Dermoscopic findings of genital keratotic lesions: Bowenoid papulosis, seborrheic keratosis, and condyloma acuminatum.

Dermatologists often encounter keratotic or warty lesions in the genital area. Establishing a clear diagnosis may seem challenging, particularly when the differential diagnosis includes bowenoid papulosis, seborrheic keratosis, and condyloma acuminatum. This study aimed to compare the dermoscopic features of bowenoid papulosis (BP), seborrheic keratosis, and condyloma acuminatum in the genital area. All lesions histopathologically confirmed underwent clinical assessment and dermoscopic observation. Dermoscopically, glomerular vessels were predominant in bowenoid papulosis, whereas seborrheic k

Giant Condyloma Acuminata (Buschke-Lowenstein Tumor): Review of an Unusual Disease and Difficult to Manage.

Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA) or Buschke-Loewenstein tumor is a rare disease, with an estimated prevalence of 0.1%. It was initially described in 1896 by Buschke and later in 1925 by Buschke and Loewenstein. Classic condyloma acuminata (CCA) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were initially described as different entities. These three entities are currently considered to correspond to the same spectrum of different but not exclusive malignant transformations, associated with multiple risk factors such infection by human papilloma virus (HPV), immunodeficiencies, poor hygiene, multiple sexual

Unusual intra-rectal "laterally spreading tumour" in immunosuppressed patient with ulcerative colitis.

Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a manifestation of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection which usually occurs in genital and perianal regions. We report a 46-year-old man with an ulcerative proctitis diagnosed four years earlier, asymptomatic for a long time under azathioprine but without any follow-up for three years. A colonoscopy was performed prior to potential immunosuppressive treatment discontinuation and showed a circumferential "laterally spreading tumour" in the rectum. Surprisingly biopsies revealed a CA with a very focally high-grade intra-epithelial lesion. Azathioprine was stopped an

ALA-PDT combined with cystoscopy: A method to eliminate refractory HPV infection in a patient with condyloma acuminata.

BACKGROUND: Condyloma acuminata is a common sexually transmitted disease for which an underlying chronic human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is an important cause of recurrence. 5-aminolaevulinic acid-mediated photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) has become an effective method to treat condyloma acuminata. Urinary tract condyloma acuminata are not considered common, but warts in the bladder can be detected by cystoscopy. OBJECTIVE: To treat a urinary tract HPV infection in a 35 years old woman diagnosed with condyloma acuminata and to eliminate HPV infection. METHOD: A total of six sessions of AL

Impact of a single-age cohort human papillomavirus vaccination strategy in Catalonia, Spain: Population-based analysis of anogenital warts in men and women.

Extensive multiple-age cohort human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has proved to be highly effective. We aimed to determine the 8-year population impact of a female single-age cohort HPV vaccination programme on the incidence of anogenital warts (AGW). In 2008, Catalonia initiated a school-based quadrivalent HPV vaccination programme targeting 11-year-old girls, achieving coverage over 80%. Data on diagnoses of AGW and genital herpes were obtained from a population-based database of electronic health records covering 74% of the population. The annual incidence rates from 2009 to 2016 were ca

Acquired lymphangiectasia: a rare mimic of genital warts.

Acquired lymphangiectasia of the vulva is very uncommon. Owing to the non-specific papillomatous manifestation and the vast array of possible differential diagnoses, lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) still presents a diagnostic challenge. In this report, we present a very rare form of acquired vulvar LC in a 71-year-old patient with a longstanding history of asymptomatic lesions over the labia majora that had been previously treated as genital warts. On examination, the patient had multiple clustered translucent papules up to 15mm in diameter, morphologically reminiscent of vesicles, that oozed

A challenging diagnosis of penile sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma.

