A new benzimidazole anthelmintic, triclabendazole (CGA-89317) was found to be highly efficient against mature and early immature Fasciola hepatica infections in sheep. At the dose rate of 2.5 mg/kg the efficiency was 90 and 98 per cent against flukes aged eight and 12 weeks respectively. At 5 mg/kg the drug was 92 and 98 per cent efficient against flukes aged four and eight weeks respectively and 100 per cent against 12-week-old flukes. The blood flow to the digestive organs of nine sheep was determined by the use of isotopically labelled microspheres before, during and at 2 h and 4 h after feeding. A total of 1246 animals (778 sheep and 468 goats) were examined for detection of brucellosis using serum tube agglutination test (SAT), complement fixation test (CFT) as well as Abortus Bang Ring test (ABR-test) have been conducted on both dairy ewes and goats. In order to study the occurrence of mycoplasmas among Norwegian sheep, lungs from a great number of different herds were collected at 3 abattoirs in Southern Norway. The presence of fermenting mycoplasmas and bacteria was examined in both normal and pneumonic lungs to determine whether recovery of these agents could be related to pneumonic changes. Pneumonic lungs demonstrated lesions typical of the condition described as subacute or chronic pneumonia. The ultrastructural changes induced in hydatid cysts from lungs of sheep after medication with one or two courses of mebendazole (Ovitelmin), each lasting 3 wk, are described. The hydatid germinal membrane tissue collected from the treated sheep showed complete degeneration of the tegumental and subtegumental structures and minor degree of calcification. Lung hydatid cysts of the untreated sheep presented normal ultrastructural configurations.

It is generally believed that adrenal steroid hypertension is due to the 'mineralocorticoid' and/or 'glucocorticoid' activities of the steroid(s). The present study examines the blood pressure and metabolic effects of steroid hormone infusion in intact conscious sheep to assess the relative contributions of 'glucocorticoid' and 'mineralocorticoid' activity.
