Metaheuristics with Deep Learning-Enabled Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis and Classification Model.

Parkinson's disease (PD) affects the movement of people, including the differences in writing skill, speech, tremor, and stiffness in muscles. It is significant to detect the PD at the initial stages so that the person can live a peaceful life for a longer time period. The serious levels of PD are highly risky as the patients get progressive stiffness, which results in the inability of standing or walking. Earlier studies have focused on the detection of PD effectively using voice and speech exams and writing exams. In this aspect, this study presents an improved sailfish optimization algorith…

Grammatical Verb Errors: Differences Between English Learners With and Without Diagnosed Language-Based Learning Disabilities.

PURPOSE: This study examines the written language samples of fifth grade English learner (EL) students with and without diagnosed language-based learning disabilities (LLDs) in an effort to explore the utility of such supplemental materials for aiding in differential diagnosis of ELs with and without LLDs. METHOD: This sample of 127 fifth grade students consisted of ELs without identified disabilities (n = 89) and ELs diagnosed with LLDs (n = 38). Written language samples from a classroom-based expository writing task were coded for grammaticality and specific verb type of errors. An analysis…

Direct 3D printing of graphene using capillary suspensions.

Conventional 3D printing of graphene requires either a complex formulation of the ink with large quantities of polymers or essential post-pr … 3D printing, which is demonstrated through the fabrication of a simple lattice structure by direct writing and air drying at room temperature. The printed structure has a porosity of 81%, is robust for handling with a compression strength of 1.3 MPa and has an electrical conductivity of 250 S m-1. After heat treatment at 350 °C conductivity is 2370 S m-1 …

Psychotherapy and despair in the prison setting.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to outline research which aimed to explore psychotherapists' experience of working with despair, in the UK prison setting, through a qualitative phenomenological approach. Within the forensic psychological literature, despair is considered a pathology, associated with suicide and self-harm, resulting from the prisoners histories and the coercive prison setting. In turn, therapeutic writings outline the importance of therapy in the prison setting with despair in providing coping skills, containment and learning opportunities for the prisoners involved. DES…

Behçet's disease or Adamantiades-Behçet disease? An evidence-based historical survey.

BACKGROUND: The aim is to inform authors, investigators, and journal editors about the evolution and progression of Behçet symptoms or findings chronologically in evidence-based historical articles since Hippocratic writings to bring physicians with different areas of interest to a consensus and thus address the significance of consistency in the eponym "Behçet" among authors interested in Behçet's disease care and research, as science does not accept a "naming dilemma". MATERIAL/METHODS: The historical progression of Behçet's disease is divided into three periods, namely pre-Behçet, Behçet, …

Weir Mitchell's observations on sensory localization and their influence on Jacksonian neurology.

BACKGROUND: John Hughlings Jackson (1835-1911) in London was critical in advancing the concept of cerebral localization. Hughlings Jackson, however, did not work in a vacuum. Silas Weir Mitchell (1829-1914), in Philadelphia, published several clinical observations related to localization. OBJECTIVE: To examine Weir Mitchell's clinical observations on sensory localization, to determine whether they influenced Jacksonian neurology, and to elucidate the private relationship between the two men. METHODS: The authors reviewed published (fictional and scientific writings of Weir Mitchell and scien…

Sensory training for patients with focal hand dystonia.

Some patients with focal hand dystonia have impaired sensory perception. Abnormal sensory processing may lead to problems with fine motor control. For patients with focal hand dystonia who demonstrate sensory dysfunction, sensory training may reverse sensory impairment and dystonic symptoms. We studied the efficacy of learning to read braille as a method of sensory training for patients with focal hand dystonia. Sensory spatial discrimination was evaluated in 10 patients who had focal hand dystonia and 10 age- and gender-matched controls with a spatial acuity test (JVP domes were used in this

[A Narrative and Psychological Case Study of a Suicide in 1840: The Suicide of Pierre Rivière].

