Peripheral lymphocyte remodeling following sound-based anxiety intervention: prominent alterations in γδ T-cell subsets.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, closed school management has resulted in college students being more prone to anxiety. As a means of stress reduction, music therapy has been widely used as an adjunctive treatment for anxiety disorders and other psychotic disorders. Some studies have shown that music can influence the immune function, however, there is still a lack of comprehensive research on the effects of the increasingly sophisticated music therapy on the function of the immune system. A healthy immune system and a good mood are closely related; therefore, the purpose of this study

Characterisation of age and polarity at onset in bipolar disorder.

BACKGROUND: Studying phenotypic and genetic characteristics of age at onset (AAO) and polarity at onset (PAO) in bipolar disorder can provide new insights into disease pathology and facilitate the development of screening tools. AIMS: To examine the genetic architecture of AAO and PAO and their association with bipolar disorder disease characteristics. METHOD: Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) and polygenic score (PGS) analyses of AAO (n = 12 977) and PAO (n = 6773) were conducted in patients with bipolar disorder from 34 cohorts and a replication sample (n = 2237). Quality of life: a case-controlled long-term follow-up study, comparing young high-functioning adults with autism spectrum disorders with adults with other psychiatric disorders diagnosed in childhood.

BACKGROUND: Long term outcome in childhood autism spectrum disorders (ASD) was evaluated by studying quality of life (QoL) in young adulthood in comparison to the outcome of other child psychiatric disorders. METHODS: In this follow-up study, objective and subjective QoL of 169 high-functioning (IQ>70) adults with ASD (19 to 30 years) was contrasted with QoL data of age matched adults diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (N=85), disruptive behaviour disorders (N=83), and affective disorders (N=85) during childhood. The mean follow-up period of the ASD patients was 13.9 year

Medicine in the Penal System.

BACKGROUND: Infectious diseases, substance dependencies, and dental diseases are the most important health problems affecting incarcerated persons. In Germany, for example, prisoners are 48 to 69 times more likely to be infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) than the general population, and 7 to 12 times more likely to be infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The prevalence of mental illnesses is also markedly higher in the incarcerated than in the general population. METHODS: This review is based on pertinent publications retrieved by a selective search in two databases (P

The classical sub-types are: the syndromes of Capgras, Fregoli,Intermetamorphosis (mentioned in 3) and Subjective doubles. These syndromes occur in a clear sensorium and shouldbe differentiated from the banal transient misidentifications occurring in confusional states and in mania and from thenon-delusional misidentifications (e.g.

Binge Eating Disorder in Bipolar I Disorder: Prevalence, Childhood Trauma, and Clinical Correlates.

INTRODUCTION: Bipolar I disorder (BD-I) frequently co-occurs with eating disorders, particularly binge eating disorder (BED), which may adversely affect the clinical course, including recurrence risk and functional impairment. Research exploring the specific association between BED and childhood trauma (CT) in BD-I remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of BED among euthymic BD-I patients and to examine its associations with CT and clinical characteristics. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited 150 euthymic BD-I patients diagnosed according to DSM-5 criteria.

Brain connectivity changes occurring following cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis predict long-term recovery.

Little is known about the psychobiological mechanisms of cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) and which specific processes are key in predicting favourable long-term outcomes. Following theoretical models of psychosis, this proof-of-concept study investigated whether the long-term recovery path of CBTp completers can be predicted by the neural changes in threat-based social affective processing that occur during CBTp. We followed up 22 participants who had undergone a social affective processing task during functional magnetic resonance imaging along with self-report and clinicia

[The life as a caregiver of a person affected by Chorea Huntington: multiple case study].

UNLABELLED: Chorea Huntington is an autosomal dominantly inherited, neurodegenerative brain disorder that leads to involuntary hyperkinesia, psychotic symptoms and dementia. The illness not only changes the life of the person itself but also the world of the caregivers. The challenges in the care of a person which is affected by Chorea Huntington have an effect on the daily living as an assemblage of natural and social conditions. METHOD: a multiple case study was conducted. It included semi-structured interviews with three caregivers of people with Chorea Huntington in South Tyrol. The quali

Negative Symptom Inventory-Self-Report (NSI-SR): Initial development and validation.

Negative symptoms (i.e., anhedonia, avolition, asociality, blunted affect, alogia) are frequently observed in the schizophrenia-spectrum (SZ) and associated with functional disability. While semi-structured interviews of negative symptoms represent a gold-standard approach, they require specialized training and may be vulnerable to rater biases. Thus, brief self-report questionnaires measuring negative symptoms may be useful. Existing negative symptom questionnaires demonstrate that this approach may be promising in schizophrenia, but no measure has been devised for use across stages of psycho

A transdiagnostic examination of sex- and race and ethnicity-based mental health treatment disparities among publicly insured youth.

BACKGROUND: Low-income, publicly insured youth face numerous barriers to adequate mental health care, which may be compounded for those with multiple marginalized identities. However, no research has examined how identity and diagnosis may interact to shape the treatment experiences of under-resourced youth with psychiatric conditions. Applying an intersectional lens to treatment disparities is essential for developing targeted interventions to promote equitable care. METHODS: Analyses included youth ages 7-18 with eating disorders (EDs; n = 3,311), mood/anxiety disorders (n = 3,219), or psyc

Essential data dimensions for prospective international data collection in older age bipolar disorder (OABD): Recommendations from the GAGE-BD group.

BACKGROUND: By 2030, over 50% of individuals living with bipolar disorder (BD) are expected to be aged ≥50 years. However, older age bipolar disorder (OABD) remains understudied. There are limited large-scale prospectively collected data organized in key dimensions capable of addressing several fundamental questions about BD affecting this subgroup of patients. METHODS: We developed initial recommendations for the essential dimensions for OABD data collection, based on (1) a systematic review of measures used in OABD studies, (2) a Delphi consensus of international OABD experts, (3) experienc

Association of childhood trauma with cognitive domains in adult patients with mental disorders and in non-clinical populations: a systematic review.

Although the association between cognitive performances and the onset of psychiatric disorders has been widely investigated, limited research on the role of childhood trauma or early life stress (CT/ELS), and whether this role differs between clinical and non-clinical cohorts is available. This systematic review aims at filling this gap, testing whether the occurrence of CT/ELS and its subtypes are associated with cognitive domains (general cognitive ability, executive functions, working memory, attention, processing speed, verbal/visual memory) in patients with psychiatric disorders and in no

However, increasing reports indicate that some MECP2 mutations may also present various neuropsychiatric phenotypes, including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, depression, cocaine addiction, and schizophrenia in both males and females, suggesting varied clinical expressivity in some MECP2 mutations. Most of the MECP2 mutations are private de novo mutations. To understand whether MECP2 mutations a
