Endodontic Treatment Outcome of 45 Incisor Teeth in Dogs Determined by Intraoral Radiography.

A retrospective study was conducted to determine the outcome of endodontic treatment of incisor teeth in dogs. Medical and dental records from four private veterinary specialty practices over an 8-year period (2013-2021) were reviewed. Forty-five incisor teeth from 41 dogs with ages from 1 to 11-years-old were included in the study. The indications for endodontic treatment were complicated crown fracture in 23 incisors (51.1%), non-vital tooth in 15 incisors (33.3%) and complicated crown-root fracture in seven incisors (15.5%). Evaluation criteria included availability of complete medical and

Comparison of reconstructed rapid prototyping models produced by 3-dimensional printing and conventional stone models with different degrees of crowding.

INTRODUCTION: Rapid prototyping models can be reconstructed from stereolithographic digital study model data to produce hard-copy casts. In this study, we aimed to compare agreement and accuracy of measurements made with rapid prototyping and stone models for different degrees of crowding. METHODS: The Z Printer 450 (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC) reprinted 10 sets of models for each category of crowding (mild, moderate, and severe) scanned using a structured-light scanner (Maestro 3D, AGE Solutions, Pisa, Italy). Stone and RP models were measured using digital calipers for tooth sizes in the mes

Improvement in Oral Health-related Quality of Life by Periodontal Treatment: A Case Report on Elderly Patient with Chronic Periodontitis.

We report a case of an elderly patient with chronic periodontitis requiring periodontal surgery. An 86-year-old man presented to Tokyo Dental College Suidobashi Hospital with the chief complaint of tooth fracture in the anterior region and occlusal pain in the posterior region. Clinical examination revealed 47% of sites with a probing depth (PD) of ≥4 mm and 47% of sites with bleeding on probing. Radiographic examination revealed generalized moderate horizontal bone loss with localized vertical defects. A clinical diagnosis of moderate chronic periodontitis was made. The patient's oral health-

Inflammatory root resorption in primary molars: prevalence and associated factors.

This study aimed at determining the prevalence of inflammatory root resorption and associated factors in 1068 primary mandibular molars in 453 children 3 to 12 years of age. Age, dental history and medical history were recorded using a questionnaire administered to the children's parents/caregivers. Previously trained and calibrated examiners assessed radiographic images of the primary molars by direct observation, with the aid of a viewing box. Root resorption (physiological or inflammatory), dental crown status (healthy, carious with no pulp involvement, carious with pulp involvement and evi

Traumatic injuries to permanent incisors: a case report.

A case report involving traumatized maxillary incisors is presented. The right central and lateral incisors were avulsed by direct trauma and were not found. The left central incisor was luxated and the left lateral incisor was fractured at the coronal portion. Placement of implant fixtures was selected as treatment to prevent resorption of alveolar bone and to maintain the integrity of intact adjacent teeth. The right incisors were replaced with two osseointegrated implants. The left central incisor was endodontically treated and a cast post and core was bonded into the root canal. All three

Coeliac-type dental enamel defects in patients with dermatitis herpetiformis.

The teeth of 30 adult patients with dermatitis herpetiformis and 66 sex- and age-matched healthy controls were examined for dental enamel defects. Sixteen of the patients (53%) with dermatitis herpetiformis, opposed to only one (2%) of the healthy controls (p less than 0.001), were found to have coeliactype permanent-tooth enamel defects. The grades of these defects were milder than those described for severe coeliac disease. There was no correlation between the degree of enamel defects and jejunal villous atrophy. The present finding of frequent coeliactype dental enamel defects in adults wit

Comparative study on the effects of different polishing methods on tooth surface microstructure and roughness following initial periodontal treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of different polishing methods on the surface microstructure and roughness of teeth following initial periodontal treatment. METHODS: Teeth were divided into three groups (silica onegloss, polishing disc, and polishing strip) in vitro. Tooth surface microstructure was characterized via scanning electron microscopy. Roughness was measured by profilometry and laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). According to the in vitro results, one group was chosen for further clinical trials. Effects of the chosen polishing method on patient plaque control and sati

Dentigerous cyst associated with an ectopic third molar in the maxillary sinus: A case report and review of literature.

Dentigerous cysts are the most common type of developmental odontogenic cysts arising from the crowns of impacted, embedded, or unerupted teeth. They constitute about 20% of all epithelium-lined cysts of the jaws. The teeth involved most often are mandibular third molar and maxillary canines. About 70% of dentigerous cysts occur in the mandible and 30% in the maxilla. Dentigerous cysts associated with ectopic teeth within the maxillary sinus are fairly rare, and only 20 cases had been reported in Medline since 1980. In the present paper, we report an additional case of dentigerous cysts associ

Lingual orthodontics and forced eruption: a means for osseous and tissue regeneration.

