A 30-year-old man with a 10-year history of neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF-2) and minimal hearing in his left ear, presented with rapidly progressive disease and risk of total hearing loss. He was started on imatinib and achieved stable disease for 4 months, after which the drug was ceased due to toxicity. Imatinib, a specific tyrosine kinase inhibitor is a newer anticancer agent, which has shown excellent efficacy in managing chronic myeloid leukemia. It is generally well tolerated with few side effects. Most commonly reported adverse events are maculopapular eruptions and periorbital edema. Severe adverse reactions are seen in 5% of patients. Exfoliative dermatitis has been very rarely reported with this drug. We report a case of a 52-year-old male who initially presented with a maculopapular rash and developed erythroderma on continuation of the drug.

BACKGROUND: Since the advent of targeted molecules, the treatment and prognosis of many cancers, especially chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), have been substantially modified through the introduction of first- and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors. This study aimed to systematically review the data related to the treatment of tic disorders through aripiprazole administration, an atypical antipsychotic. Diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis is a less common but potentially life-threatening variant of childhood mastocytosis. Here we report 2 children with diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis in whom an activating somatic KIT mutation was detected. Treatment with imatinib, a KIT inhibitor, resulted in resolution of the lesions and were well tolerated by the patients.

OBJECTIVE: To explore demographic characteristics, current diagnosis and treatment patterns of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients in China.
METHODS: Data of hospitalized CML patients in 2005 whole year and outpatient information (July 1 through September 30, 2006) from 15 hospitals throughout China were analyzed.

This is a case report of a 24-year-old African lady, who developed symptoms of tardive dyskinesia (TD) following 9 months of treatment with aripiprazole 15 mg. She has no family history of mental illness, not used illicit substances and has a medical diagnosis of idiopathic hypertension which is well controlled. The patient has an 18-month history of paranoid schizophrenia with three psychotic episodes, one severe enough to warrant admission. Upon discontinuation of aripiprazole and switch to quetiapine, the symptoms of TD disappeared rapidly. A PubMed search revealed one previous case report

We aimed to report a case with rhabdomyolysis related to hyponatremia and/or its correction. A 32-year-old male schizophrenic patient on ziprasidone treatment was admitted to the hospital following a seizure. Patient had primary polydipsia and secondarily developed hyponatremia. After the correction of hyponatremia, due to the high liver enzyme levels, he was diagnosed as rhabdomyolysis. Although the role of antipsychotics in this situation is speculative, development of rhabdomyolysis related to hyponatremia and/or its correction should not be underestimated and should be assessed thoroughly.
