. With increasing number of licensed female soccer players, there is also an increase in sport specific injuries. This fact has socioeconomic importance. The larger pelvic bone leading to an increased internal rotation of the femur, the narrower intercondylar notch as well as the unfavorable strength ratio of the hamstrings vs. the quadriceps muscle lead to an increased risk for injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament in female soccer.Several studies showed that intervention programs based on neuromuscular or proprioceptive training o

Sensory-motor integration requires proper connectivity of interneurons within the central nervous system (CNS). Unique interneuron identity, defined by a collection of features that includes expression of transcription factors (TFs; molecular identity) and connectivity, is essential for proper circuit assembly. In Drosophila and mammals, interneuron identity is generated by sequential expression of a temporal transcription factor (TTF) cascade in progenitors which is then transiently maintained in post-mitotic progeny. In Drosophila, neural progenitors (neuroblasts; NBs) sequentially express t

Artificial somatosensory feedback plays a crucial role in compensating for tactile and proprioceptive loss in prosthesis users. Although modern prosthetic systems can acquire rich sensory data, effectively conveying this multimodal information to the user remains a significant challenge. This study presents a wearable somatosensory feedback armband with two configurations: a multimodal version using combined vibrotactile-electrotactile (VEC) stimulation, and a unimodal version based on vibrotactile-only (VO) stimulation. In both configurations, proprioceptive feedback is conveyed via spatiotem

Kinesio taping is widely used as a non-pharmacological adjunct in knee osteoarthritis (OA), although its mechanisms and clinical value remain debated. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on kinesio taping in knee OA, addressing mechanisms and effects on pain, function, muscle activation, proprioception, and range of motion (ROM). PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and Google Scholar were searched through 19 May 2026 using MeSH terms "Osteoarthritis, Knee" and "Athletic Tape" with related keywords. Eligible sources included systemati…

Background and Clinical Significance: Alien hand syndrome (AHS) is a rare disorder of agency and complex motor control characterized by involuntary, apparently purposeful limb movements experienced as outside voluntary control. Pontine hemorrhage is an uncommon substrate, and its manifestations may overlap with sensory ataxia and other post-stroke movement disorders. Case Presentation: An 86-year-old right-handed man developed right-sided alien hand phenomena after a left pontine hemorrhage. Examination showed dysarthria, limited left gaze, diplopia, preserved muscle strength, marked right-sid

Spinal cord injury (SCI) patients experience long-term deficits in motor and sensory functions. While brain-machine interface (BMI) has shown great promise for restoring neurological functions after SCI, spinal cord-machine interface (SCMI) offers unique advantages, such as more defined somatotopy and the compact organization of neural elements in the spinal cord. In the current study, we aim to demonstrate the feasibility of sensing and evoking compound action potentials (CAPs) via electrode implantation in spinal cord axonal bundles, an essential prerequisite for advancing SCMI development.

BACKGROUND: Sensorimotor dysfunction following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and subsequent ACL reconstruction (ACLR) may lead to errors in motor planning and execution. Dysfunction occurs even after athletes have completed rehabilitation. Therefore, clinicians need to implement strategies to improve how sensorimotor dysfunction is addressed during rehabilitation. CLINICAL QUESTION: How can clinicians improve their rehabilitation of sensorimotor dysfunction following ACLR? The aim of this clinical commentary is to review methods that may improve rehabilitation by targeting sensorimot

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has emerged as a therapeutic tool for improving motor function following spinal cord injury. While many studies focus on restoring locomotion, little attention is paid to enabling standing which is a prerequisite of walking. In this study, we fully characterize a new type of response to SCS, a long extension activated post-stimulation (LEAP). LEAP is primarily directed to ankle extensors and hence has great clinical potential to assist postural movements. To characterize this new response, we used the decerebrate cat model to avoid the suppressive effects of anest

BACKGROUND: The Sit-to-Stand (STS) transition is one of the most used activities of daily living and vital for independence. Neurological, or physical injuries impairing functional mobility or sensory feedback often require rehabilitative programs or therapeutic interventions. Understanding the biomechanical elements of daily movements and the interaction between these elements may help inform rehabilitation protocols and optimize targeted interventions, such as stimulation protocols.