We report a patient with penile sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) initially misdiagnosed as condyloma acuminatum. Sarcomatoid SCC is a rare, aggressive, biphasic cancer that often presents a diagnostic challenge and carries a poor prognosis, especially after a delay in diagnosis. Although sarcomatoid SCC may exhibit a broad range of clinical features, the expression of p63 and keratin 34?E12 is a common finding. Our case highlights the importance of accurate clinicopathologic correlation to facilitate a timely diagnosis and management of this rare and highly aggressive malignancy.

Time-lapse imaging points towards a non-toxic, mainly immune-driven mode of action of ingenol mebutate in the treatment of anogenital warts.

Recently, it has been reported that ingenol mebutate (IM) is an effective treatment option for anogenital warts (AGW), inducing fast wart necrosis within 24 hours in vivo. With regard to its mode of action, IM is thought to act both as an inducer of direct cytotoxic effects and immunologic mechanisms. To distinguish whether the wart necrosis is mainly caused by cytotoxic effects, or whether immune mechanisms are leading, we used time-lapse imaging to analyse IM-treated warts ex vivo over 24 hours. Ex vivo IM-treated warts, which have been detached from the immune system, did not show destructi

Invasive penile squamous cell carcinoma.

Invasive penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) is a rare malignancy with considerable morbidity and mortality. Because a delayed or incorrect diagnosis can have a devastating outcome, physicians should maintain a high index of clinical suspicion for PSCC in patients presenting with penile lesions, particularly in young or middle-aged patients in whom presentation of PSCC is uncommon. We report the case of a 27-year-old circumcised man who presented with invasive PSCC following a diagnosis of condyloma 8 years prior. The patient underwent robotic laparoscopic bilateral pelvis and inguinal lymph

A comparative study of two techniques in the treatment of condyloma acuminata.

OBJECTIVES: Condyloma acuminata (CA) is mainly caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11. Clinicians use many different methods to treat analcondyloma acuminate ( CA). In this study, we aimed to compare electrocautery ablation (ECA) and argon plasma coagulation (APC) techniques in terms of postoperative bleeding, pain, scar development, loss of sexual sensation, and recurrence rates. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of collected data was performed for 49consecutive patients with CA, who underwent surgery between July 2011 and July 2014. Patients were grouped and evaluated according

Successful treatment of penile condyloma acuminata accompanied with lichen planus with photodynamic therapy.

Condyloma acuminata and lichen planus are different cutaneous diseases with disparate etiologies. Simultaneous appearance of two diseases in the same area is rare. This report aims to share the clinical and pathological features of a rare case; introduce an effective and safe therapy of it so as to broaden the therapeutic spectrum of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) indications.

Cantharidin is Superior to Trichloroacetic Acid for the Treatment of Non-mucosal Genital Warts: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Condyloma Acuminatum is a sexually transmitted viral disease caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). It is the most common viral sexually transmitted disease. In this randomized controlled trial, cantharidin was found to be more effective and better tolerated than trichloroacetic acid for the treatment of these lesions. Patients treated with cantharidin healed with less scarring than those treated with TCA (P<0.034), had less pain during treatment (P<0.01), and required fewer treatments to eradicate warts (P<0.01) when compared to Trichloroacetic acid.

Clinical Inquiry: Does qHPV vaccine prevent anal intraepithelial neoplasia and condylomata in men?

Yes. Quadrivalent human papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine reduces rates of anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN) by 50% to 54%, and persistent anal infection by 59%, associated with the 4 types of HPV in the vaccine (6, 11, 16, and 18) in young men who have sex with men (MSM); it also reduces external genital lesions by 66%, and persistent HPV infection associated with the same 4 HPV types by 48 to 59% in all young men, heterosexual men, and MSM.

Recurrent Buschke-Löwenstein tumor treated using CO(2) laser vaporization.

A 69-year-old woman had a 4-year history of recurrent giant condylomas (Buschke-Lowenstein tumor) in the anal and perianal regions, with extension to the vulva and vagina. After failure of 3 surgical excisions, one of which was radical, the condition was successfully treated using carbon dioxide laser vaporization and systemic interferon therapy. After 3 years of follow-up, the patient has not experienced a recurrence.
