Fatherhood, Reproductive Health, and Incarcerated Men: A Qualitative Study With Implications for Reentry.

It is important to understand how incarcerated men conceptualize fatherhood for reentry. Sixteen interviews explored attitudes and feelings about parenthood, family planning, and challenges and strengths regarding fatherhood. Transcriptions were analyzed for themes using open coding. Parenting themes: being active in children's lives, financial stability, and giving children better lives. Family planning themes: preventing sexually transmitted infection, creating stable families, importance of family planning, and birth control methods. Men were motivated to be stable fathers and utilize famil

A review of EPI progress in Pakistan towards achieving coverage targets: present situation and the way forward.

Pakistan's Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) performance has a significant impact on global and regional immunization indicators such as poliomyelitis eradication, maternal and neonatal tetanus and measles elimination. Despite significant efforts by the Government and partners, Pakistan's immunization indicators have not met the expected benchmarks. Barriers to achieving immunization goals are related to limited access to immunization services, lack of parent awareness and weak management. With sustained Government commitment, predictable partner support and by adopting effective strate

Nutrition: an issue of concern for children with disabilities.

Children with special health care needs should be identified as early as possible. Nutritionists, educators, therapists, parents, primary care clinicians, should serve as interdisciplinary advocates for these children by planning through conversations, meetings, and individualized educational plan objectives to secure any needed services. Intervention services also can involve specialized techniques such as food preparation, stimulation of the eating process, and monitoring of specialized feedings (e.g., gastrostomy tubes). Intervention with children exhibiting special health needs should be i

Anterior cruciate ligament bracing: evidence in providing stability and preventing injury or graft re-rupture.

Ligamentous knee injuries are common and costly, both in financial terms and time missed from work and recreational activities. Furthermore, ligamentous injuries appear to predispose patients to future osteoarthritis and other morbidities. Therefore, prevention strategies are important in limiting the potential impact of these injuries. Knee braces are one of the most often prescribed devices in the billion-dollar orthotic industry. Despite widespread use of prophylactic and functional knee braces, the evidence supporting their efficacy in reducing and/or preventing injury remains limited. Kne

Mean Reversion and Heavy Tails: Characterizing Time-Series Data Using Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Processes and Machine Learning.

We present a supervised learning method to estimate two local descriptors of time-series dynamics, the mean-reversion rate θ and a heavy-tail estimate α, from short windows of data. These parameters summarize recovery behavior and tail heaviness and are useful for interpreting stochastic signals in sensing applications. The method is trained on synthetic, dimensionless Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes with α-stable noise, ensuring robustness for non-Gaussian and heavy-tailed inputs. Gradient-boosted tree models (CatBoost) map window-level statistical features to discrete α and θ categories with hi

Impact of an Oncology Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in an Outpatient Multiple Myeloma Clinic.

INTRODUCTION: Improvements in cancer treatment and supportive care, as well as the approval of oral chemotherapy medications over the past decade, have resulted in an increasing number of cancer patients being treated in outpatient settings. Transitioning cancer treatments to the outpatient setting places greater emphasis on proper medication counseling and optimal management of adverse effects. We therefore evaluated the clinical and financial impact of an oncology clinical pharmacist specialist in an interdisciplinary multiple myeloma clinic by using a validated scoring tool. METHODS: The o

Examining the benefit of vaccinating adults against pertussis.

PURPOSE: To examine recent evidence concerning the health benefits and cost effectiveness of replacing a single dose of adult tetanus/diphtheria vaccine with a single dose of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (TDaP). METHODS: A review of the literature was conducted utilizing the databases CINAHL and Medline with the keywords pertussis, adult immunization, vaccination, TDaP, DTaP, and healthcare workers. CONCLUSIONS: Recent outbreaks of pertussis have shown that preventing such outbreaks through immunization of adults with a single TDaP vaccine is a cost-effective measure. These studies focused o

The relative geographic immobility of new registered nurses calls for new strategies to augment that workforce.

Little is known about registered nurses' geographic mobility after they earn their first professional degree and become licensed to practice. Through a cross-sectional mailed survey of newly licensed registered nurses in fifteen states, we found that 52.5 percent work within forty miles of where they attended high school. Our complementary analysis of Census Bureau data shows that next to teaching, nursing is one of the least mobile professions for women, for reasons that remain unclear. To ensure that underserved areas have an adequate workforce of registered nurses, policy makers should expa

Ongoing care of the patient with HIV/AIDS.

Because patients with HIV are living longer, health maintenance and disease prevention have become important aspects of care. Clinical use of CD4 cell counts and viral load assays to monitor disease progression is reviewed. This article discusses the effect malnutrition has on disease progression and interventions to prevent wasting syndrome. Resources for patient education are identified that enhance the patient's ability to make informed decisions about his or her health care. Supportive services should be used to maintain a patient's independence. These programs also may provide emotional a

Supporting Athletes Through the Junior-to-Senior Transition in Swiss Elite Sport: A Qualitative Study of Parents' Transition Challenges, Coping Strategies, and Support Wishes.

The junior-to-senior transition (JST) represents a critical phase in athletic development, characterized by increased performance demands, heightened uncertainty, and elevated risk for psychological strain. While research has largely centered athletes' perspectives, parents are pivotal yet underexplored actors in supporting this process. In Swiss elite sport, parental support unfolds within a decentralized, club- and federation-based environment marked by strong dual-career pressures and uneven access to support. The aim of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore how parents experien

Digital access and frailty in older adults: A moderated mediation model of digital literacy and social support.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is common geriatric syndrome associated with disability, hospitalization, and mortality, but could be preventable. Digital access and digital literacy are increasingly relevant to healthy aging, yet pathways linking digital access to frailty risk remain unclear. OBJECTIVES: This study examined whether digital literacy mediates the association between digital access and frailty risk and whether domain-specific social support moderates this indirect association. METHODS: Nationally representative data from 6625 community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years were analyzed. D

Building a Path to Recovery: Implementation of a Student-Led Trauma Recovery Program Addressing Social Drivers of Health.

INTRODUCTION: Patients who experience traumatic injury are at increased risk of poor physical and psychological outcomes. Social drivers of health, including financial toxicity, food insecurity, limited social support, and lack of insurance, may increase this risk. This feasibility and implementation pilot study evaluates an intervention that partners patients with medical student care advocates and community resource navigation to improve recovery following trauma. METHODS: Three iterations of the R.I.S.E. Trauma Recovery Program were implemented between 2023 and 2026. Adult trauma patients

"Social support and stressful life events: risk factors for antenatal depression in nulliparous and multiparous women".

Nulliparous (pregnant women who are giving birth for the first time) and multiparous (women who have multiple children) may have different concerns, which may be associated with risk of antenatal depression. This study aims to examine the role of social support and stressful life events as risk factors for antenatal depression in nulliparous and multiparous women. The sample included 1,524 pregnant women recruited from an obstetrics setting at the end of the first trimester of pregnancy from two Spanish tertiary-care public hospitals. The sample completed the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-
