Mucopolysaccharidoses type IV A (Morquio syndrome): a case series of three siblings.

Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are a family of inherited metabolic diseases that results from the deficiency of lysosomal enzymes involved in the degradation of the glycosaminoglycans (mucopolysaccharides). Despite the well-documented oral and dental findings of MPS type IV, there is not much literature documented about the incidence of this disorder among siblings in the same family. This report outlines the clinical and radiographic findings found in three siblings with Morquio syndrome.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumour mimicking a periapical cyst in pregnant woman.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumours (AOT) are uncommon odontogenic lesions characterized histologi-cally by duct-like structures derived from the epithelial component of the lesion and can be distinctly classified into follicular, extrafollicular and extraosseous variants (Neville BW, Damm DD, Allen CM, et al. Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor. A Text Book for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2(nd) edition, 621-3). Most of these tumours develop in the second or third decade of life and have a distinct predilection for women. The follicular variant accounts for 75% of reported cases (Curran AE, Miller

A core fracture with all-ceramic crowns: a case report.

This article is an observational-descriptive type case study with references to recent literature on ceramic fracture. The case selected was an unusual incidence of a veneer-to-core fracture of a Procera AllCeram crown after 18 months of service. This unusual case represents a significant concern to general dentists, because the highly dense alumina core is supposed to show comparable fracture resistance to the metal cores of conventional metal-ceramic crowns. Clinical evidence shows that bruxism, manufacturing defects, pre-cementation occlusal adjustment by the laboratory technician or dentis

Early changes in interproximal contact and tactile sensitivity around implant-supported restorations: An 18-month prospective study.

PURPOSE: To longitudinally assess the frequency and magnitude of interproximal contact loss (ICL) between implant crowns and adjacent teeth, and changes in tactile sensitivity thresholds around single implant restorations compared with contralateral natural teeth over 18 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 20 participants who were restored with a single posterior implant crown. Each restoration used a custom-milled titanium abutment and a screw-retained monolithic zirconia crown. Occlusion was standardized to light centric contacts on the implant crowns,

Long-term function of single-implant restorations: a 17- to 19-year follow-up study on implant infraposition related to the shape of the face and patients' satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: Various levels of infraposition of single-implant restorations have been observed in long-term follow-up studies, but little knowledge is available on the biological mechanism behind this pattern. PURPOSE: The primary aim of this study is to report the frequency and severeness of implant infraposition in the anterior single-implant application after 17 to 19 years in function and, secondly, to try to relate these observations to anatomical appearance of the shape of the face of the patient. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study comprised of 57 patients who were provided with 6

Root Canal Therapy Versus Single-Tooth Dental Implants for Compromised Teeth: A Retrospective Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Selecting between root canal therapy (RCT) and extraction followed by dental implant placement for a compromised tooth remains clinically challenging. Treatment decisions should consider survival, complications, treatment burden, cost, and patient satisfaction rather than survival alone. OBJECTIVE: To compare treatment survival, clinical and radiographic success, complications, treatment visits, duration, direct cost, and patient satisfaction between RCT-restored teeth and single implant-supported crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative cohort study included

Effect of Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate on the Microhardness and Fracture Resistance of Irradiated Permanent Human Teeth: An In Vitro Study.

Introduction Radiotherapy, one of the most important modalities of treating head and neck cancer, causes xerostomia, mucositis, and structural and chemical changes in dental hard tissues. These factors favour the commencement of radiation-induced caries. Aim The study aimed to evaluate the changes in enamel microhardness and fracture resistance after irradiation and the effect of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) on the same. Materials and methods Fifty extracted human premolar teeth were debrided and cleansed using an ultrasonic scaler. In order to test for fracture

Comparative Evaluation of Fracture Resistance in Endodontically Treated Posterior Teeth Restored With Endocrowns Versus Conventional Post and Core Followed by a Full Crown: An In Vitro Study.