In the following, we attempt to map the narrative and psychological moments of suicide in the multifaceted document compiled by Michel Foucault. Pierre Rivière murdered his mother, sister, and brother in 1835, and later, after writing his memoirs, committed suicide in prison. In the analysis, we examine the documents from the perspective of suicide: after an introduction, where we explain our method, we attempt to analyze Pierre Rivière's memoirs from these perspectives and then summarize. Keywords: suicide; psychiatry; psychology; narrative; Pierre Rivière.

aCTA structured reporting of aortic dissection and updated knowledge required by radiologists.

The development of Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) has greatly enhanced the diagnosis of aortic dissection (AD). However, there is currently no comprehensive reporting requirement for the diagnosis of AD. Structured reporting templates are becoming increasingly common in radiology and other medical fields. Drawing on the standardized writing methods of structured reports for different diseases, the authors propose a structured reporting template for the CTA diagnosis of AD and suggest details for the template while also exploring several hot topics related to AD.

Brachial Neuritis After Botulinum Toxin Injections for Cervical Dystonia: A Need for a Reappraisal?

BACKGROUND: Brachial neuritis has previously been described as a rare occurrence in patients receiving botulinum toxin for cervical or writing/focal arm dystonia. METHODS: We report four cases of patients with a long history of cervical dystonia treated with botulinum toxin injections. RESULTS: All patients developed pain and muscular weakness around the shoulder, with EMG studies suggesting brachial neuritis. CONCLUSIONS: In the context of these observations, we discuss the question of an association between brachial neuritis and botulinum toxin treatment.

The conception of fashion products for children: reflections on safety parameters.

The purpose of this study is to reflect on safety requirements for children's clothing, based on the standardization proposed by the ABNT (Technical Standardization Brazilian Association). Bibliographic research and case studies were considered on writing this work. We also discuss the importance of adding other safety requirements to the current standardization, as well as the increasing of the actual age range specified by the ABNT, following the children's clothing safety standardizations in Portugal and the United States, also stated here.

Imaging methods used for children with hip dysplasia.

Ultrasound has been used to examine the infant hip for more than 20 years. The Thornbury model for assessing the clinical efficacy of a diagnostic imaging procedure has been used in this review to determine what has been achieved and what remains to be learned. To accomplish the effective and efficient treatment of patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip, orthopaedic, radiologic, and pediatric organizations must collaborate in writing and revising standards of care and guidelines for treatment as our knowledge base grows.

Focal dystonia after removal of a parietal meningioma.

A patient presented at the age of 50 years with a right-sided, writing-specific dystonia which settled without treatment. Ten years later she developed focal seizures affecting the right leg and occasionally spreading to the right arm. A left parietal meningioma was removed and 2 years later she developed dystonic movements of her right hand. Gliotic changes were seen on magnetic resonance imaging in the superficial left parietal lobe. Mechanisms involved in the generation of dystonia associated with cortical injury are discussed.

Sensory training as treatment for focal hand dystonia: a 1-year follow-up.

In a prior study, 10 patients with focal hand dystonia learned braille reading as sensory training for 8 weeks. Practice time was 30 to 60 minutes daily. They improved both their spatial acuity using the Grating Orientation Discrimination Task (GOT) and their dystonia using the Fahn scale. Three patients continued training for 1 year. Patients showed further improvement in the GOT, writing a standard paragraph, and self-rating scales. Sensory training lasting longer than 8 weeks may lead to continued improvement.

The relation between sense of audience and specific learning disabilities: An exploration.

The relationship between two college-able learning-disabled writers' unique social and cognitive profiles and the sense of audience in their written texts is explored. The first student demonstrated significant visual and organizational cognitive processing deficits. The second student had deficits in oral language comprehension and production. While the writing of both students was affected by their disabilities, our findings suggest that the quality of their audience awareness is indeed related to the nature of their specific learning disability profile.

Pure agraphia and Gerstmann's syndrome as a visuospatial-language dissociation: an experimental case study.

A right-handed man suffered a left parieto-occipital cerebral infarction, causing agraphia with Gerstmann's syndrome but without major aphasia, alexia, or apraxia. Oral spelling was superior to written spelling. Experiments were performed involving (1) analysis of errors in writing, (2) tasks of visual imagery, and (3) identifying letters drawn without leaving a visual trace. The results suggest that the agraphia and Gerstmann's syndrome are due to a dissociation of language skills and visuospatial skills caused by a dominant parieto-occipital lesion.
