Henoch-Schonlein purpura is a multisystem vasculitis that primarily affects children. Characteristic symptoms include purpura of the lower extremities and buttocks, abdominal pain, arthralgias, and hematuria. Gastrointestinal bleeding occurs in approximately 50% of children and, although often self-limiting, can be significant. Wireless capsule endoscopy has been found to be safe and effective for children over 10 years of age. We report a case of chronic meningitis due to capsule-deficient Cryptococcus neoformans which could not be diagnosed by routine morphological and immunological cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination. BACKGROUND: Capsule endoscopy relies on an intact swallowing mechanism and unimpeded passage of the capsule through the pylorus. A technique is described for endoscopic delivery of the capsule in patients with dysphagia, anatomical abnormality, or gastroparesis.
METHODS: EGD is performed with concomitant placement of an overtube. A foreign body net retrieval device is passed through the endoscope and used to grasp the activated capsule in the net. The endoscope then is advanced through the overtube, and the capsule is released in the duodenum.

Wireless capsule endoscopy is a new diagnostic technique used especially for investigating the entire small bowel. Recent studies have demonstrated its superior ability to detect and evaluate small bowel lesions compared to other radiological examinations. Performing video capsule endoscopy is regarded as contraindicated when an intestinal occlusion is documented. We present a case of hidden intestinal bleeding which underwent wireless capsule endoscopy and was treated successfully despite documented ileal stenosis.

This study uses immunofluorescent analysis to find out in histologic corneal sections a possible rejection reaction in anterior lens capsule allotransplantation for chronic corneal ulcers. The experiment included control group of rabbit corneas with repeat injury to epithelium and anterior stroma as well as surgically treated group. OBJECTIVE: To observe the protective effect of ganfukang capsule on hepatocytes of rats with experimental hepatic fibrosis rat.
METHOD: SD rat model of liver fibrosis was induced by CCl4. The effect of ganfukang capsule on liver function, histological change and ultrastructural were examined.
RESULTS: Liver function, histological change and ultrastructural were significantly improved. The degree of steatosis was significantly decreased.
CONCLUSION: Ganfukang capsule might protect hepatocytes, mitochondria from the injury induced by CCl4 and improve liver function.

OBJECTIVE: To assess outcomes and complications of primary trabeculectomies in fellow eyes in a large group of patients. The assumption was that first and fellow eyes undergoing fistulizing surgical procedures behave similarly in the postoperative period.
DESIGN: Retrospective nonrandomized comparative trial (paired eye study).
PARTICIPANTS: Over a 4-year period, 566 consecutive patients underwent primary trabeculectomy, all without antifibrotic agents. One hundred thirty-eight of these patients underwent bilateral surgery.