Introduction Endodontically treated posterior teeth are weakened by the loss of coronal structure and require durable restoration to prevent fracture. Conventional post-core-crown systems often involve additional dentin removal, which increases the risk of root fracture. Endocrowns may offer a conservative alternative that uses the pulp chamber for retention. This in vitro study aimed to compare the fracture resistance and failure modes of endodontically treated mandibular first molars restored with lithium disilicate endocrowns versus fiber post-core and lithium disilicate full crowns. Treatment of Esthetic Complications with Peri-implant Soft Tissue: A Description of the "Apical Approach" Surgical Technique and Presentation of Two Clinical Cases.

Peri-implant soft tissue deformities are an increasingly common phenomenon in the esthetic zone. While the most widely studied esthetic complications are peri-implant soft tissue dehiscences, there are other esthetic concerns in routine clinical practice that require investigation and treatment. Thus, this report on two clinical cases describes a surgical approach using the apical access technique to treat peri-implant soft tissue discoloration and fenestration. In both clinical scenarios, the defect was accessed via a single horizontal apical incision without removing the cement-retained crow

A Single-Center Study of a Resin Inlay Dental Implant-Fixed Prosthesis for Closing Proximal Contact Loss in 89 Patients Who Underwent 3-Year Follow-Up.

BACKGROUND Proximal contact loss (PCL) is very common between implant-fixed prostheses (IFPs) and adjacent teeth and leads to a high incidence of food impaction. Our aim was to determine if the mesio-distal adjustable (MDA) crown prostheses introduced in this study could easily establish new contacts intraorally without the intervention of prostheses retrieval. MATERIAL AND METHODS The MDA crown requires casting in the inlay framework at the proximal contact area. If PCL occurred, the resin in the inlay framework could be easily removed and refilled chairside. This single-center prospective st

Mortality from an aspiration of dental crown during extraction.

An aspiration of a dental crown during a dental extraction requires appropriate and timely diagnosis and management. While foreign body aspiration in dental procedures is relatively uncommon, it constitutes a true medical emergency and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We report a case of mortality from a foreign body aspiration and discuss the epidemiology, risk factors, signs and symptoms, management, and prevention of foreign body ingestion and aspiration events.

[The relationship between celiac disease (CD) and dental problems].

With a prevalence of 1% in western populations, Celiac disease (CD) is one of the most common inflammatory disorders of the small intestine. CD is often assumed to have its onset in childhood, but it has recently been suggested that adults can also develop CD. Clinical manifestations vary according to age group: infants and young children present with diarrhea, abdominal distention, and failure to thrive, whereas adults that develop CD not only present with diarrhea, but also with silent manifestations such as anemia, osteoporosis, or neurological symptoms. In the small intestine of celiac dis

[Prosthetic possibilities in the treatment of missing anterior teeth in adolescents].

Prior to the judgement on the best solution in the treatment of missing teeth in adolescents, an inventory of all problems has to be made. On the basis of this inventory the dentist can search for solutions by means of an analysis of castings and a wax-up. The combination of these solutions is indicative for the therapy which has to follow. In case tooth material has to be added, a prosthetic solution will be necessary. The condition of the teeth adjacent to the open space is the major factor in the considerations on which prosthetic solution is best. To be able to treat in a predictable way,

Tissue characteristics in a traumatised immature necrotic incisor after unsuccessful regenerative endodontic treatment: an immunohistological case report.

PURPOSE: The present case report aimed to present an immunohistological analysis of newly formed intracanal tissues in a traumatised immature permanent incisor with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis following RET. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 7-year-old girl sustained a combined traumatic dental injury, an uncomplicated crown fracture and lateral luxation, affecting an immature maxillary central incisor. The tooth subsequently developed pulpal necrosis and apical periodontitis and was treated with RET using calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament. A blood clot served as the scaffold, follow

Closed vs open surgical exposure of palatally displaced canines: surgery time, postoperative complications, and patients' perceptions: a multicentre, randomized, controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Closed and open surgical techniques are two different main approaches to surgical exposure of palatally displaced canines (PDCs). Because there is insufficient evidence to support one technique over the other, there is a need for randomized controlled trials. OBJECTIVES: To compare surgery time, complications and patients' perceptions between closed and open surgical techniques in PDCs. TRIAL DESIGN: The trial was a multicentre, randomized, controlled trial with two parallel groups randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Study participants were 119 consecutive p
