BACKGROUNDS: One of the most frequent causes of allergic contact dermatitis of occupational origin are rubber additives, which are present in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The most allergenic additives of natural and synthetic gloves are thiurams, carbamates and mercapto group.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the state of knowledge about the chemical additives used in the manufacture of synthetic rubber gloves.
METHODS: This was a qualitative research study in which professionals working in the manufacture, research, prescription and commercialization of gloves answered an open questionnair

Occupational dermatitis to personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly to gloves, mainly occurs in healthcare workers. They are all irritant and/or allergic contact dermatitis (eczema and contact urticaria). Prolonged glove wearing by healthcare workers favours skin irritation of the hands and wrists. It is very important to consider characteristics and materials of gloves used in the medical field. Rubber additives are the main allergens in gloves. Latex or natural rubber remains by far the most frequent cause for occupational contact urticaria from gloves. The problem of prevention of

The target body part primarily affected by stress in an occupation are the hands. The hands are involved in 90-95 % of the nearly 18,000 cases of occupation-related skin diseases registered every year. Harmful substances and stressing procedures, such as, e. g., wet work, tensides, organic solvents, lubricating coolants, metals, and even foods, are able to cause irritation of the skin. These noxious substances penetrate the skin and either cause direct damage of the protective skin barrier (irritative contact dermatitis (CD)) or provoke an immunological reaction (allergic CD); both will become

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Due to the continuously changing environmental conditions, it is necessary to regularly monitor and update the spectrum of contact allergens that elicit contact dermatitis. New contact allergens and known contact allergens with currently increasing importance need to be identified for diagnostic and preventive purposes.
RECENT FINDINGS: Within the last few years, allergic contact allergy to a number of substances derived from plants and other materials was reported for the first time. Furthermore, it has become obvious that dyes, especially paraphenylenediamine-related dyes

27 patients (26 women and 1 man), all in contact with artificial nails, were tested for acrylic compounds, known to be present in nail cosmetics. The patch test results obtained in these patients demonstrated that 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and ethyl cyanoacrylate were the only 2 allergens needed to diagnose contact allergy to acrylic-containing nail cosmetics, except for 1 patient who reacted only to her nail preparation used and in which we were unable to identify the allergen. This concerns clearly a limited number of patients. The purpose was, however, to detect the most valuable allergen

BACKGROUND: Many health care workers are sensitized to the proteins in natural rubber latex and get contact dermatitis as a result of wearing latex gloves.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate a topical formulation containing a zinc gel (Allergy Guard) as a prophylactic against latex glove-related contact dermatitis.
METHODS: The study was carried out with volunteers who exhibited mild to moderate contact dermatitis (type IV) after wearing latex gloves as per the protocol.
RESULTS: Allergy Guard significantly reduced skin irritation in volunteers who exhibited type IV hypersensit

BACKGROUND: Limited information documents the prevention and treatment benefits of a hand care regimen using moisturizer in a controlled manner for employees in typical manufacturing situations.
OBJECTIVE: The objective was to assess the effectiveness of a comprehensive skin care program including skin conditioning lotion in multiple manufacturing environments where employees are at high risk for skin disease.
METHODS: A randomized trial test design with multiple measures, including skin bioengineering measurement techniques, visual grading, and self-assessment questionnaires, was used to br

We report the case of a 52-year-old male heart transplant recipient with a persistent localized subcutaneous infection by Scedosporium apiospermum. This form differs from the most common mycetoma by the absence of granules. The patient showed multiple nodules on the right hand that were surgically removed. Concomitantly, he received oral itraconazole, but the infection persisted for two years, and several surgical interventions were necessary to eradicate the infection. Our case demonstrates that a medical approach alone may be not sufficient to cure this fungal infection.

BACKGROUND: Phytophotodermatitis is a phototoxic reaction, occurring in skin exposed to sunlight after contact with plants containing furanocoumarins. Typical reactions are mild, showing erythema with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. A 6-year-old boy presented with marked, symmetric, painful erythema and edema of both hands that rapidly developed into dramatic bullae covering the entire dorsum of the hands. The history revealed that the hands had been bathed in lime juice for a prolonged period in the preparation of limeade.
OBJECTIVE: This report documents an unusual bullous presentation

Crusted scabies has been defined as a scabies-induced psoriasiform dermatosis on the hands and feet with dystrophy of the nails and an erythematous scaling eruption that may be generalized. This case report demonstrates a patient who presented with widespread psoriasiform plaques that were teeming with scabies mites and eggs, but who had absence of nail and palmar involvement. While patients with crusted scabies may have nail dystrophy and involvement of the palms, this involvement is not necessary.

Eczema of the palm and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are common disorders. Proinflammatory cytokines and cell adhesion molecules are elevated in both of these disorders. We describe an unusual patient with OSA who had recurrent free remission of dermatitis after treatment with continuous positive airway pressure. We speculate that the resolution of the patient's skin condition may reflect the effects of increased tissue oxygenation during sleep, reduced sleep fragmentation, and/or a reduction in sympathetic tone associated with successful sleep apnea treatment.

AIMS: Bilateral chylothoraces are rare but potentially life-threatening complications of neck dissections (ND). The condition is generally treated with a combination of dietary, medical, procedural, and surgical approaches. The aim of this review is to highlight the management options currently utilized in clinical practice and propose a management algorithm for this condition.
METHODS: In accordance to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines; utilizing the Pubmed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases, a systematic review of all available literat
