Sexual risk behaviors by people living with HIV (PLHIV) can result in secondary HIV transmission and other health problems. Given the dearth … ir younger counterparts, who were ≥ 50 years of age were more likely to have multiple partners, use condoms inconsistently, and use condoms less than before HIV diagnosis. BACKGROUND: Many women living with HIV experience gendered power inequalities, particularly in their intimate relationships, that prevent them from achieving optimal sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and exercising their rights. We assessed the effectiveness of interventions to improve self-efficacy and empowerment of women living with HIV to make SRH decisions through a systematic review.
METHODS AND FINDINGS: We included peer-reviewed articles indexed in PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Embase, and Scopus published through January 3, 2017, presenting multi-arm or pre-post intervention evaluatio

Objective: To explore the HIV epidemic and related factors among MSM in Jilin province. Methods: During the implementation of sentinel surveillance program from 2010 to 2015, continuous cross-sectional studies were conducted to monitor the awareness of AIDS, sexual behavior, HIV and syphilis positive rates, with the sample size no less than 400 in each surveillance site. Results: From 2010 to 2015, a total of 7 823 MSM were involved in this study. The overall HIV prevalence among MSM was 5.4% (42/7 823), with an increasing trend during 2010 and 2015 (Trend test χ(2)=110.023, P<0.001). The rate

INTRODUCTION: Without effective, scalable interventions, we will fail to achieve the Global AIDS Targets of zero AIDS-related deaths, zero HIV transmission and zero discrimination. This study examines associations of social protection and food security among adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV), with three Global AIDS Targets aligned outcomes: antiretroviral treatment (ART) adherence and viral suppression, HIV transmission risk behaviour and enacted stigma.
METHODS: We conducted three study visits over 2014-2018 with 1046 ALHIV in South Africa's Eastern Cape province. Standardized surveys prov

INTRODUCTION: Black women are at disproportionately greater risk for HIV and sexually transmitted infections than women of other ethnic/racial backgrounds. Alcohol use may further elevate the risk of HIV/sexually transmitted infection acquisition and transmission.
STUDY DESIGN: A random-assignment parallel-group comparative treatment efficacy trial was conducted with random assignment to 1 of 3 conditions.
SETTING/PARTICIPANTS: The sample comprised 560 Black or African American women aged 18-24 years who reported recent unprotected vaginal or anal sex and recent alcohol use. Participants wer

The aim of this study was to evaluate self-reported syphilis and associated factors in sexually active young adults (16-25 years old) in the Public Health System in Brazil. This was a cross-sectional study with 8071 participants recruited from 119 primary care units. Of these, 224 (2.86%, 95% CI 2.29-3.43%) reported having the disease. Age, lower socio-economic class, being a smoker, not using a condom at first sexual intercourse, and ever had a same-sex sexual experience were associated with syphilis. The results reinforce the importance of implementing strategies focused on socio-economic cl

This cross-sectional study, aimed at evaluating the impact of HIV prevention interventions in Lebanon since 1996, was performed between January 2004 and July 2004 on 3200 Lebanese aged 15-49 years. Of the sexually active respondents, 13.0% of men and 2.6% of women had regular partners other than the spouse but only 25.0% used a condom in their last sexual intercourse. However, 16.8% had sex with casual partners and 71.7% of those used a condom. Knowledge about preventive practices against HIV/AIDS has regressed since 1996, 85.7% compared to 94.9%. Self reports of symptoms suggestive of sexuall

To understand the role of context in constituting health is recognized as a key challenge facing contemporary health psychology. However, few models or theories are available which pinpoint the processes linking individual health with community or societal contexts. This article draws on dialogical and sociocultural psychological theory, to make context concrete by proposing the concepts of 'mediating moments' and 'reflected mediating moments'. These concepts are further developed through their application to the empirical case of the constitution of condom use in sex-worker-client interaction

While urban refugee youth face HIV vulnerabilities spanning socio-ecological levels, knowledge gaps persist in HIV prevention outcomes. We conducted a baseline analysis of a cohort enrolled in Tushirikiane-4-Uthabiti, an intervention focused on HIV testing practices among urban refugee youth aged 16-24 in Kampala, Uganda (N = 330). Using regression models, we examined the societal, community, and interpersonal factors associated with condom use self-efficacy [CUSE], consistent condom use, HIV self-testing [HIVST] kit access, and recent HIV testing. Most participants were women (53.3%), with a

INTRODUCTION: In sub-Saharan Africa, evidence shows that orphaned youth are exposed to more risky sexual behaviors than non-orphaned peers, which increases the chances of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. The fast rises in the prevalence of orphanhood are a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
METHODOLOGY: The data for this secondary analysis were collected through a cross-sectional, multi-stage, stratified, cluster randomized sampling design. Multivariable backward stepwise logistic regression analysis was fitted to determine the factors associated with risky sexual beha

OBJECTIVES: This study examines violence experienced in work and personal contexts and relation to HIV risk factors in these contexts among female sex workers (FSW) in Andhra Pradesh, India.
METHODS: FSW at least 18 years of age (n=2335) were recruited through three rounds of respondent-driven sampling between 2006 and 2010 for a survey on HIV risk. Using crude and adjusted logistic regression models, any sexual/physical violence (last 6 months) perpetrated by clients and husbands were separately assessed in association with accepting more money for sex without a condom (last 30 days), consis
