Oxidative stress biomarkers in assisted reproductive technologies: From follicular redox biology to clinical translation.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are important regulators within the ovarian follicle microenvironment and are increasingly recognized as mediators of impaired oocyte competence in assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Beyond established factors such as aging, metabolic imbalance, and environmental exposures, redox dysregulation within the follicle may contribute to variability in ART outcomes that is not explained by conventional morphological assessment. ROS are generated across multiple subcellular compartments, including mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, plasma membrane, and

From reproductive violence to empowerment: reconquering power in assisted reproduction - a qualitative study.

People who use medically assisted reproduction (MAR) outside the legal and/or medical framework are generally on the margins of the dominant procreative norm, making them particularly vulnerable to a wide range of reproductive violence such as legal restriction to medical care, discrimination or mistreatment. The aim of this study was to explore experiences of reproductive violence among people living in France who sought MAR either abroad or without medical assistance. Semi-structured interviews were conducted between 2022 and 2023. Almost half of the interviewees (n = 28/69) had been confron

Metabolic imaging for gamete and embryo assessment through advanced microscopy technologies: a novel avenue for artificial intelligence?

Infertility affects approximately one in six people globally and demand for ARTs, is expected to rise as parenthood is increasingly delayed. However, ART success remains constrained by gamete and embryo quality, female age, and biological factors beyond chromosomal status alone, highlighting the need for non-invasive methods that can complement current morphology-based and genetic approaches. Because gamete and embryo developmental competence is tightly coupled to cellular metabolism, label-free metabolic imaging has emerged as a promising strategy to assess developmental potential through end

Changes in Diagnostic Methods, Criteria, and Treatment for Chronic Endometritis After National Health Insurance Coverage of Assisted Reproductive Technology in Japan: A Nationwide Follow-up Survey (IZANAMI Project).

AIM: To evaluate how diagnostic methods, criteria, and treatment for chronic endometritis (CE) changed in Japan after introducing health insurance coverage of assisted reproductive technology (ART). METHODS: We conducted two nationwide, web-based facility surveys targeting all 616 registered ART facilities. The surveys were administered before ART insurance coverage (December 2021 to February 2022) and after coverage (December 2023 to January 2024). Facilities that responded to both surveys (283 facilities) were included. We evaluated whether facility-level CE diagnostic methods, CD138-positi

Congenital anomalies observed in children conceived through assisted reproductive technology-a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Congenital anomalies (CAs) are a leading cause of perinatal and child mortality. With the increasing use of assisted reproductive technology (ART), there is a growing need for research on the health outcomes of children conceived through ART. This systematic review was performed to assess the incidence of CAs in ART-conceived children compared to those conceived naturally. This review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was registered with PROSPERO. A total of 113 studies were included in this meta-analysis, comprising 768,929 children in the ART group and 40,709,337 children in the contro

Association between PM2.5 components and poor ovarian response in assisted reproductive technology patients: A retrospective cohort study identifying sensitive exposure windows in China.

Environmental factors, particularly various components of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) (i.e., sulfate [SO42-], nitrate [NO3-], ammonium [NH4+], organic matter [OM] and black carbon [BC]), are increasingly recognized as potential risk factors for poor ovarian response (POR) in fertility treatments. However, existing research is limited, and the critical periods of vulnerability to exposure to PM2.5 and its components remain unclear. In this retrospective cohort study, we included 38,619 patients undergoing their first in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) tr

Infertility: Disparities and Access to Services: ACOG Committee Statement No. 14.

Diagnostic testing and treatment for infertility should be available to everyone in need of these services. The disparities in rates of infertility and the barriers to accessing assisted reproductive technology services should be understood through and addressed within a reproductive justice framework. Obstetrician-gynecologists and other health care professionals should identify specific populations at risk and their accompanying barriers to access to help improve infertility care across populations. Health care professionals should ask appropriate questions about social and structural driver

The presence, clarity, and consistency of definitions in pregnancy outcomes in infertility trials: a systematic review.

STUDY QUESTION: How frequently do infertility trials report live birth and pregnancy, and how consistently were their definitions reported? SUMMARY ANSWER: One-third of 1425 infertility trials published in the last decade reported live birth, with one in eight reporting clinical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy, and live birth concurrently; absent, ambiguous, or heterogeneous definitions were common. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Absent or inconsistent outcome definitions in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) limit their interpretation and complicate subsequent evidence synthesis. While reporting live

Novel perspectives on growth hormone regulation of ovarian function: mechanisms, formulations, and therapeutic applications.

Delayed childbearing has led to a continuous rise in the incidence of infertility because of social development and the evolving roles of women. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has provided new opportunities for infertility treatment, such as the application of growth hormone (GH). GH regulates ovarian function through multiple pathways, improving follicular development and hormone secretion. However, traditional GH therapy is limited by issues such as low bioavailability and insufficient delivery efficiency. In recent years, drug delivery systems based on novel biomaterials have provid

The role of growth hormone in assisted reproductive technology for patients with diminished ovarian reserve: from signaling pathways to clinical applications.

Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) is a complex etiology disease that significantly impacts female fertility, endocrine function, and overall health status. In recent years, the incidence of DOR has been increasing, yet therapeutic methods remain relatively limited, particularly for patients with reproductive needs who often require Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatments. Growth Hormone (GH), a peptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary, promotes growth in bones, viscera, and multiple organs and systems throughout the body, enhances protein synthesis, and influences fat and mi
