PURPOSE: Following shoulder dislocation, injuries such as rotator cuff tear (RCT), axillary nerve injury, greater tuberosity (GT) fracture, Hill-Sachs lesion, and Bankart lesion frequently occur. This study aimed to develop and validate a clinical prediction model for the occurrence of RCT after acute anterior shoulder dislocation. METHODS: This study included all patients with acute anterior shoulder dislocation who presented to the emergency orthopedics department of the same institution from July 2021 to March 2025. Lasso regression was used to select independent variables for the model. A

BACKGROUND: Reparation of C5 by proximal selective ipsilateral C7 transfer has been reported for the treatment of neurogenic shoulder abduction limitation as an alternative to the reparation of the suprascapular nerve (SSN) and the axillary nerve (AXN) by distal nerve transfers. However, there is a lack of evidence to support either strategy leading to better outcomes based on long-term follow-up.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to investigate the safety and long-term outcomes of the posterior division of ipsilateral C7 (PDIC7) transfer to C5 in treating neurogenic shoulder abduction

HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that National Football League (NFL) players sustaining a shoulder destabilizing injury could return to play (RTP) successfully at a high rate regardless of treatment type.
METHODS: We identified and evaluated 83 NFL players who sustained an in-season shoulder instability event while playing in the NFL. NFL RTP, incidence of surgery, time to RTP, recurrent instability events, seasons/games played after the injury, and demographic data were collected. Overall RTP was determined, and players who did and did not undergo operative repair were compared.
RESULTS: Ninety-

Major League Baseball (MLB) players are at significant risk for both chronic, repetitive overuse injuries as well as acute traumatic injuries. Pitchers have been shown to be at higher risk for sustaining injuries, especially upper extremity injuries, than position players. The past several MLB seasons have seen a dramatic rise in the number of ulnar collateral ligament reconstructions performed in MLB pitchers. Several recent prospective studies have identified risk factors for injuries to both the shoulder and elbow in MLB pitchers. These risk factors include a lack of external rotation, a la

Previous case reports have highlighted various anomalous origins of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) that do not originate from the superior glenoid labrum or supraglenoid tubercle. Yet, these cases were all reported as incidental findings and were not thought to cause any significant shoulder pathology. We present the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and clinical treatment of two cases where aberrant intra-articular origins of the long head of the biceps tendon from the anterior edge of the supraspinatus tendon may have contributed to symptomatic rotator cuff pathology. Arthroscopy co

A "burner" is a common nerve injury resulting from trauma to the neck and shoulder, usually during sports participation. The injury is most often caused by traction or compression of the upper trunk of the brachial plexus or the fifth or sixth cervical nerve roots. Burners are typically transient, but they can cause prolonged weakness resulting in time loss from athletic participation. Furthermore, they often recur. Treatment consists of restoring range of motion, improving strength and providing protective equipment. Return to sports participation depends primarily on reestablishment of pain-

Shoulder problems in the overhead and throwing athlete can result in rotator cuff tendinitis. Biomechanically, there is a delicate balance between mobility and stability of the shoulder complex. Repetitive overhead stressful motion can lead to overuse tendinitis, subtle instability, labral changes, and eventual fiber failure of the rotator cuff. Secondary impingement symptoms are commonly present. An accurate diagnosis along with an early and aggressive rehabilitation program is essential in the treatment of these athletes.

The management of proximal humeral fractures (PHF) remains controversial. Its incidence is increasing. Patients should be meticulously assessed clinically for co-morbidities and neuro-vascular injuries. Radiological investigation helps provide information on the fracture configuration and dislocations. Enhanced by 3-dimensional CT scanning, these further help in decision making and operative planning. PHF classifications have been demonstrated to have poor intra-observer and inter-observer reliability. Research has identified some radiographic predictive factors for humeral head ischaemia and

CONTEXT: Shoulder injuries are common in athletes involved in overhead sports, and scapular dyskinesis is believed to be one causative factor in these injuries. Many authors assert that abnormal scapular motion, so-called dyskinesis, is related to shoulder injury, but evidence from 3-dimensional measurement studies regarding this relationship is mixed. Reliable and valid clinical methods for detecting scapular dyskinesis are lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the interrater reliability of a new test designed to detect abnormal scapular motion.
DESIGN: Correlation design using ratings from mult…

To determine if helmet removal causes a significant increase in lordosis of the cervical spine in ice hockey players, we radiographically assessed the position of the cervical spine in subjects immobilized to a standard spine backboard wearing shoulder pads both with and without a helmet. Ten adult male volunteers (ages, 18 to 28 years) with no previous history of cervical spine injuries were fitted with an appropriately sized ice hockey helmet and shoulder pads and immobilized in a supine position to a standard spine backboard. Computerized tomographic lateral scout scans were obtained of the
