[Conservative complete restoration of the apical-ostitis foci].

Histological pictures on the initial and further development of periapical inflammations show that they may develop after the formation of an abscess as well as primary solid granulation starting at the apex. It depends on the surrounding connective tissue interpreted as sclerosed edema whether in the case of an abscess, the abscess cavity will be organized or whether a cyst will be developing.

Satisfaction of Search in Periapical Radiograph Interpretation.

INTRODUCTION: Several studies in radiology and medicine have evaluated the satisfaction of search (SOS) error effect in chest radiography, abdominal radiography, osteoradiology, and patients with multiple trauma. No research to date has been published evaluating the possible existence of the SOS error phenomenon made during dental periapical radiograph interpretations. The purpose of the present pilot study was to determine if an SOS error effect exists when dental clinicians interpret periapical radiographs. The null hypothesis was that the detection accuracy will be the same or will improve

Inhibition of Jaw Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cell Cuproptosis Attenuates Bone Loss in Apical Periodontitis via Suppressing the FoxO Signalling Pathway.

AIM: Apical periodontitis (AP) is an infectious disorder characterized by periapical inflammation and alveolar bone destruction. Recent evidence suggests that cuproptosis, a distinctive form of copper-regulated cell death, has been implicated in the regulation of bone loss. This study aimed to investigate the involvement of cuproptosis and its mechanism in modulating bone loss in AP. METHODOLOGY: Periapical specimens from healthy subjects or AP patients were collected to evaluate copper content and the expression level of cuproptosis-associated proteins. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq)

A Prospective Study on the Effect of Coronal Tooth Structure Loss on the Survival of Root Canal-Retreated Posterior Teeth Restored With Metal Ceramic Crowns With up to 10-Year Follow-Up.

AIM: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate whether the volume of residual coronal tooth structure influences the survival of root canal-retreated posterior teeth with up to 10-year follow-up. Secondary aims were to assess whether 12-month radiographic findings and the Dental Practicality Index (DPI) could predict long-term survival. METHODOLOGY: A total of 156 posterior teeth in 140 patients underwent clinical examination, baseline CBCT and PA prior to retreatment in a postgraduate endodontic unit under specialist supervision. Residual coronal tooth volume was quantified using intraor

Failed Regenerative Endodontic Case Treated by Modified Aspiration-irrigation Technique and Apexification.

AIM: This report addresses the management of a large persistent discharging lesion in an 11-year-old boy. The report describes the use of aspiration-irrigation technique for the management of immature necrotic tooth with persistent discharge after a failed regenerative procedure. BACKGROUND: Regenerative endodontics aim to provide an increase in root canal width, length, and in apical closure. Alternative procedures, such as apexification, should be attempted when regeneration fails. If the canal cannot be dried to persistent discharge, the aspiration-irrigation technique can be used. The tec

Effect of Orthodontic Treatment on the Outcomes of Endodontically Treated Teeth: A Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Often there is the need of moving endodontically treated teeth. Orthodontic movement may have no effect on the prognosis of teeth with root canal treatment (RCT). To verify this subject, we evaluated the effect of orthodontic movement on the prognosis of RCT teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and further explored the influence of orthodontic movement on the prognosis of RCT teeth with and without apical periodontitis (AP). METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted by evaluating 169 RCT teeth of 100 patients who had undergone fixed orthodontic treatment. AP wa

Needle breakage during dental anesthesia: Management strategies and its associated preventive measures.

Dental anesthesia is useful and important for the procedures of tooth extraction, oral tissue biopsy, periapical and periodontal surgery and more others. However, needle breakage during dental anesthesia, presents a considerable challenge in its clinical management. Retained fragments can lead to pain, trismus, dysphagia, and infections, and may migrate into deeper spaces, increasing the complexity and risk upon its retrieval. To avoid such consequences, prompt removal of the broken fragment is often advocated. However, no standard guidelines were developed. This review provides a comprehensiv

Semi-Immediate Autotransplantation of a Maxillary Third Molar With Unfavorable Root Anatomy: A Case Report.

Tooth autotransplantation is a procedure in which a donor tooth is transplanted within the same patient's jaw to replace a missing tooth. Donor tooth root morphology and periodontal ligament integrity are key factors influencing success. We report a semi-immediate autotransplantation of a maxillary third molar with a 90° divergent root into a site previously affected by a periapical abscess. After the extraction of the compromised tooth (#15) and removal of the interradicular septum, the site was left to heal to allow soft tissue closure and infection resolution. During this period, CBCT imagi

Management of Concomitant Intrusion and Complicated Crown-Root Fracture Injury of Maxillary Central Incisors in a Child.

Dental intrusions are a severe type of injury because they impact the neurovascular supply of the tooth as well as the supporting tissues which predispose the tooth to necrosis and root resorption. Management of these injuries requires repositioning of the teeth under close monitoring to avoid complications. The management becomes more comprehensive when an intrusion is combined with other injuries, such as a crown-root fracture. This case report represents a 4-year follow-up of a child who suffered from a concomitant injury of intrusion and complicated crown-root fracture to the maxillary imm