An hopeless upper central incisor was subjected to forced eruption in order to improve and develop the implant site by distraction of the periodontal ligament-alveolar bone complex. The orthodontic extrusion was carried out with two aesthetic approaches: lingual orthodontics and a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic. The first part of the extrusion was realized with lingual orthodontics alone, then, when the crown had been remodelled in its greatest part and the aesthetics was no more acceptable to the patient a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic was bonded to the vestibular side of the other thr

Subjective sensation and objective neural discharges recorded from clinically nonvital and intact teeth.

The aim of this study was to compare subjective sensation with objective neural discharges recorded by microneurography. We examined human teeth that did not respond to pulp vitality testing, but that responded to cavity preparation for endodontic treatment (pathophysiological). Intact teeth and endodontically obturated teeth were used as controls. Pulpal blood flow in the clinical crown and histological examination were also used. Most teeth, both in normal and pathophysiological conditions, did not respond to all pulp vitality tests. Even when teeth in the pathophysiological group showed spi

Replacement of hopeless retained primary teeth by immediate dental implants: a case report.

Hopeless retained primary teeth without permanent successors represent a restorative challenge for clinicians, along with esthetic and functional problems for patients. While various treatment approaches for congenitally missing teeth have been proposed, the replacement of a missing tooth with a dental implant offers specific advantages, such as preservation of the alveolar crest and elimination of the need to restore the adjacent teeth, over other options for tooth replacement. The aim of this article was to illustrate the surgical and prosthetic treatment with implants of a patient with prim

An Evaluation of the Relationship between Condylar Guidance, Occlusal Plane Orientation, Cuspal Inclination, and Compensatory Curves in Permanent Dentition.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the relationship between condylar guidance (CG), occlusal plane orientation, cuspal inclination, and compensatory curves in natural dentition is important in orthodontics for ensuring post-treatment stability and managing temporomandibular joint disorders. Therefore, the study's objective is to assess the relationship between the compensatory curve in natural dentition, the inclination of functional cusps and occlusal plane, and CG. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Condylar guidance, occlusal plane and cuspal inclination, and the compensating curve were measured in 56 pretreat

Dental management of intraoral vascular malformation in a 3.5-year-old child: case report and brief review.

BACKGROUND: Congenital vascular malformations in the oral and maxillofacial region present significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in pediatric patients. These lesions-most commonly low-flow venous malformations-can compromise oral function, aesthetics, and routine dental care due to their vascular nature and bleeding risk. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 3.5-year-old girl with a congenital vascular malformation involving the left cheek, upper lip, vestibule, hard palate, soft palate, and anterior maxilla. The lesion was present at birth and gradually enlarg

Hall technique versus conventional preformed metal crowns: can paediatric dentists tell the difference on radiographs?

PURPOSE: Hall technique (HT) preformed metal crowns (PMCs) are allegedly oversized compared to conventional (C) PMCs. To investigate paediatric dentists' (PDs) perception of HT-PMCs and perception/ability to identify HT or C-PMCs on bitewings radiographs. METHODS: An online cross-sectional questionnaire including ten bitewings (five of each of HT/CPMCs) was sent to PDs across the globe. A PMC type score (from '10') was calculated. T test, Pearson's and Fischer's Chi-square, and Odd Ratios (OR) (p < 0.05). RESULTS: A total of 476 PDs from around the world responded. Most (97%) used PMCs in th

Radiological Evaluation of Stainless Steel Crowns Placed on Permanent Teeth in Patients Treated under General Anaesthesia.

Evidence-based evaluations of dental treatment are needed to support the development of special care dentistry services. This retrospective study was designed to collect and analyse X-ray images of permanent teeth restored with stainless steel crowns (SSC) in patients treated under general anaesthesia. Between 2013 and 2019, 360 permanent molars were crowned with SSCs in 198 adult patients. One calibrated investigator used an original validated tool to evaluate four radiographic criteria for molars restored with SSCs: (i) marginal adaptation; (ii) interdental proximal contact; (iii) the presen

Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis and its relationship to overall tooth size.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor has been linked to differences in the size of the remaining teeth. Thus, the mesiodistal space required for definitive esthetic restoration in patients with missing maxillary lateral incisors may be reduced. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a tooth size discrepancy exists in orthodontic patients with agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty sets of dental casts from orthodontic patients (19 men and 21 women; mean 15.9 years of age; all of European origin) were col
